  1. I am looking for suggestions (preferably from first-hand experience!) from those who have added some kind of floor covering in their toy hauler garage. Our rig has 12.5 box and our RZR goes in the back while traveling, but it serves primarily as my office while parked. We also use the entrance more often than our front door, so it gets a fair amount of traffic. I'm looking for ways to make the space more homey while I'm in here 40+ hours a week. I don't want a traditional outdoor mat OR a regular carpet. I want something easy to roll up when the machine is loaded, easy to clean, and aesthetically pleasing. My fiance was thinking about something like what goes onto boat flooring, and also whatever ATC uses in their units. Anyone got any good suggestions? Much appreciated!!
  2. Our goal once we get settled into our rig and get situated, is to make our way out west and boondock as much as we are able. We've been researching laws and rules in different areas...my folks live in AZ so we'll be spending a lot of time out there and the rules are fairly lenient (at least in their area). We frequently see people on sxs on main roads (i've seen some on main roads I'd never be comfortable driving ours on, but hey, to each his own ). Thanks for the input!
  3. Yes, and that aligns with what I assumed, as well. Hoping we don't find that restriction in too many places, as it would be a real drag to have to keep it loaded and lose half our living space. thanks!!
  4. I figured as much...in our area (New England) it's not allowed at most campgrounds unless we're way north. thanks for the feedback!
  5. We are making the plunge into full-time living at the end of April. We plan on bringing our Polaris RZR with us and are excited to seek out new riding areas wherever we go. We do not have a set itinerary at the moment. Once we close on our house, we'll be parking our rig on a family member's land while we get it situated, and decide where we want to travel first. We want to do a solid mix of boondocking & campgrounds. What I'm looking for is anyone's personal experience of traveling with a ATV/UTV and staying in campgrounds. We chose a toy hauler because we have a toy - obviously - but we also wanted one because of the versatility of the garage space. I will be working full time from the road and planned to utilize the garage as extra office/living space. How do campgrounds usually handle folks like us who have a toy that is not the typical golf cart or motorcycle? Of course, we'd do our research and find out the rules before booking, but I'm curious if anyone here has any personal experience with this, and how you've found campgrounds to be in the case of an ATV or UTV. If riding is prohibited that's a given...but I wonder how campgrounds handle visitors who unload their toys to park them for the duration of their stay. TIA!
  6. That's my preference as well; the issue is that our rig does not have a vent for one already, so we'd need to create one. Not an issue, but as I outlined below to the other person, vent location may be a little tricky in our rig.
  7. This may seem like a dumb question, but did your camper already have a vent? Ours does not, so we'd need to create one. Our W/D hookups are in the middle of the wall on the backside of our garage area, so not close to a sidewall, which makes vent placement a bit trickier.
  8. I am looking for recommendations on washers and dryers suitable for full-time RV living. We will be moving into our rig in about a month and a half, and while I'm not in a rush to get one before then, I have a very strong feeling it's going to be an addition we want rather quickly once we're in it. I am looking for pros/cons on the different options I've seen...stackable, combo, vented/ventless. As with everything in this lifestyle, there's lots of options and even more opinions, I am certain! For reference, we have a 40' fifth wheel toy hauler with a 12'6 garage which is where the hookups are. My initial thought is that a stackable option would be best, but I am open to suggestions based on experience. Thanks in advance!
  9. Any chance you would be willing to share the contacts you worked with? Would be great to talk with them.
  10. Curious if you ever got a clear answer on this specific question - i've been researching the same thing.
  11. I did not know that much about the history of the club - thats awesome! And that article is super helpful - thank you for sharing.
  12. I've been poking around the X-scapers site - i will check that article out! My husband does commercial glass installation and is part of a union. He's been working with his union rep to discuss how it would work for him - his situation is a little more tricky than mine but still doable (he's actually contacted many guys who are full-time RVers and the trickiest part is healthcare). His line of work has high demand right now, and for starting out, our travels will largely be dictated where he is able to go for work. It is amazing how the world has shifted to be more flexible. You're lucky to have retired so early - that likely wont be the case for us and many in our age bracket - which is mainly why we are deciding to do this now while we're young, healthy, and nothing really tying us down here.
  13. Wow - I woke up this morning to some excellent reading on my thread! I did not think I'd get so many responses, so thank you all very much! First and foremost, from an ethical standpoint, I would not feel right simply taking off (trial or otherwise) and not sharing the news with my manager. So, the discussion will definitely happen. I can see where the first replier was offering an option that others have taken, but I would not feel right taking that approach. And, as so many pointed out, payroll / HR would have to be notified and it would trickle down to my manager level eventually. As Kirk mentioned, I may be surprised to see others who've done it! I'd love to find out if anyone here works for my company and is full-time! 😃 Kirk, to address your suggestion of "testing" the plan - last summer I actually did do a 2.5 week trip in our current RV, where I worked almost the majority of the time and things worked fine. I have also traveled to visit family across the country a few times and been able to work 'remote' and my manager had no issues with it. At this point, we are full-steam ahead with our plan to do this, so I guess I'm taking a slight leap of faith having waited to talk to work but I do not have concerns that they would have that large of an issue over it. We are trying to maximize on a very profitable seller's housing market in our area, so moving quickly at this point is necessary. I will say, I feel somewhat relieved that in terms of my research so far, I have been on a good track. I have read the Issue of Domicile article you linked, plus many others and while we have not finalized a decision, we're working on it. At the very least for when we start out, my sister offered her FL address as one for us to use; although, I'd prefer to just get something set up through Escapees and not place the burden on her for mail, etc. From what I have read so far, I can do all that ahead of time. Also, I am very familiar with Technomadia and have spent countless hours on their blog, website, seeking out podcast episodes, etc. They are fantastic!!! Again, thanks to all who chimed in here (and for any future feedback) and I will certainly post updates! I'm excited, despite being nervous and overwhelmed, but that's how the best things in life go - right?! Take care.
  14. I had not even considered doing that, to be honest. It makes sense; though I'm not sure I'd feel right about doing it that way in my situation. Something to consider, though. I do have employer sponsored insurance based on my current location in Connecticut. How would you recommend looking into how that would be affected? I guess I'd start by looking at the network coverage area and go from there. Thanks!
