Planning routes to '17 ECR

Hi Everyone,

I am planning my routes to the ECR with the help of Rand McNally truckers atlas. I remembered what happened last year without the help of a truckers atlas. I don't want that to happen again. That story makes for a good camp fire story. These are the routes that I have come up with. I will be coming from the north down Rt. 75 south. I plan to use Rt.63 west to Rt.27 south to Rt.329 south to Rt.62 west and finally to Rt.127 south to Crossville. All the routes come up orange color on the map. Does anyone see a problem with this plan ? Anyone have any other routes that could work ?

Looking for ideas,
Al

We are planning on running I-40 across, leaving from Bullhead City. Hopefully get on the road by the 19th at the latest. Would be fun to run along with somebody if anyone else it taking that route

Hi Carl,

I was hoping that my planned route could safe me some time. If I follow my GPS, it will put me on a route or too with 2 lane roads. I always wonder how the GPS comes up with this route. If you use Google maps, it is also interesting seeing what routes it puts you on. I know what route I never want to go onto again. Kevin knows the same route I am talking about.

Al, I'm sure you can probably do that route.  It should be pretty scenic too.  If you're looking for the fastest/easiest route without going through Knoxville, get off I-75 at TN-61 (exit 322), and follow it as it becomes TN-95, and TN-58.  There are a few traffic lights in Clinton and Oak Ridge, but it's basically all good 4-lane road, with very little in the way of grades (certainly less than I-75/40).  If you're needing to stock the refrigerator before settling in, you go right past a nice Kroger Marketplace that's fairly easy to get in and out of.  That route brings you back to I-40 at mile 356, leaving 34 miles to the exit for Deer Run.

FYI--your lights and harness are en route.  I'll send you tracking info via e-mail.

Hi David,

I will check out that route.

Thanks for the heads-up about the lights and wire harness.

Al,

Don't be tempted to exit I-75 at Williamstown and take KY92/US27.  Did that once.......... Great route on a motorcycle, not so much w/ HDT.

Hi Rick,

Thanks for the heads up about that route. I think I am going to follow Nuke-E route. Are you planning to go to the ECR ?

I'll be coming across 70 from KC and probably headed down on 57, 24 and then 40.

Would be interested to know what the bad route was?

Any comments on my route, and my question of the bad route?

Thanks in advance.

Rocky,

I believe that is the way Steve Dixon went to the National from East TN.  It should be fine.

Nothing wrong with that route, other than traffic in St. Louis and Nashville--I've done it more times than I can count.  Kentucky Dam Lake State Park is a nice spot to stop right along the way near Paducah, as is the Casino Queen in St. Louis.

Well, we don't have a reservation, and we don't know if Mother Nature will play nice so I can get my planting done.  IF we get the little seeds poked in the dirt, and IF we get lucky enough to slide into a cancelled spot, we'll be there.  I've been looking at another campground down the road, just in case.

FYI--there's construction just east of Gordonsville, TN that has been causing significant delays. Even on a Sunday afternoon, I killed almost an hour getting through.  There aren't really any good detour routes, so make the pit stop at one of the truck stops in Goodlettsville, and soldier on through.

Sure thing!  Both Dave and Sondra and Dan and Darlene had delays yesterday, but less than a half hour.  Just wanted to make sure no one cut it too close trying to catch Kim in the office.

I'm sure she has arrangements for after-hours arrivals--worst case, get a hold of someone already here (like me) and we can come up to the front to open the gate for you.
