  1. That's a very good question and I am wondering too. Recently obtained an electric bicycle. In reading the manual it says to leave the battery at less than 100% when sitting for an extended time and only charge it to full just before a ride. That's sure hard to do when you really don't know when you might hop on it. My new Motorcycle came with a Lithium starting battery. I'm assuming to diminish weight, but I made the mistake of adding a camera to the bike with a "Parking Monitor" apparently it uses a lot of current and it depleted my brand new bike battery in a couple of days of non riding. I unplugged it when I got a warning that my bike was being tampered with while I could see it and was sure nothing was going on. Caused a computer glitch on the bike requiring a trip to the shop and an $80 hookup charge to reset. Thankfully the issue repeated itself before the trip to the shop. I had the battery fully charged and thought I'd plug the camera in for the short ride to the shop, but was stopping at an event for less than an hour. Sure enough I came out to a dead battery again. This time I was close enough to my daughter who has a pocket Jumper device and I was able to ride to my service appointment and arrive on time. I don't know what I'll do when it gets below freezing and I want to ride when the roads are dry. I'd rather ride at 20 degrees than 85. I feel like I can always put on more (or different) layers, but at some point you cannot take off any more and still be safe. Sort of of off topic, but I wonder how the bike maintains the charge on the battery. I contacted my dealership with a question about putting an AGM in and they suggested not doing so. The charging system is different. Rod
  2. Thanks Ray. For some reason when I turned it on this morning all was fixed. I did leave the computer on last night, but turned off the TV. Now I have to remount the TV because I'm spoiled from the size of the screen already and the tiny desk top has been yet turned on. My neck is feeling it though. Rod
  3. Too bad, would be nice to know the answers to all those questions. Rod
  4. And both are quite annoying. They also seem to find out they are low on power between 1am and 4am on a Saturday or Sunday night. At least that's what usually happens for me. Rod
  5. I really liked the Rand McNally maps, the GPS unit was not very good and didn't last very long at all compared to the Garmin's I have had. Just got an iPhone and use the Carplay map or Waze in my Jeep and motorcycle. WIll have to keep an Android to use the unit I put in my new to me Truck. It won't talk to the iPhone. Rod
  6. Linda, Movies are for entertainment, not really depicting real life.... The sad part is, most stories do have real life as the starting point. Someone sees something and writes about it, next there is script using made up people and places so no one really knows if it really happened or not. Another thing is the films about the future and what people think could never happen. Well in my mind if someone has thought up the scenario, made it happen in a film, then someone else cant tweak it a bit and make it happen in real life. Wouldn't it be wonderful if all the bad things that happened in movies never happened in real life. How about all the good things that happen to people in real life that we hardly ever hear about. We certainly hear about the majority of the bad stuff. I'm reading a book I found in the dumpster last week called "The Greatest Gamblers" it was written by Ruth Sheldon Knowles about the "Epic of American Oil Exploration" it appears in 1959, but a second edition came out in 1978. Some of the stuff that was done during those early times was horrendous and I want and don't want to see the movie of the awful crimes done to the Native Americans in the Tulsa area. Yet have we learned? Not at all it appears to me, at least not the majority yet. Rod
  7. In some of the more "Agricultural" areas some stations do have separate pumps with the Red Dye so the Farmers don't have to keep receipts and send them in for reimbursement. At the Tire Shop I worked at the past two summers if I tried to charge a Farmer "Sales Tax" on his new Tractor tires I'd catch hell from them. "Dyed fuel may not be worth the effort. Right now, I can buy taxed fuel at Costco for nearly a dollar less than I can buy dyed fuel locally. And then there's the convenience factor. How much is it worth to go out of the way to save pennies on red fuel?" (From Rickeieio's post. ) The above is certainly true if you have to do the paper work. Rod
  8. I've carried my Mom's computer around since her passing. Last summer I was able to hook it up at my brothers business on the LAN and used it for a few things with a couple event's I manage. Got it back out a couple days ago and visited a local computer shop to have a WIFI doodad installed, they sent me to one of the big box stores with a parts list and I'm able to use it now. I got a Display Port to HDMI cord and have hooked it up to my TV. The picture is really good, but I have to guess where the X is in the top right hand to close a page and the location of the "Windows Icon" to shut it down or restart. It's doable, but I'd prefer to being able to see the entire page. Anyone got any suggestions? I've tried clicking around trying to shrink it, but nothing is working so far for me. Rod
