travelinbob Posted November 19, 2016 Report Posted November 19, 2016 I've been thinking about changing our address to CA ? Currently we pay around $250 to register our trailer, truck and Jeep. Our health ins is with BC/BS and does not cost us much as its a Medicare Advantage HMO. Does anyone have an idea of how much more it would cost for us to do want I'm considering ? 2006 Elite Suite 36TK32001 F-550 Starhaulerwww.mytripjournal.com/elitesuitestravelsIN GOD WE TRUST

CrazyCooter Posted November 19, 2016 Report Posted November 19, 2016 It's going to be at least double that for you truck alone. Once you get over 8,000lb unladen, you are considered a tractor and pay according to your cross combined weight. Here is the table:https://www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/wcm/connect/4ee70a0f-2e2c-4382-8d83-37e7deea09ae/reg4008.pdf?MOD=AJPERES 1999 Peterbilt 385 C12 430/1650 13spd 2006 Dodge 3500 DRW 4x4 2010 Hitchhiker Champagne 36 LKRSB
travelinbob Posted November 23, 2016 Author Report Posted November 23, 2016 When I checked it out the registration for the truck alone was 3x what it is in NM. I guess we will just make trips there for our Doctor visits twice a year. Did not really want to do that but a few days spring and fall will be OK. 2006 Elite Suite 36TK32001 F-550 Starhaulerwww.mytripjournal.com/elitesuitestravelsIN GOD WE TRUST

Kirk W Posted November 23, 2016 Report Posted November 23, 2016 I'd take Barb's suggestion. What if you should need to see your doctor on short notice? I'm sure that there are doctors in NM too and they may even be better ones. Good travelin !...............KirkFull-time 11+ years...... Now seasonal travelers.Kirk & Pam's Great RV Adventure

bigjim Posted November 24, 2016 Report Posted November 24, 2016 Sometimes, it's a problem finding a Dr who excepts new patients with Medicare. Newt Very true. Even a Dr. you have seen before but haven't seen on regular basis can then classify you as a new patient and that they are not taking any new Medicare patients. This happened to me with 2 different Dr's. in New Mexico. They were both Dermatologist and I wasn't in their area or needing to see them every year at that time.
travelinbob Posted November 24, 2016 Author Report Posted November 24, 2016 As I originally posted we already have NM doctors. I was considering making CA our home address. We can use Urgent Care or Emergency Rooms but with a Medicare Advantage HMO we are locked into our regular NM doctors. This is for my wife, I use the VA and am considered a Traveling Vet and can use any VA. I also have the HMO but never use it. It looks like changing our "home" to CA is out of the question. I didn't completely check it out but estimate it would cost us way over $1000 a year to change to CA. 2006 Elite Suite 36TK32001 F-550 Starhaulerwww.mytripjournal.com/elitesuitestravelsIN GOD WE TRUST
bigjim Posted November 25, 2016 Report Posted November 25, 2016 Are you seen at the Albq. VA? If so who is your primary if you don't mind me asking?
travelinbob Posted November 25, 2016 Author Report Posted November 25, 2016 Jim, yes Albuquerque and Linszky is primary. I also have another dr in a clinic in Palm Desert, Ca where we spend the winters. Although all the primary does is check blood work 2X a year, updates your scripts and make referrals to specialists. 2006 Elite Suite 36TK32001 F-550 Starhaulerwww.mytripjournal.com/elitesuitestravelsIN GOD WE TRUST
