  1. The Hoarders have overlooked the small hidden away drugstores or try a store that is open 24hrs and go just after they stock the shelves. Lots of Kleenex overlooked, pallets of it. Thrifty's opens to handicap and geriatrics 7-8 am. Maybe the Pres could order Michellin or Goodyear to start production on TP...12 or 16 ply.
  2. Chocks can be extended. The original car was 98" long, 2nd is 106" so I added a plate under and drilled, cut sloppy bolt holes. Rear chocks stay put. I don't use the front chocks any more, the modified ratchet strap is quicker and I don't have to worry about bolts going in crossthreaded or a 'helper' messing things up. Vice grips were just on for final adjustments. Loose end is normally wrapped around the belt.
  3. It probably would if it was lived in it all year or they RV in Canada during the rest of the year. One of them may have developed an illness rendering them unable to drive or taken the rig or had it taken south and parked some time ago. The RV park may fold, then what? It may be a while before this clears up so best get everything home. It doesn't matter the reason
  4. There is milk you can get that requires no refrigeration until opened..is it Milk to go??
  5. I stopped doing FA on Construction sites, the builders still don't get it and neither do the Temp Agencies that send us out. My idea was to use an antiseptic product and wipe down everything that could be touched in the 40' Britco trailer which had FA at one end, site boss at the other and plan tables/meeting room in the middle. Also handrails everywhere, the doghouse, (covered outside blueprint area) plus anything else I could find....nope, the site boss said, we are not making any wholesale changes. Workers still spit on the slab, I scuff it with my boot or brush dust over it. The first aid supplies are spread out all over an event table. I and my predecessor offered to build a locking cupboard but no, they are fine where they are. They could take a chapter out of the Costco handbook when it comes to FA and cleanliness of the food area. I wanted to mop the floor, nope there is some plywood that needs putting up. At the end of the day the site boss said, 'see you tomorrow', I said 'nope, I'm done, someone else can replace me. Construction sites may not be possible to get 100% clean but they can sure get a lot better than they are now. Social distancing is not happening. We shall see what the count is by weeks or months end. When I buy groceries and especially fruit and vegetables, I go to a store that's open 24 hrs and have the shelf stocker get me untouched product from the back before it goes on the shelf.
  6. I saw that but not sure when. Also would need to see if returning rv's by the owner or others would be classified as essential. In the past, there has been more than 1 story of people having issues in this regard. Costs of leaving it ? , security. This would eliminate 1 problem but time may be short.
  7. So, I'm putting the offer out there, if there is anyone or knows of anyone stuck in the US and not able to personally drive their rigs back to Canada, I'll do it. If my insurer will look after my personal insurance for the duration and the Maroonee can get their insurer to cover me driving the rig, plus look after hard costs, I'll do it for no charge. Doesn't matter where the rig is or where it has to go, it can be done. It would need to be in good mechanical condition. I'd probably need someone with me or a letter from the owner or the owner to meet me at the border.
  8. Washington state is a hotspot, BC where I am is trying to solve the border xing potential problem. X border trade for 1, lumber for instance. I got a job rehabbing cruise ships but the firm is scrambling to get crews back to Canada from all over the world. Going out of Country is not in the cards.
  9. Canadians have been advised to return home. This has put a damper on rehab jobs on Cruise ships all over the world. We can't get there or get back. Diesel prices just dropped another 8 cents today. That's 10 weeks in a row. https://ycharts.com/indicators/us_retail_diesel_price I do FA on construction sites and the builders here still don't get it. When workers begin taking time off sick or refusing work due to safety concerns maybe they will get the message.
  10. With that setup, the trailer can still be pulled off the blocks forward. Maybe a piece of flat bar added to the front to prevent that from happening. Putting the box on plastic or rubber is a good idea.
  11. It flushes in the opposite direction. Or is that south of the equator.
  12. My Volvo's predecessor was an'01 IH 4700 DT 530, even after having the shift points changed on the Allison it still came up short on power. The 730 has air brakes the 530 was hydraulic plus it only had an exhaust brake....no comparison. Going down an 8% grade in southern Washington state, I can set the cruise on 45 mph set brake cruise for 2-3 mph over and sit back and watch the scenery without touching the service brake. When the rig accelerates 2-3 mph over cruise, the brake cruise cuts in, grabs the truck and slows it down to 45 then lets go to do it all again. The 4700, I'm told is old tech, the 730 is more current and a lot quieter. I hope yours is a good find and not a neglected POS putting you in the poor house. I'd be asking for service records.
