  4. Mr. Darryl, with the brakes caged, all is working fine. However if I leave the truck parked for several weeks, the brake passenger side front tandem does not easily release. I replaced the turbo on the truck, and because I wanted to check my work with a test drive, I caged the brake beforehand, so in case it was stuck I would not need to deal with the brakes before taking a test run. I am going to test for leaks on that pot as soon as I get access to the driveway again. Wife has it tied up currently. Do not want to release the brakes in its current location, the slight incline is not conducive to proper caulking of the wheels.
  5. Only sticks after being parked for a prolonged amount of time. In my mind if the shoes were rusting to the drum, I would have still had the shoes stuck when I went out and caged that brake(the one that hangs up) before I started the truck after several weeks.
  6. It does take a while for the brakes to stick, but it is always the same end of the forward rear axle(passenger side). My thoughts are if it was a sticking issue, caging the can would not have pulled the shoes away from the drum. In my mind Caging the brake is just the same as releasing the brakes from the dash knob.
  7. I caged the brake that was hanging up, before I test drove it. I was able to watch the brake shoes move away from the drum. This makes me think the S-cam and shoes are good to go. I am thinking that the parking brake side of the can may be what is not releasing the shoes from the drum. I think I want to change the can next, the Volvo dealer had them for $30 when I was picking up seals and gaskets so I grabbed one. Thoughts?
  8. Turbo is in, thank you Daryl for the advice on clicking the turbo, both sides needed adjustment. Thank you Jim, went to the dealer and got all the seals I rings gaskets etc and replaced with new. Truck pulling much stronger now. I used antisieze on just about everything. Thanks all for the help and advice. One thing if you tackle this job yourself on a Volvo, remove the three oil filters and the oil filter housing FIRST, then proceed to R&R the turbo. Michael

  10. 10-4 Thank you for you advice. All the EGR piping and the large exhaust brake assembly will be daunting to get lined up again. The cold side has a coupler and two large O-rings, should I replace these while it's apart? Should I use antisieze on anything?
  11. 10-4, thanks. If the flanges are not clocked correctly, can I loosen the larger clamp and adjust?
  12. I spent 4 hours this morning removing the turbo from my EGR equipped VED12d Volvo in my VNL 780. When I receive the replacement and get it installed, should I prelude this turbo with fresh oil before starting the truck? Any other tips on this procedure? Thanks, Michael
  13. The issue causing the loss of prime with my Volvo d12 looks to have been the lower fuel filter. While manually priming the truck I built enough pressure for fuel to spray out between the fuel filter and the housing. When I removed the fuel filter, I observed the rubber gasket was "swollen", and not sitting in it's groove on top of the fuel filter. Hope this helps someone else. Michael

  20. If you do a Google search for Volvo VNL Hood mirrors installation instructions, you will find a link to a PDF from Class 8 truck parts with step by step instructions with measurements and images to accomplish the install. I can't seem to figure out how to share the link.