  9. I'd like to hear of the amount of diesel that's used with the big generators and water heaters. I'd refrain from transferring from the truck unless it was an emergency. You should be able to fill the trailer tank with non taxed dyed fuel at a much less price than the road diesel. Did you do two ODU's with their own IDU? What type, cassette or the wall mount? Rod
  10. I'm going on 3 years with my LG and I have not had a LP Gas furnace hooked up until recently. (Yesterday in fact). The only reason I hooked the Gas back up is to have a backup for the electric heater I have in the water pump area. (It's the only area that has an issue with temps under 20 degrees.) I have the low static flow with the Spacecraft ceiling ducting and a Wall mounted unit in the bed/living area. Don't really need the extra unit there and maybe some day will have it moved to the "Basement" to provide climate control for a potential large lithium battery bank. At 20 degrees outside temp the air coming from the farthest vent from the source was 80 degrees. I think last year it got to 12 for a couple days and I was nice and toasty as long as the power stayed on. I did purchase a generator large enough to power my rig just in case. Did find out it won't work on Propane at 12 degrees, at least with one of the small tanks. (the generator that is.) Not sure what this winter will have in store for me. I'm in Norman, OK at least till after January 10th. Rod
  11. watching have not yet found the hidden (Waldo). Rod
  12. From someone who has had both. Started with a 1999 F250 Crew Cab DRW with an 8 foot bed and the 7.3 Powerstroke. It pulled real good, stopped OK, but the Auto Transmission in that year was it's weak point. It failed on me with my first trip. You haven't had an issue it seems so far. I looked for an MDT at first but they were way out of my price range. Happened to find this site and the HDT section and attended my first National Rally in 2010 I think. If you are not in a hurry to make the jump and want some real information, the ability to sit in, touch things and maybe drive one then attend either the Spring East Coast Rally, the National Rally or the West Coast Rally. (I think I have them in the order with the soonest one first.) Many have used the truck as a daily driver. I don't. The only time I start it is when it's time to move to the next place. It takes WAY TOO MUCH TIME for it to really warm up to operating temperature. It was way hard for me to not knock on the door of my neighbors Class A Gas rig this morning when she started it up again to run for 20 minutes and then shut it off. I have thought it was her over the past month she has been here, but today I was outside when it started and saw the moisture dripping out of the tail pipe. (Which it was still dripping when she shut it off. If you actually do move 3 to 4 hours every few weeks, most likely you will be OK with using the truck for errands. If you can get the drive line warmed up too with those drives that would be a bonus. So in closing, yes you will be more comfortable on long drives in the air ride seat. Having a short wheel base will give a harsher ride at times, but those large wheels and tires do make a difference in crossing all but the widest cracks in the pavement. If you go with a Volvo the turning radius will most likely be as short or shorter than your LGT. (Little Girly Truck) This is my opinion, others will offer theirs too I hope. Rod
  13. Ok, it's not working right now and I'm having to submit this twice. 1Many years ago while working in South Florida, I worked with a few Drs. who would inform their patients that they did not have "Malpractice Insurance" for the reason of cost. I do not recall any patient refusing to have the procedure, but of course I'd hope they wouldn't have made it to the schedule if there was that possibility. The medical community called it going "Bare" at that time, not sure if that would be accepted today. My experiences with a PCP or PCM started as a Clinical office manager in a Family Practice office that was also a "Resident Physician" training location. That too was many years ago and I'm sure things have changed a lot. I had to contact the insurance companies to obtain "Authorization" from them to send patients to "Specialists". Sometimes it could be a very drawn out ordeal, especially in the early days of my working there. I soon became known by the reviewers and I also determined what needed to be said to have few issues in getting a referral. It was an interesting job, but the pay was disturbingly low and the office was always in the red. Not sure how that affected the Residents opinion of private practice, but it sure put me off wondering if needed supplies would actually be arriving when needed. Personally I have had little contact as a patient with the medical community. I'm sure that will change more as I get older. It's happened a couple times in 2023 already. I think I'm glad the year is about over. I've done some "Polls" before Kirk and I know you have too. I'm going to add one to this topic to see if people want one. Ok, it's not working right now and I'm having to submit this twice.