  13. These have been out for some years. FF to 60 sec.
  14. Here's my contribution to the issue. Firstly, Stan Miller over a decade ago told me not to stack blocks higher than 7". If the trailer comes off for some reason things will shear or break. So these are leftovers from a construction project, 12" wide by maybe 20" long. The white locking block is 1 - 1/8" thick and about 1/8" smaller in overall dimension of the cutouts in the big blocks. The cutouts on front and back of the big blocks are slightly bigger than the landing gear feet and 5/8" deep. I marked out the cutout size then drilled most of the material with a drill and speedbore then made a jig to sit on top and used my laminate trimmer with a 1/4" straight flute cutter to trim the rest out and adjust for depth. Edges of the big blocks got bullnoses as there were lots of frayed edges. Put on a couple of coats of leftover stain to protect. I put the blocks on 3/8" thick rubber to keep them off the ground. The rope was attached by drilling down from the font on an angle and roughly the same angle up from the bottom to intersect halfway...if that's clear?? Pushed the rope thru on both ends, did a stopper knot on both an jammed them back in the holes then caulked the holes with black butyl or whatever there was available. The blocks lock together, encapsulate the feet to prevent accidently pulling the trailer off the blocks. I have it set up so if the ground is flat the landing gear needs no adjustment. All I do is dump the hitch first then drop the suspension count to 10 then drive out from under the trailer.
  15. I don't have the concrete experience GH does but I've been involved in a fair bit. These hoist probably weigh more than the car at about 2000# ish. Roughly 1k on each side and 500# each side of center. It would take a lot to tip one side especially since the bases are put in with probably 3/4" anchors. I've put in tons of these anchors in wall plates. You can almost sink the washers in with the nuts and those are just 1/2". These hoists are way overkill.
  16. They've been on strike for the last 3 months but back to work now. I'll try to get a pic in the next couple of days and post it.

Call Tucson and ask them, they've always been helpful to me.
  18. That was 2.5 yrs ago and things have changed. I spoke to the border people at the Sidney BC ferry terminal going into the US. If I show them letters of invitation from the various volunteer groups, US Customs will let me pass with pretty much all the tools I want to carry. All my stuff is in Pelican boxes with cutouts in the foam to keep the tools protected. Even the Dewalt table saw fits in one. All the laminating tools are in 1, saws and drills in another etc. The foam contains the tool and if anything vibrates loose then I know where it is. I'd take pics and serial #'s more for the return thru Canadian Customs or they may think the tools were purchased in the US. Re putting the US workers out of work, that will never happen. With all the disasters the US has, they will never catch up. There were 140,000 homes flooded out in Baton Rouge, let alone small privately owned businesses.
  19. The business of towing the 453's came up a year or 2 ago. I asked the local dealer, one of the two biggest in Canada. Both Service and Parts said no. This would be for the Automatic. I'm not aware of a Standard being available. I'm also told no more Smarts are being exported to NA after 2019. So someone trying to prove me wrong posted some documentation contradicting what I'd been told. Put something in this setting and disconnect something else, can't recall exactly. So I figured OK go ahead. It may be a US thing compared to Canadian...don't know. What I will tell you is that there was a brand new 2016 in a Parts bay with the transmission removed because the owner who had a Motorhome towed it and destroyed the trans. This after being told it was towable by sales dept. The dealer wound up bringing in 2 transmissions, the first one being wrong so a second was shipped in at dealers expense. By this time the owner bought something that was towable and was refunded his purchase price. Eventually the car was repaired and sold with full warranty. So, I take draconian measures to load mine safely. Others want to drive up...hey, go for it. As a member said, ' it is about mitigating risk'. Or like in Robot wars or Battlebotts, you don't build to win, you build to try to not lose...or something like that. So as the lawyers say, 'govern yourself accordingly'
