    It's official

Someone inquired about this post in a PM. I thought I'd put it here, but found it in the post of jenandjon What did you do to your truck today. Rod
  2. Thanks for the visual Henry, I'm working on what to do with my area behind the wheels. My hitch though is over the rear axle and not all the way to the end. I've got photos in another post. Rod
  3. I might, will see how things look when I get it cut off and if the parts I have will work. I'm planning to mount the box that was on the side of the other truck at the back. It has a fold down door, so that would get in the way of a receiver hitch. It's too big to have the hitch below it. I maybe could put it on the side behind the tires and get a matching one for the other side to leave the middle open. Need to start collecting cardboard to make some models. I'd do only one receiver, but would have something on each side to minimize the wobble Rick mentioned. Rod
  4. It will have to drop at least $50 per month to match my current unlimited Verizion that has been very good for me. I tried one of the "New" Verizon plans with a new phone, but found the speeds slower and had a near daily reminder that I was "Out of Data" after 8 days of my typical use. I still want one of the new "Fold" phones and will use it for my GPS in everything. It's coming with me anyway. I'll wait for a bit and see what the Fold 5 holds since the Pixel seemed to miss the mark. I liked the Fold 4, but not $1800 worth of like. Rod
  5. A LOT. Picked up the new to me 770 and started moving things from one to the other. Finding lots of things I forgot I had and some things the prior owner probably forgot he had. Lots of new Windshield wipers in lots of different places. I put them all in one spot and most likely won't be able to find one when I need it. TMI Was able to back under the trailer and actually lock the hitch. Couldn't move it, because the frame extended between the jack supports. I guess if I didn't want to turn... Found water in the lower gasket of both upper windows after finding a damp corner on one of the bench cushions. I'd like to eliminate them and heard there was a kit when I replaced one last summer. I couldn't wait for one to be found and Vanderhaggs had a used one in Des Moines. I might start a search soon. The near 200 mile drive with the truck yesterday was sure nice. Much better than the Bus ride to pick it up. Thankfully the day stayed breezy and not too hot so I was outside almost all day. Actually mounted my dash camera and it will stay there. I have two of the same type and can switch out with my motorcycle one with the magnetic mount if needed. I took a lot of pictures yesterday and today, but none of the whole truck and trailer together. That will come some day. I hope to post a photo of where I plan to cut off the extra frame for suggestions and comments. Hitch slid all the way forward. Could try sliding it back, but doubt I'll run that way much. The planned cut off is now a couple foot back from the suggested one earlier. Forgot to measure, but 58 inches to the pin was what they said it would be. I should have 48 inches and wish I would have measured. Rod
  6. For my two cats it's making sure there is food and water and clean litter boxes before I leave. I have an auto feeder that works well and I clean the water fountain before leaving for more than 24 hours. There is plenty of water, but there is a fur build up that blocks the flow if not cleared regularly. My home maintains it's temperature very well and I've not had an issue in over 2 years of pet parenting. I was very hesitant to get a pet and did not have one for the first 10 years of full time living. My work could keep me away for up to 24 hours and I didn't trust my first home. My current one has proved it's self since 2013. Rod
  7. Photos are hard to put here, but necessary for much interest.

