  1. Just thinking "outside the box" I looked up the definition (s) of dwelling: An RV can be considered a "shelter" or "place of habitation". No wonder lawyers have job security; when it comes to the use of the English language there are many terms that can represent many things. Further complicating definitions is the rapid pace of new ideas and options for housing that appear every day changing the paradigm for how we live. Merriam-Webster : Definition of dwelling : a shelter (such as a house) in which people live Dictionary.com : noun: dwelling; plural noun: dwellings; noun: dwelling place; plural noun: dwelling places a house, apartment, or other place of residence. "the proposed dwelling is out of keeping with those nearby" synonyms: residence, place of residence, place of habitation, home, house, accommodation, lodging place, billet; lodgings, quarters, rooms; informalplace, pad; informaldigs; formaldwelling place, dwelling house, abode, domicile, habitation "she had been invited to his dwelling"
  2. That is the problem. The overreaction by well intending law makers and the medical community to the 2016 recommendations. While traveling in Oregon 2 years ago we were considering settling there long term. It took 6 weeks to get into the dr (Family practitioner and not a specialist) as a new patient then the DR said I would highly recommend you look elsewhere as Oregon's interpretation of the CDC guidelines was to limit pain meds to 2 weeks after surgery. She would help us during our visit but there would be no long term Scheduled pain meds issued. We appreciated the candor and glad to get the advice before we spent the time and incurred the cost of settling there. Many people have had success with CBD oil as a substitute for opioids but big pharma is not rushing to supports its competitor. Also because of its schedule substance status long term studies are not available on the effectiveness, the appropriate doses or the most beneficial means to administer CBD. With the rapid advancements in technology and medicine our lawmakers haven't been able or made the effort to keep up with patients needs.
  3. Traveling out of your home state and still trying to get meds is just part of the problem. Hopefully medical care in the future will not be hampered by state lines. "The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, in new guidance for opioid prescribing, said many physicians were guilty of a "misapplication" of 2016 guidelines that clamped down on the use of opioids. The new guidelines, published in the New England Journal of Medicine, was the latest federal acknowledgement that many physicians' responses to the opioid crisis went too far." Source: https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/health/2019/04/24/opioid-pain-pills-crackdown-doctors-prescriptions-cdc-fda/3562373002/ IMHO one size all medical care does not work each individual is different and that is between you and your Dr. Dr's began reducing doses or quit prescribing necessary pain meds altogether in 2016. Insurance companies started acting as dr's monitoring what doses and particularly the frequency patients could receive their meds. Many patients were left without Pain Management Drs to assist them and the few that stayed in the field are overwhelmed with patients and turning legitimate patients away. Most Family Practitioners won't prescribe pain meds because of the extra bureaucracy involved to handle them and for fear of legal repercussions. " Prescription opioids can be used to treat moderate-to-severe pain and are often prescribed following surgery or injury. Opioids also are used to treat chronic pain, such as in people with terminal illness (like cancer) or nonterminal pain conditions (like certain long-term back problems) and loss of limbs." "It takes 11-14 years to become a doctor in the United States, including earning a bachelor's degree, attending 4 years of medical school, and completing a 3- to 7-year residency program after medical school. After residency, doctors may apply for a state license to practice medicine" Yes there has been abuse of opioids on both sides, patients and doctors, but don't penalize the majority for the abuse of a few.
  4. I know several fulltime RV'ers that have had to curtail many travel plans because of the challenges in getting their RX's refilled. I hope these two news items will be of assistance or at least reassuring that the medical community is hearing from patients that have had success with opoids for many years and and are now being punished by the CDC's over-correcting answer to the opioid epidemic. I saw this news clip yesterday: Did the government overcorrect on the opioid epidemic? Jun. 26, 2019 - 4:32 - CDC guidelines have led to doctors cutting back on painkiller subscriptions, leaving patients fighting to get the medication they need. https://video.foxnews.com/v/6052464437001/#sp=show-clips In Googling the topic I found this article from April 2019: https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/health/2019/04/24/opioid-pain-pills-crackdown-doctors-prescriptions-cdc-fda/3562373002/
  5. We like to play hand and foot and as many of you know it can get breezy outside. I looked up magnetic cards and they were $20+ a deck so I looked for alternatives as we play with either 5 or 7 decks. I found these metal pegboard racks and magnets on Amazon. The racks come in all sorts of colors: yellow, red, green, orange, blue, silver. I set the cards up on my patio this afternoon to try them out and so far so good. I just bought 2 wall pegboards as we usually play a 4some but if you want 6 you will need another pegboard. (1) Skilled Crafter Craft Magnets 1 inch. 25mm/4mm Ferrite Disc Magnet. 100 Pieces for Best Value. Strong Ceramic Grade 5 Strength. Ideal for Fridge, Whiteboard, Industrial, Scientific & Home (2) Wall Control Narrow Pegboard Rack 8in x 32in Black Metal Pegboard Runner Tool Board
