Kiltedpig
Is there another warranty/ESP plan that covers older motorhomes? The thought of a diesel problem keeps me from looking at older diesels without the ability to get an ESP.
Ray,IN
Our GS extended service plan is in force now @ 18 yrs old MH. The agent said we could renew next April. It is expensive but I don't know of any other ESP that covers a 2000 model. Haven't called wholesale warranty yet. 2000 Winnebago Ultimate Freedom USQ40JD, ISC 8.3 Cummins 350, Spartan MM Chassis. Biker56
If you would put that same $$$$ in a savings account. After paying for 18 years you probably would have more in savings then what you paid to the ESP CO. Especially if you got a high deductible. If you would put that same $$$$ in a savings account. After paying for 18 years you probably would have more in savings then what you paid to the ESP CO. But what if he bought the RV at year 16? No insurance should be purchased expecting to save money. It is there to protect you from financial disaster if the very worst should happen. Do you buy home owner's insurance? If you had saved all of those premiums for the past 20 ~ 30 years, you could pay for a new house! Good travelin !...............KirkFull-time 11+ years...... Biker56
Is my math wrong or is a 2000 model RV not just reaching year 17? A 2000 could have been built in 1999 My 1999 was built September 1998 Do you buy home owner's insurance? If you had saved all of those premiums for the past 20 ~ 30 years, you could pay for a new house! I Full Time and do pay out close to $200 a month to cover my MH & Toad vehicle insurance. Only time I ever paid for homeowners insurance was from 1990 to 1999 and then it was from $300 to $350 a year. Before that I rented and didn't carry any household insurance. I couldn't buy much of a home on less then $3,500 I didn't really lose all that $3,500 as I sold the house for 20K more then I bought it for. Even after paying taxes on it for 10 years I still came out ahead some. Now the MH is different and it has depreciated almost as much as the house sold for. Years ago I checked with GS for ESP and they wanted almost 2K a year for my MH. I turned them down and a month later they called back and said they could let me have it for 1K a year with $500 deductible for every claim. I turned that down also. I checked my MH repair records I have keep on a spreadsheet since 2002. There has only been 3 times that any repair chassis or house cost me more then a $500 deductible would have. A jack motor and 2 AC's I replaced for a total of $1,047 more then a $500 deductible. But both AC's replaced were with bigger BTU units one even a heat Pump that the ESP probably wouldn't have gone for. They were many other repairs over the years but almost all done with my labor and only parts cost of way under $500. I am way ahead of never buying extended warranty for vehicles, TV's, computers etc. But nothing is wrong if your experience has been different then mine. I also have been buying Supplemental F health insurance since I got on Medicare. On that Insurance payments I am ahead of them since a 2011 operation, 2012 chemo, Radiation treatments and another operation. But they are slowly catching up. And that is a good thing for me. OH!! Tomorrow I have another ultrasound to check if I don't need another operation to get ahead of them again. If it is good then another 6 months until the next one plus a CT. Kiltedpig
The problem as I see it is that a diesel repair can destroy a bank account and when on a fixed retirement budget that can be devastating. Getting an ESP for the little things or even things like refrigerator etc. really is not the problem as they can be handled without a devastating event to the bank account, it's the large things like the engine or other large ticket items that worry me with buying an older MH. I have heard of diesel repairs that run over $20,000. Am I just paranoid?

GS insures out to 18 years, We did buy the MH at 13 years old. It had been parked in a barn for 6 years previously, thus the ESP purchases. Some people self-insure, that's their business plan, mine is to purchase an ESP as long as I'm eligible; who's right? It doesn't matter as long as we're content with our decision. Edit; Camping World used to insure to 18 years, but reduced that to 7 last year. That was our initial ESP, but couldn't renew after the reduction of yrs. 2000 Winnebago Ultimate Freedom USQ40JD, ISC 8.3 Cummins 350, Spartan MM Chassis.
