  1. I belong to a rural carriers page on FB, it is a wonder as much mail got delivered as did. The stories the carriers post on there are horrendous. Carriers carrying more than one route in a day. Carriers going from an average of 70 parcels a day to a day of having 670. Carriers required to stay and work after their route is finished for another 6 to 8 hours to sort parcels for the next day. A huge failure of management, at what level I dont know.
  2. I would say you are getting your money's worth out of the postage you are paying.
  3. Where did you get this information? Are you talking about truck drivers who are USPS employees, or companies that contract with the USPS to haul mail?
  4. I saw a piece on the news yesterday about this problem. One of the ways the private carriers are dealing with this issue is having its drivers refuse to pick up parcels at several locations to keep their volume to what they can handle, and then because these parcel mailers cant use the private companies, they then send their parcels through the USPS, who as far as I know, doesnt turn down any business.
  5. Although, it has been several years since I retired, one of the rules that the USPS implemented before I retired was that there was to be no mail left in the post office at the end of the day that should have been delivered that day, so when something is not delivered it is put in with mail to be shipped somewhere else and then has to work its way back to the correct post office. Also, in probably many post offices and sorting centers there is a back log of mail to be sorted. Yesterday, I saw a picture of six or seven semi loads of mail waiting to be unloaded and sorted at one post office in Pennsylvania. Also, I have seen a posts by several rural carriers whose normal job is to work five days a week, but are now required to work seven days a week. It sure would be nice if those that are in charge would make the USPS run like it should be run.
  6. I am not sure how they deal with it, but they probably do it by either adding more help, holding back parcels, or sending then to the USPS to have them deliver them under their "last mile" service. If the USPS would do a better job of managing things, the glut on Monday wouldnt be a problem, but upper levels of management wont let postmasters and managers use enough help to get the job done in a timely manner. The other day I was reading posts on a Rural Carrier FB page, and one carrier had over 600 items to scan in one day, back 15 years ago before I retired, if I had 20 items a day to scan was a big day.
  7. Sadly in 2006 the Congress and the President decided that the USPS should pay about $6 billion a year to cover the cost of future retirees. The last I heard there was enough money in that account to cover retirees 75 years into the future which means people who are not yet born, but will be and the work for the USPS already have their retirement paid for. By the way, no other government entity or private enterprise entity are required to do this! The second problem with the USPS is that the Postal Board of Governors has hamstrung the Postal Rate Commission when it comes to raising or changing rates on postal products or services. Then there is the problem of poor management as we have seen with the latest Postmaster General. The problem with going to five day delivery is that the mail doesnt stop. During normal times of the year the amount of mail received in a post office is two days mail, Sunday and Monday. Go to five day delivery would exacerbate that, and add the holiday season and it gets crazy. Another problem that needs addressing in the USPS is closing of small offices. Currently, when the USPS wants to close a small office, the customers contact their elected representatives, and not wanting to upset constituents, they wont allow the USPS to close the office, adding to the financial burden of the USPS. As I said many times when I worked for the USPS, if it is no longer needed, just close it down, but dont kill it, then say, it died on its own.
  8. Thanks for the list Kirk. It is great what all these businesses are doing to honor veterans. I have only taken advantage of a Veteran's Day discount once, and I didnt feel all that comfortable doing it. I did what my country asked when they asked and dont feel the need to be thanked for doing my duty to my country.
  9. When we are in Arizona it matters to us as my wife works remotely, starting her work day at 7:30 Central Time which is 6:30 Mountain Time, but when Iowa goes on Daylight Saving Time, her workday would start at 5:30 Central Daylight Saving Time, so we usually get out of Arizona on the weekend the rest of the world goes in Daylight Saving Time.
  10. "The fundamental problem is that while the USPS generates enough revenue to cover its operating costs, its pension and retiree health care liabilities push its bottom line into the red. The USPS has operated at a loss since 2007. From 2008 to 2018, it reported $69 billion in losses. For the 2019 fiscal year, it lost $8.8 billion on $71" The USPS has operated at a loss from 2007 on because in 2006 the Congress and the President thought it was a good idea to force the USPS to pay about 6 billion a year into the retirement fund, which will then have enough money in it to pay retirees 75 years into the future! This a a requirement that no other private business or government agency, or quasi-governmental agency has to pay. The only reason for doing this was to continue efforts to destroy the USPS.
  11. You are free to believe whatever you wish, but there is no way on God's green earth that the USPS loses 5% of the mail. On a side note, mail that is returned to the sender for any reason is not "lost mail."
  12. The problem with ending Saturday delivery is that the mail does not stop on the weekends. Mail is still processed and transported. As it is now even with Saturday delivery, Mondays can be very hectic with basically two days mail that needs to be sorted and delivered in the same time frame as one days mail. Add a Monday holiday, then there would be three days mail to be delivered on Tuesday. The US Postal Service can work as well or as poorly as those in charge of its' operation want it to.
  13. I have an old plan as well. I pay $130 per month. I believe it is limited to 700 minutes per month, with unlimited text and data. I never come close to the 700 minutes, but as I do more streaming using my phone as a hotspot using FoxFi my data usage is going up. Last month I used about 80 gig of data, but I have heard of people with these plans using up to 1000 gig of data per month. I do believe there is value in these plans, but not sure all the details to sell them, but I do see there are some for sale on e-bay.
  14. It is a Patriot Act thing. Not sure if the rule was allied correctly though, but I believe that the USPS no longer just lets people rent boxes without providing a verifiable address.
  15. I cant imagine working in that post office! Although, when there are that many snowbirds coming there through the winter is going to cause problems no matter what, but the problems there in winter cold be alleviated with better management! For the life of me I dont understand why management does not allow more clerk hours than they do. Not sure if it is the local Postmaster that is the problem or management higher up that likes to see the chaos that is the Quartzsite post office in the winter. If you want to know what DeJoy did, imagine almost all post offices like Quartzsite in winter all year round as far as mail transportation and delivery.
  16. That is some BS! I can see requiring an ID to pick up General Delivery mail, but never would I ever mail an ID to a post office in advance.
  17. Your member of the House of Representatives, and your two Senators. By the way , it is these people who keep the USPS from closing small offices. When the USPS wants to close small offices, customers complain to their Congresspeople and the Congresspeople not wanting to maybe lose votes, then get the Congress to keep these offices open, but without money to make it worthwhile.
  18. You should not have to fill out an application to get General Delivery Mail, but we have been to places where that is the standard. When mail is received at a post office, and addressed to General Delivery, it should have a date placed on it, and held for 30 days regardless of whether the recipient has filled out an application, but some Postmasters just make up rules as they go along.
  19. From the OP. "Here is farm video of the farm the wife and I have harvested for during the last 6 years. The beet harvest begins at about the 16 min slot on the video."
  20. Call Paul Maddox at 602-549-3638. He does troubleshooting for HWH. If he doesnt answer, leave a message. He will get back to you as quickly as he can. He posts his information on another RV forum, so not problem posting it here. Good luck
  21. What do you see as problematic with mail in voting? Some states have doing it for quite some time without issue, and our military have been doing it for years without any issues that I have heard of.