  6. We found this place 2 years ago. https://juniperridgeresort.com/home/about-us-2/. Easy access, cool summers and lots to do in the area. They are deeded lots (most are 40 x 60 a few are larger) so you rent directly from the owner https://www.juniperridgerealestate.com/rental/ White Mountain Lake is 1/2 mile from the entrance of the park. 8. Over the years we have looked into various membership parks. They never seemed to be where we wanted to go at the time or since and we didn't want to feel obligated to go someplace just to get our "money's worth". Also we didn't want to be confined to time limits in a park. Many people do travel the membership park routes and find savings. Where do you want to travel? If those destinations are in one of the catalogs of membership parks your looking into choose that one. Also begin with the end in mind: can you resell it if you no longer want it or use it? Do you still have to keep paying the annual fees? How will it affect your credit if you can't sell and stop paying? What happens if your home park bows out of the system? We know of a couple in Arizona and Nevada. The best advice we received when we first hit the road was not to obligate ourselves to any membership campground system until we had been on the road at least a full year. It will take you that long to get out of vacation mode and begin to define your own traveling style. And don't forget the Escapee Club discount park system: https://www.escapees.com/benefits/rv-parking/discount-park-directory/ Safe Travels,
  9. Thank you for the suggestions. We have stayed in Casa Grande before and enjoy the area. Unfortunately this stay has come and gone and our story ending is not a positive one. I do hope to take the opportunity to prevent others for experiencing the same inconvenience and researching the offsite owners of the property to let them know of our experience as they may not be aware that their business is not currently being conducted as claimed on their website. I believe all business owners can run their business as they see fit but accurate and transparent disclosure of their generally accepted practices is something their customers/clients deserve. I would like a to change the end of our story with Casa Grande RV Resort and Cottages to a positive one.
  10. We chose to stay at Casa Grande RV Resort as it was convenient to meet up with friends and we both had stayed in the RV section in the past. I have been Googling reviews on the park and found this recent one that seems to indicate a negative trend at the park: https://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g31182-d9862980-Reviews-Casa_Grande_RV_Resort_Cottages-Casa_Grande_Arizona.html
  11. Sadly I think you are right. Many places we have stayed recently there were a lot more conversations about inconsiderate dog owners. I wish I had an answer? Posting signs, disclosing at check in and even handing out a dog treat and poo bag at check in hasn't had much of effect. We have taken several short trips this past year staying in hotels and VRBO's instead of our RV and more are accepting pets but sadly even in their pet areas people don't seem to scoop even when the poop is right next to a fully supplied waste station:(.
  12. Thank you for asking, I just checked online and do not see the RV Park listed https://www.escapees.com/benefits/rv-parking/discount-park-directory/maps/ but as you can see by the screen shot attached the park is still listing it as an option on their online reservation form. I just checked http://www.campgroundreviews.com/regions/arizona/casa-grande/casa-grande-rv-resort-3370 and it appears that they are trying to discourage pets in the park altogether as a recent RVer posted they are now charging $3.00 a day for dogs.
  13. FYI, We stayed at Casa Grande RV Resort and Cottages in Casa Grande, AZ earlier this month and they no longer accept the Escapees Discount. Though when we made our reservations online 2 weeks prior my receipt listed the discount? I checked their website https://casagrandervresort.com/ today they still offer the discount when registering online so I don't know when they will be updating their website. They do offer various other discounts that may apply to many reading here. Also not listed on the website if you have someone visiting you and they want to rent a cottage during their visit, dogs our welcome but they do not offer linens in the cottage rented to dog owners. That also is not disclosed on their website. I am hoping they were just having a bad day after a long winter visitor season.
  14. I went to Best Buy and they have a free 15 minute "nerd session", learn something new every day. They weren't able to help me and said since I didn't have extended warranty from Best Buy they couldn't help but to try Amazon. Don't know why my Kindle only had a 90 days and not 1 year as posted on the website but I got on their customer service chat and retried the reboot several times. Amazon chat confirmed I do have a defective unit but they wouldn't replace it but did give me several discounts after my extensive questioning. I hadn't bought the accident insurance and don't usually but they said for $19 for 2 years if my next one is defective, or up to 3 defective units in 2 years, I would get a new one free of charge. The chat session was very informative so not a total loss.
  15. Thank you for the Amazon website help link, I will give it a try. FYI: My attempt to let the battery run out and recharge didn't help
  16. I bought a Kindle in November after getting good advice from several readers here. DH loves it for reading. Unfortunately it froze this am? I Googled "Kindle Freezing Up" and found this info https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=200829000 I tried turning it off and on and holding for 40 seconds. I thought about unplugging the battery and found a video for that but I don't have the tool to open the case. So far I am not able to reset as I can't get to a screen to give me options. Right now I am leaving it on and waiting for the battery to run out then recharge it and see if it will work. I would appreciate any suggestions. Thank you.