    Hammocks

I put the title in the search area and found nothing. I thought I'd posted about my new Hammock I got while in North Dakota, but it didn't come up and I was too lazy to go to my content and try to find it. Anyway, the Hammock I purchased in North Dakota was nice. It was a Hammock and bug screen in one piece. I set it up in the campground I was staying at in Grand Forks and tried to sleep in it one night. The I 35 Interstate Hwy less than a mile east was quite noisy, the "Pole Lights" all over the campground didn't let it get very dark, so the trial didn't work. I did use it for other things for a day or two and then I sat in it for a bit and it ripped causing me to hit the ground. Of course it was returned. Several months ago I purchased a replacement from an REI store. It was a multi part outfit with the Hammock, a separate bug screen and a Rain cover. The sales person also said the "Tree straps" were the best. (Not). I've set it up a couple times and the bug screen isn't as user friendly as the first one, the Tree Straps are not easily fine tuned and it seemed to wrap me up like a mummy. Last night I thought it would be the perfect night to try it out at a local state Campground. It didn't get to 80 degrees all day, there was a nice breeze coming from the North West and the spot I trialed one afternoon last week was open. I got all set up. Had some food and waited for darkness to fall. I'd had a long day and usually am in bed just before sunset in the summer, but it was too light outside and with the mummy effect the breeze didn't feel all that cool, even with the temp getting close to the 70 degree mark. What you don't notice when trialing a place during the daytime is even if the lights seem a long way away from the "Tent" location and the tree cover you thought would be good didn't really work out. I almost made it to midnight before packing it all up and heading for home. I was hoping I could just easily fall asleep and wake up refreshed and I'd be able to use the set up on a nice long motorcycle trip someday. I've done the "Pup" tent several times and have slept well, but it seemed like there was a lot of setup. (didn't have the dome style, used the old pole at each end and lots of tie stakes to keep it open and in place. Looks like if it's a summer trip it will have to be finding a Motel room for the night, which I probably won't do. I've watched a lot of YouTube on how to set them up. Maybe I need to watch some more. Rod
  9. Depends on which one you like best. There are good and bad with both. Texas is another option and maybe more if you really want to dig into it. Your tax consultant, health care provider, investment advisor can give you more personal advice and I checked with all before choosing South Dakota. I have a favorite mail box service too. PM me if you would like the name. I've been with two and the last one has been the best, a good friend gave me the recommendation. Rod
  10. I watched my 2001 for several years. Had the harness and the ECM replaced a couple years ago. The harness still leak, but they say it will fail before it gets to the ECM after the replacement Harness. Not going to wait to see. The shop that did the work in Grand Forks was part of a "network" that had a roving ECM. They would request it, plug it in and if it fixed the truck then they would find a new one to sell. Took only a couple of days to find and about that much time to have the new harness put in and the new ECM "programed". Should make the D12 more valuable when it comes time to sell it. Rod
  11. What about cat's, do they ignore the blocks too? What if the cat consumes a rodent that has been poisoned ? Does it cause them any problems? An inquiring mind wishes to know. Rod

Carl, That's yet to be determined. I haven't priced anything to anyone yet so I don't know if it will be worth it to part it out. Also not sure if I want to be the one removing things. As we both know Vander Haggs doesn't have much in the way of a Gen 1 or Gen II Volvo or their parts. I'm sure there are many of them still on the road though. I haven't made the call to them yet to even see if they are interested. From my initial post it seems the the inside door panels are what a couple people want. No one else has expressed interest in anything else. I will be moving some things from the 2001 to the 2000 and am hoping it will be an easy move. That too will be determined at a later date. I don't think I will be heading to pick it up till after the 4th of July. Too many things happening between now and the holiday. Appreciate your question. Rod

It all went fine. His umbilical had two electrical connectors. One for the "Tarp Mover" and it sort of flopped out of where we had placed it. Glad I noticed before we left the parking lot. I am not and will never be a videographer. That's why I have so few you tube things. First I never remember until the job is done and I'm not 'Recreating' it every. Second, while I will admit my mistakes if they are found, I will not usually draw attention to myself if I'm making one, except in patient care, that's a whole different ballgame. I don't plan on getting that close, but I do want less than the 5 to 6 feet that I've had. I might even really measure my length. Rod

