Striper
This is our plan also. Definitely want to see our friends that we haven't seen in a while and meet some new members. It is a shame Joe will not be here because Jeri will. Miss everybody! J&J Well you could show up a bit earlier, like in November. Or meet me in Vegas in mid December. I'll miss seeing everyone also. steved44
Well, we made it as far as Grand Junction yesterday. Beautiful drive West on I-70 and the aspens are at their peak. I had to throw water on Carol's camera to cool it off. When we descended one of the hills, I started hearing a different exhaust sound, and after stopping at a rest stop looked under and found the exhaust pipe (crossover pipe) had come unhooked. Must have been the use of the jake brake that caused it, however it has never done that before. Hmmmm Anyway we found a place that would work on it (Scotty's muffler) and were looking for a campground, when we found an Elks club with RV parking just 2 blocks from the muffler shop. What luck. 50A electric only, but location, location, location. It doesn't look like anything is broken, just the pipe came apart at the joint, so maybe it won't be too expensive to fix. We were a little worried yesterday because a storm was supposed to hit the mountains, so we got an early start to try and beat it. We saw a little snow up on Vail pass, and it was spitting snow as we were driving through there, but we had come down a couple of thousand feet before we hit the heavy rain. I'll bet they got some snow behind us, but all we got was rain. Now to get coffee brewing so I can be awake enough to get to the muffler shop. sandsys
Also, last year we ended up with a "garage sale" table. It was actually kind of fun. We'll put up a table to deposit all of the items you've been carrying around on that you no longer want. Surely someone will want them but let's make folks work for them. Ideas are in the making so come prepared with donations to our garage sale. Another thought for each person is to bring a swap exchange item that most folks might want. No limit set. This will be a different table and we'll have an event for it. You want me to pack things I don't want? IYQ
Tonight was LEO night (Lets Eat Out night) 11 of us went to the Iron Skillet at the Petro truck stop. We had a ball. I finally got my laundry done this morning. The laundry basket was so full I couldn't get the wardrobe door open. Now I can procrastinate for another month . steved44
Yes, Jeri, LaPosa south is good for us too. We do like the availability of the dump and water fill right there. Now we did also stay north at Plomosa road, and liked that, although we had to drive back to Q to dump and fill. Whatever, all we want to do is see everyone!! And try to keep IYQ from slurping up all the stray cranberry juice. I know, that's a full time job, and we don't want no full time jobs. So he might be able to sneak a little. Sigh! Circle the wagons and we'll be there!!! steved44
Well, the muffler shop was a bust. After we got over there they decided they had too many jobs and couldn't get us in. We then called around and found a freightliner shop (Trans Western), that said "come on over we'll fix you up". We went over there and they sure did. A couple of clamps and a bracket (which they had to wait 30 min for) was all it took and they charged me $84. According to their sign they charged 1 hour minimum and their rate was $135, so I was pleased to get out for $84 including two parts. Nice shop and some good techs, so if you ever have trouble in Grand Junction, check them out. Because they got on the job fast, we managed to get out of GJ about 1:00 and arrived in Moab about 4. Nice scenery and great weather with 65 degrees for the high. We are now in a campsite for a month about 2 miles south of town, FHUs' for $375, so we'll be exploring this area for a while. Now I've got to find Dave & Nancy, they are hiding around here somewhere..... IYQ
a slow day today. I went to the bank early this morning to deposit a couple dividend checks then came back to the Ranch and took a STEVE. After Happy hour I took two of the cowgirls to the "Forget About it" Pizza place out on NM 26. They have really thin crust NY style pizza. Boy is it good. Now I have a box of left over pizza for breakfast. I'll bet it DON'T make past 10 PM tonight. rmcf308
While in Moab, you need to drive up the Potash Road, almost straight across from the entrance to Arches NP. Need 4wd or high clearance. Road is very scenic and takes you out in Canyon Lands NP near Dead Horse Point. Kinda interesting near the top. Find Dave and Nancy and let them go with you. You also need to go eat breakfast at Red Cliffs Lodge, about 10 miles north of MOAB. Breakfast buffet for about $10.00 and it is very good. Supper is great also. They also have a John Wayne and movie musem at the lodge, free. A lot of movie have been filmed in the area and they have a lot of info on the movies. Well, the muffler shop was a bust. dlcarsonak
Glyn and I are visiting some of our grandchildren while he is adding a storage box to his truck. It will be nice to keep our bikes and grill under cover along with a stash of firewood. He is in Nashville while I am in Toledo, kind of a mini vacation for us both. We will be staying at Plamosa Road a bit before and after Big Tent but will be with the Driving School bunch wherever they land during that time. We will keep up to date so we know where to find that nightly campfire and join in when possible. IYQ
Well I ordered a telescope today it should get here about Saturday. There is too much light pollution here to do any good viewing but it should be very good at the slabs. I printed the manual for it so I can get familiar with it while waiting. Now the next trick is to find a place to store it where it wont get knocked out of alignment. Now I have to start dreaming up what toy I'm going to buy next. Maybe a new Mazeratti. Shadowtracks
tdhomestead, steve44, and shadowtracks all had a planning meeting at OK RV Park in Moab yesterday, followed by the official meeting at the Moab Brewery Both meetings were sucessful but meeting minutes have been classified, pending review by the flux capacitor homologation committee. steved44
And a great couple of meetings they were, and highly classified I might add. It was great to finally meet Tom and Diane, and to catch up with Dave & Nancy again. The six of us had fun telling stories during the happy hour that Tom & Diane hosted at their rig. We then went to the Moab Brewery for dinner and continued the meeting there. What a neat lifestyle this is being able to connect with so many fine people. They are all leaving Moab tomorrow, but I left a bottle of "cranberry juice" stashed in their rig, so they are going to have to come back here, in a week (just want to make sure it's properly aged) and polish it off. Hmmmm they'd better come back Hmmmmm they will won't they?? IYQ
Because I didn't do any thing else today I'll homologate the decisions of the homologation committee. IYQ
It doesn't seem possible but I've been here a month all ready. Time sure does fly or maybe Shadowtracks or Steve have been fooling around with that Phase Capacitor again. I went into town today and got my ears lowered. The dog catcher had been eying me for the past couple of weeks. After I got civilized looking, I drove out to the Savoy for lunch. They must not have recognized me because it took 20 minutes just to get a menu. The rest of the day I sat around my rid designing new patterns to twiddle my thumbs in.
