bmzero
First trip out since the rally tomorrow! 200 miles round trip and it will be nice to not tow a trailer at snail's pace! Looking forward to the new ride with the loads on the rear to smooth things out. Now, that's what I'm talking about!!! I will probably side load a RZRS 1000, which is 106". I could probably get it down to 102" with some transport-only tires/wheels if it becomes an issue. Broncohauler
Watch where you put side marker lights on your bed. I think you can see mine ? 2 inch flush mount. They're right in the way of where I want to put my ramps. So the chrome rings I have around them keep getting broken. I never planned on sideloading anything when I built the bed. But I did make removable side rails for loading pallets with the forklift. They slide the same as side rails on a rollback tow truck and are held with pins. Also watch your hitch Height. Stock my rhino just cleared the fifth wheel hitch loading from the back. But with the long travel suspension it's wider and lower and just skims over the top of the fifth wheel plate. The razor and I think CAN- AM are going to be longer so you really need to be careful. As for the side lights if I did it again I would still use 2 inch LED but French them into the bed sides. CrazyCooter
Published spec on the RZR 1k is 119"? They are a tad longer than my Maverick in stock form. I got a bumper that tucked in tighter so I didn't have to pull it off every time to load it in the hauler. I'd never try to side load mine for a trip....I'd have a problem for sure! CrazyCooter
I have plate type to side load rhino. Just make sure you use a tie down 1/2 way up to keep them from spitting out. Home made steel for bronco. They fit in small cross over box at the bottom of the bed. I love your setup! Both trucks are sooooo clean! VegasFlyer
Ended up getting some ramps from a seller on Ebay. They were slightly longer that the ones from Discount Ramp, in stock, and $300+ less. Should do the job? http://www.ebay.com/itm/171823591537 I was on the fence which ends to get.....figured a didn't need full knife and couldn't really decide hook or plate on the other. Figured these would be most universal. Nice ramps that you found. What is the deck height of your truck? CrazyCooter
With air bags dumped the dove tail height is 43" with 51" deck height. I measured the angle at over 40° with the 60" ramps I was using. CrazyCooter
Not much room here.....Might not work. Hitch bag at proper height. Bag dumped....at least the arc swings away from the Jeep. Top Thinking it's time to calibrate the scales. I was thinking I had it close, but that won't fly! bmzero
Wow. That's a full load. Are you going to have enough turning/articulation clearance? Ramps look great. bmzero
Some small OD transporation-only wheels/tires would probably buy you some extra clearance. CrazyCooter
I'm not sure how much I can tweak things to work there. If I pull that grab bar, I can get 2-3", pull the front axle down with straps to the axle should gain me 2-3" without really stressing things..... My buddy suggested sinking the tires into the deck for a few inches in the past. Swapping tires is more work that I want to deal with as the whole theme of my camping is not to work on vacation. Have to play with this a little more as I'm not sure how the front cap articulates being in front of the pivot with the different movements. That Ti front cap that was a cool feature for a pickup is now biting me in the rear! dzlnut
I would recommend getting some heavier duty straps that have chain ends http://www.truckntow.com/cargo-control/ratchet-strap-components/2-winch-straps-w-chain-anchors.html with ratchets that have chain ends as well http://www.truckntow.com/cargo-control/ratchet-strap-components/vulcan-proseries-ratchet-short-end-with-chain-anchor.html also you should run the straps around your jeep's axles in a criss cross pattern, thats a much better securement point
CrazyCooter
I got one set of these: http://www.uscargocontrol.com/Towing-Auto-Hauling/Wheel-Nets-Auto-Car-Tie-Downs/2X8-Short-Wide-Ratchet-Strap-W-Axle-Strap-10-000Lbs .....and a set of these except with snap hook ends:http://www.uscargocontrol.com/Towing-Auto-Hauling/Wheel-Nets-Auto-Car-Tie-Downs/Side-Mount-Wheel-Net-W-Ratchet-and-Flat-Hook Those cheasy straps were what I used to hold the ramp from spitting out. I just put them on there as a little joke for you guys! I have always cross tied to the axles with chains/binders but decided to try the ratchet straps since they are lighter, quieter, and don't rust. I might even weld on d rings to the axles to make it even easier! I'm getting lazy and our goal has been no more than a 20 min setup/teardown.... This is vacation. AZStang
Just let the air out of the fronts on the Jeep. Looks like it would drop 6". Could do that with the rear too and leave the bar on the back of the sleeper.
GoldRush
How about a full profile shot that shows the whole bed, cab, jeep and trailer nose? You can cut the jeep out of the pic and articulate it on the rest of the photo and see what mod can gain you the most clearance.
CrazyCooter
I'll have to play with it when I have more time and the straps get here. I just had to pit it up there and see. BoonHauler and I were having a laugh last night when I told him how close I thought it was going to be.....he told me to leave the hood open! HERO Maker
I'm wondering in reality how many degrees of a turn it will take until you start "customizing" the corners of your trailer? I'm thinking maybe 30 until you have contact??? CrazyCooter
My problem isn't turning as much as it being close. The nose will pivot away. It just too close especially since the Flexair hitch anti-chucks too. Gonna take some more tuning before I give up. VegasFlyer
Did you have any flexing in the bottom of the ramps, when you were loading? It looks like your deck height is higher than the design height of the ramps, though your ramps look stouter than 3,000 pound ramps. CrazyCooter
I didn't notice any flex in the ramps at all. The seller rated these at 5,000lb per pair and claimed half knife ends were stronger for when you used then at a steeper than ideal angle. Time will tell I guess. I do know I didn't pucker one bit loading or unloading. The width and length are about right.
