SWharton
We are presently near Clayton, OK in the COE park. We have a Mobley, Cricket Cell(ATT) and Tracphone Cell(Verizon). Neither cell has service, though the Cricket has 4 useless bars, the Mobley is fine. When I check for cell phone towers there are none around. Why is the Mobley working? Thanks
Mark and Dale Bruss
Possibly it is because the Mobley is powered and therefore has more transmit power than the phone where transmit power is limited to extend battery life. With wireless it isn't always about receiving the tower, it is the ability to transmit back to it. SWharton
Maybe be but I looked on Open Signal and there are no towers it can find.
chirakawa
Is the Cricket restricted to ATT towers? If so, the Mobley may be roaming. SWharton
Mobley is ATT only.
Dutch_12078
The Connected Car Plan used with the AT&T Mobley includes domestic roaming. International roaming can be enabled on the Mobley device management screen at current rates. Most AT&T and Verizon pre-paid MVNO plans (Cricket, Tracfone, etc) do not include roaming. SWharton
Maybe that is the answer then. I didn't know that. Thanks.
Dutch_12078
We sometimes find ourselves in locations where our Mobley/Connected Car Plan works, but our non-roaming Tracfone/Verizon phones do not. For that situation, we have VOIP apps on our phones that let us use the AT&T service for phone calls via WiFi. SWharton
We rarely make phone calls. We use the phones mostly for weather and email and other random things. Still need internet service though, even for wifi and we don't have wifi on the phones either unless linked to the Mobley. Just nice paper-weights right now. Pat & Pete
Often , we'll have ATT Mobley internet and no phone service . That doesn't bother us much as we leave our phone off , but for once a month or so DW calls her mother and the once every couple years I might call some stray soul for whatever reason . Goes around , comes around .
Dutch_12078
Much of the time I have the SIM from our Mobley in a Netgear Unite hotspot, so portability isn't an issue for us when we leave the coach. I also have a 5-volt USB to 12-volt ODB2 adapter that allows us to use the Mobley anywhere there's a USB outlet, including portable battery packs. That's not as convenient as the pocket sized Unite of course... SWharton
We keep our Mobley plugged into an adapter in the MH. Don't move it to the car. No reason to.
Lou Schneider
The Mobley has a setup and status screen, go to the local 192.xxx.x.x address on the label on the Mobley and enter the admin password. If you get the Mobile screen you'll then see what network you're connected to and the signal strength. If get the PC screen, click on Settings, then Network. The PC screen has more info than the Mobile, including expanded setup options and an absolute signal strength readout in dBm, not just the bars. SWharton
OK. I'll look tonight. Thanks
SWharton
I checked last night and I am on ATT, but very weak. I looked at an ATT map and where we are it is a donut hole in coverage. We are moving in a few days and everything will probably sort itself out. Smitty77_7
The ZTE Mobley can be 'finicky' at times. We had (Decided to scale back on Mobley, as we added other data plans to other services. So back to only one ATT Unlimited Mobley device.), two Mobley's for quite sometime. One of the Mobley's Sim we put in our Unite Explore 815 device which is MIMO capable, attached to a Roof Top magnetic Mobile Mark MIMO antenna. The other, we kept hooked up via the OB2 power converter combo. Many times the Mobley via OB2 powered connection, would reflect via 192.168.X a good signal. When in reality, it was 'a signal'. (And no, it would not be very helpful for data download usage:)!). At the same time, the second Mobley Sim in the Unite explore, with roof top dual MIMO Mobile Mark antenna feed - would reflect a lower signal strength - while at the sametime yielding Speednet Download Speeds 2-3 times faster then the Mobley with now roof top antenna, let alone, MIMO. So while we had both still working for us in our arsenal to the cellular data connection world - we'd normally ignore the Mobley's info. Only tapping into the Mobley if we detected cellular tower network traffic de-prioritzation, while over our GB usage for a month. (Maybe three times, I think, I saw a difference via Mobley vs Unite Explore with the same sort of SIM cared for out other Mobley - the bulk of the time, the Mobley SIM in the Unite Explore - had been our Download Speed champion... Hope your move to the next location get's things flowing again for you:)! Best, Smitty Be safe, have fun, Smitty 04 CC Allure "RooII" - Our "E" ride for life! LFDR3116
We have had many times that with either the Verizon jetpack, or the ATT Mobley, we have had data service when there was no cell phone service. This is one of the reasons we do not use our cell for internet access. We are currently 17 miles from a very small town - we have no cell service, but Mobley works well. There are data coverage maps that are different from cell coverage maps when you check the providers site. They are different. Pat DeJong