Ok, I'm assuming you watched and are now reading what's below. The video is a shot of the first time I've hooked my trailer up to anything other than a truck I owned. My Cousin was kind enough to move my home for me while I'm moving from one truck to another. I was a bit worried when he backed under it, but pleasantly surprised at how much better it looked. (at least to me). I gained a lot of information by doing this I think and will make the decision on where to cut off the frame on the truck that will be pulling my home for a long time much easier. (at least I hope so.) After the 1 minute 40 second mark there is nothing to see. I should have cut that part before uploading, but forgot there was that portion at the end. Can't seem to cut it off now. As always, questions, comments, suggestions and anything else is appreciated. Rod
  15. I am not and was not. It is a recreation in my mind, but your mind may see it differently and that's ok too. My apologies to anyone who takes offence to my thoughts, sometimes they exit before I consider who it may bother. I will try to do better. Rod
  16. "Reality TV and Reality shows" have essentially ruined the word, changed the meaning and we are hardly even aware of it maybe??? As it's been well reported many of the "Real" event's have been staged for effect. Takes and retakes. I in fact enjoy seeing the number of hours and number of attempts people are wasting to get that special shot on video to show off. Makes my non recorded event's that are similar much more important to me since I didn't spend hours trying to do it, it just happened. Of course it may have been me as the only one seeing. Thanks for posting, but this isn't reality, it's a recreation of a persons experience and each person in the episode could make a completely different impression with their particular "Spin". Rod
  17. Good, because I was going to have to say it was a 1999 760 so it probably wouldn't have worked. Glad you found one. rod
  18. I didn't get to check today, but will call one person tomorrow if I'm not able to run there tonight. Rod
  19. I know where there are a couple older Volvo trucks. Won't be the same color, but I'll take a look at them and see what they have. Yours is a Gen 2 right? 2006 I see in your signature. Rod
  20. They won't let you test drive it? If it's an RV why do they think they need a CDL, they are test driving not hauling you for freight. Sorry for your headaches. Rod
  21. The concern is will the extended frame behind the hitch contact any point on the trailer going over a hump in the road. I'm not concerned about the swing. There is plenty of room for that. Would like to be a one and done with this truck. (at least with frame modifications) Thanks for the comments and questions so far. Rod
  22. I've used a product named "Back to Black" and it works for a few months, but then fades. I have often thought about a paint, but never tried one. Rod
  23. Thanks Darryl, Here is another photo of the truck and trailer where I have backed all the way under the front and the hitch plate is behind the king pin. The back of the frame was still 2 inches from the landing gear. Rod
  24. So here it is. How far back can the frame rails extend past the hitch? My King Pin is 12 inches from the very front of my trailer, which makes it over 80 inches from the landing gear at the front of the basement area. There is a lot of open space between the back of the truck and the start of the trailer. The hitch has been placed as close as possible to the drom box and they say is 56 to 58 inches from pin center hole to the box. That's with the slider hitch at it's full forward position (where it's apparently stuck). Here's the White truck photo The white drawing is the proposed cut off by the folks doing the work. Looking at it I could mount the box under that area, I guess. Wish I could see the end of the frame. I'm loosing the spot for my side box to an additional axle. I'm happy about the axle, but will miss that box. Would like to mount it to the rear maybe in the middle facing rearward. The door opens down. It's still currently attached to the frame rails of the Gold Truck. The box is on the other side behind the fuel tank but before the rear axle. Now that space is full. Sure wish I could find my side view more straight on. Found it!! So the last time the Gold truck was done they cut the frame off maybe 4 inches past the hitch frame leaving lots of room. In addition to the Generator I had a pressure washer and a ladder leaning up against the landing gear jacks. Too bad I didn't position myself lower and more to the rear of the truck frame. Any comments, suggestions and such welcomed and will be repaid somehow in the future. Rod
  25. At my last nursing job they had a "Book Club" they always wanted me to join. I'd visit the local "Thrift Shops" buy some books and then bring them in to share. I know Authors and publishers don't like that much, but they probably don't like sharing with Kindle either. I think of it as reducing, reusing and therefore recycling. Can't afford to carry around all the books I've read. I also sign up for library cards if I'm in a place for over a few weeks. (If they allow). Rod