  15. This is such a can of worms and I really shouldn't be helping anyone open it up. But here I go. Maybe you have read this before, but Health Care is not what it used to be. Drs. also are not what the used to be. Patients are not people any more in the greatest sense of the word, but are a product. They are an item that generates income for many, many people now. It used to be the Dr. would treat the ill and be paid for his services, and yes I just used the male pronoun, because in the beginning only Men were allowed for the most part to be Drs. If you were a female and wanted to work in health care you could be a Nurse. Thankfully that has changed and either sex or pronoun can be what ever they want to be as long as they follow the rules the insurance companies set forth for appropriate billing and accept the payments they decide are best. Chalkie listed off several costs associated with a medical practice. Most of them are now taken care of by Hospitals and Clinics where many, many physicians are employed by such and they all receive a different Annual Salary no matter how many patients they see or the level of their expertise in the real sense of the word. An individual practitioner is a very rare being and most likely is only a specialist and often times does not accept insurance payments. He or She will give you a bill to turn into an insurance company, Medicare and maybe Medicaid, but it's on the patient to follow up on any reimbursements. At least that's how I see it with some Drs. So I'm thinking about a Poll of how may of the participants on this forum have a: "Personal Physician (PP)" currently? Have any had a "PP" in the past? Consider the "Emergency Department" as their "Go To" health care. ? Use the "Doc in the Box" Urgent Care facilities.? And the big question is "If you were admitted to the Hospital, Would you expect to see your PP?" That's all for today, but I will be following. PM me if you have specific questions. Rod
  16. Thanks for the suggestion Chalkie, I think I will see what the least expensive Verizon service is and then decide if it's worth it. Probably won't do the Google though. They already have too much of my info already. Rod
  17. Got the bill for the "New Rate" and won't be paying it. Way back when I was with "Alltel" living in Kansas. Started back to Travel Nursing and was disappointed with the service in Florida. Heard about the about the purchase of the Cellular part by Verizon, so I decided to visit the local office in Florida to see if I could upgrade. Sure enough the salesperson said no problem and in fact I can give you a 20% discount by being a Nurse. At the time the best plan for me was a limited talk and text plan but with unlimited data. It seemed like a good deal and I have kept it ever since. Never changing never upgrading, never getting a new phone through them. My internet was faster than any "WiFi" I ever encountered in my home on wheels. Several years ago they asked me to update my information regarding the discount. I did and no problem. This past year they asked again and apparently my response didn't satisfy them and I was notified I would have to pay the full price. I started looking around for a replacement. I tried the "T-Mobile" (and posted about that in another post.) I tried a different Verizon account by choosing a phone on my brothers business plan. In two days I was notified that I was nearing my "Unlimited Data amount". Those notifications were multiple times a day even after contacting my "Representative" to ensure I had "Unlimited Data". Apparently I didn't and I returned that phone too. (It was the Fold 4 Samsung and I really liked it, but not with the constant "warnings".) I arrived in Oklahoma a month or so ago and visited an "Authorized Retailer" to discuss a Trial. They reported there as "no such thing", you sign up and you are locked into the contract. I walked away. A few weeks later I think I found an AT&T corporate store and learned about FirstNet and signed up. Have had it for several weeks now and no warnings about too much data and it seems to work great. I did go with the iPhone 15 plus and am starting to get used to the non Android stuff. (My youngest who lives nearby has been complaining about my Android photos and such for a while so I decided to try the iPhone again. I'd tried a 14 with T-Mobile.) If you have read this far and am wondering why I'm sharing, I'm trying to decide if I want to keep my prior Verizon number and just down grade to the least expensive service, since it appears the unlimited data plan isn't worth anything now to anyone else. I'm certainly not paying what they are asking for my next bill. Questions, comments and suggestions appreciated. Rod
  18. Thanks, I put some at the end of my truck behind the axle where the frame is sticking out. It's not pretty, but I can see it now. Rod
  19. Just an added warning. You can test the outlet and it will not have any power, but the wires connected to the device can have power, especially if it's not a "Ground Fault Circuit Breaker" on that supply line. Carefully remove or gain access to the wire connections to check for power before attempting to remove the wires from the faulty outlet. It's best to have two people when doing this. Check for power, if there is power have the second person shut off the breaker marked for that location. If you don't lose power, then it's the task of finding the right breaker, by turning them off until finding the one that cuts power where you are working. I do a double check. Off, back on and then off before working on it. In one of my recent repairs that outlet was wired incorrectly according to the directions on the non working outlet and the new one I was replacing it with. I did not do "Exactly what I found" because it was wrong. (IMHO) Rod
  20. Replaced a couple in a Sticks and Bricks recently. Visited the local Hardware Store and found buying a pack of 3 was about the same price as a single one. Lucky I chose to spend a few extra at the time. Turned out I would have had to go back to the store for another one since the one on the back patio was also not working in addition to the one I knew about in the garage. The "Home inspector" they used before the purchase sure didn't do a very good job. Thankfully the homeowner was there during the repair. She and a friend now have the skills to replace one on their own. She knows how to safely remove it for testing, turn off the power at the breaker panel. Retest both on and off again and how not to do a tactile test for something that's "HOT". I'll bet I will still get a call when something breaks or doesn't work, but someday they will have to do it themselves either with their skill and sweat equity or the checkbook. Rod
  21. Not sure why the video was attached to this topic. I did upload it yesterday with an offer to sell one of my Honda's. I'm now interested in seeing if I should just downgrade my Unlimited Data Verizon plan or if it's still worth anything to anyone. I've changed plans and will keep my old number, but in a prepaid fashion only for emergencies unless someone can get some good use out of it. I'm not looking to make any money off of it, but don't want to surrender it if it could be useful to someone else. I'm paying about the same amount with another carrier and the service where I am is good. That may change and I might regret my decision, but that's on me. Rod
  22. Is a Grandfathered Verizon unlimited data account worth anything now?