  17. I saw this on another RV forum. They took a piece of wood and covered with with fabric to prevent scratching the frig doors. The horseshoe shape easily slides in and out of the door handles.
  18. One of my vices since retiring is HGTV and cooking shows. A couple years ago I saw 2 ingredient recipes on Rachel Ray. I still make her oatmeal banana cookies, they are so easy I occasionally add 2 more ingredients: chopped walnuts and raisins. https://www.rachaelrayshow.com/celebs/17221_Sunny_Anderson_New_2_Ingredient_Recipes https://www.rachaelrayshow.com/recipe/17846_Sunny_Anderson_2_Ingredient_Chicken https://www.rachaelrayshow.com/recipe/17845_Sunny_Anderson_2_Ingredient_Zucchini https://www.rachaelrayshow.com/recipe/17847_Sunny_Anderson_2_Ingredient_Potatoes https://www.rachaelrayshow.com/recipe/17848_Sunny_Anderson_Peanut_Butter_Oats_Granola_Cookies Enjoy....
  19. A generic version of damp rid is available at Dollar Tree https://www.dollartree.com/bulk/Moisture--Absorber for a $1.00 per container. I buy them by the case when I can find them and use them in my front load washing machine and dishwasher dish drawer. They work great to keep it dry and odor free. In especially humid areas I put one in the water closet and shower stall to keep them fresh. They may help with your clothing but you just need to make sure they stay upright so the water collected doesn't spill on your clothes.
  20. We have been fulltiming since 2001. We don't have a built in bbq and I didn't like the mess of carrying one so I have a large cast iron skillet to do burgers, steaks, chops etc. and a teflon spatter lid. During the summer I use a crock pot vs the oven to prevent heating up the rv. We also eat out a lot. We have gotten in the habit if eating our main meal mid day instead of having a big dinner. We have short travel days and like to get set up in a park before the crowds arrive and enjoy the early bird specials in local restaurants. Most people know "your not from around here are you" and strike up interesting conversations. When we first started on the road we bought one of the first editions of Roadfood USA by Jane and Michael Stern now a website https://roadfood.com/ and used some of the suggestions for our destinations to eat across the USA and would look for suggestions in the different towns we visited along the way. They specialize in Mom and Pop and one of a kind eateries not chain restaurants.
  21. We replaced our rv mattress 10 years ago with a regular mattress that was made to fit our RV bed. It was only $100 to make it to our measurements. Unfortunately the store we bought it at no longer does customer orders. I have heard pros and cons about sleep number and memory foam mattresses. Price is a consideration also. We bought a 3" memory foam topper at Costco for our mattress a couple of years ago a love it. When researching the toppers I read the key is density measure: "Select the density of your memory foam. Density refers to the weight of one cubic foot of memory foam; this is proportionate to the level of “memory” your topper will have. Higher density memory foam mattress toppers conform better to body weight, provide stronger support, respond to body temperature more efficiently and are more durable than the less dense models. Most people find that a memory foam mattress topper with a density of 3 pounds suits their needs perfectly, although those with body and joint pain may want a density of 4 pounds or more." Source We are getting ready to replace our mattress again and though haven't made up our mind which way to go did find RV sized mattresses for competitive prices on Overstock.com
  22. Thanks for the washing machine tip, I looked up RV anti freeze and found this product on Walmarts website, seems pretty cost effective.
  23. I hadn't thought about the can goods, will add that to my list. Thank you for the info.
  24. We have never had to "winterize" an RV in our 30+ years of RVing as the weather was moderate where we lived and when we retired full-timed following the sun. This winter we will be leaving it in the mountains. The historical temperatures for the area have average lows in the 20's from late November thru March. It is in an RV park that does have several year round residents and a neighbor offered to keep an eye on it but we want to prepare it so he won't have anything to do. I have reviewed the owners manual and also found this YouTube How To Winterize and RV or Camper with Antifreeze. Will disconnecting the batteries be sufficient? We have a disconnect switch that we have used in the past when we have left the rig unattended for a week or so but this will be for a couple of months. Slides in our out? How to keep mice, squirrels and the like from getting in? ie moth balls in storage compartments? We will have access to power and wondering whether or not to leave a ceramic heater (ie a Vornado brand with Auto shut off and tip over shut off features) on low inside? Cupboard doors opened or closed? How do you winterize a washing machine, residential frig ice maker or dishwasher? Any suggestions, tips or tricks appreciated. Thanks.
  25. We had a Whirlpool Compact Washer and a GE Compact Dryer installed in our fiver in 2004 and both are still going strong. Love them. You can fit more than you think but as a front load washer you just have to make sure the load is balanced with like sized clothing. One thing to consider when installing a washer and dryer is to measure the RV entry door width and if the units are in the bedroom and you have a hallway to get to it measure that too. To prevent mildew odors in the rig from water left in the washing machine after a wash I use The Home Store Moisture Eliminators, 9.8 oz. They also work great in dishwasher drawers.
