Jim has back surgery scheduled for January 10 and will be out of commission for a month or so.

What is Jim having done? Spinal fusion? Where is he having the surgery.

Remember, I had spinal fusion in 2010. Hope his goes as well as mine! :P

Thanks for the good wishes guys. No fusion for Jim - and that's the really good news. He's having a minimally invasive laminectomy. He'll be in the hospital two or three days and may or may not need physical therapy. We were referred to this doctor by our good friend Faye who had this done. She was like a new person afterwards. The surgeon works for DISC - the Desert Institute for Spine Care. We have high hopes.

Bill and Jan are in Casa Grande. We're going down there for dinner with them tomorrow night so I'm going to try and show her how to use the map. Wish me luck. Or I'll ask her if she wants to be taken off.

You know that chalk that Jeri uses all the time. Well, it's now in my hand. We aren't going to make Q this year. And I am disappointed. But Jim has back surgery scheduled for January 10 and will be out of commission for a month or so. Even though it breaks my heart not to be able to join you guys, if Jim can walk again it will be worth it.

We can move the reunion! We're on wheels! what room is he gonna be in? laugh.gif

Linda - Sandie will respond to you but ... she and Jim are going to be heading to "Q" about the 28th of December for 10 days or so. Does your group normally park by the dump when they congregate? That's where we are going to be and hopefully she'll get a chance to meet some of your group too before they head back to Phoenix for the surgery. I think you indicated some of the 2007'ers would be pulling into La Posa South around the 1st. Look us up ... we'll be at the dump with lots of yellow ribbons on our mirrors. I found our supply from last year that was still tucked in where they didn't belong.

Linda - as hard as it is for me to say it, yes you'll have to take us off the list. Sorry about the cornbread and onions. We are planning to come over about the 28th and hopefully stay for about ten days. I really want to meet and see as many people as we can. That way Dave and Millie won't have to move to the hospital room.

Joe, did you get the doghouse fixed allright? You gotta "watch the hammer" until she heals up good.

Steve, yep got it fixed up and ready to rock. Turned out to be nothing more than a bad sensor. Way cheaper than an injection pump. However in my other travels I seem to have caught a nasty cold. Now I'll just have to see if I can't get to AZ in time to share it with everyone. Plan on starting to move the pin tomorrow.

I just got in from taking one of the cowgirls to dinner at the Italian Restaurant in Brawley, I about filled my self with bread and oil before the main meal came. I wonder if maybe I ought to order the main entry in a to go box next time. When they put that hot bread and flavored oil on the table I could care less about the main entry.

It was a fabulous day at the Slabs today. I went out driving. I was hunting for a place I heard about but couldn't find it. After talking to some others who had been there I must have driven right past it and didn't see it. I also went to a drug store and just for the heck of it ask the drugist if they still made Slone's Liniment. He said he hadn't heard of that since the 40's but found he could order it and ask if I'd like him to do so. I had picked up an analgistic cream so I told him I'd try it first. I also bought a Squishy that you can toss in the microwave and heat up before you exersize your hand with it. I tried it out and it seems to work pretty good. I'll know more about that tomorrow morning because that is when I really have the trouble with my wrist and hands. Maybe it won't take so long to get them working in the morning. I'm beginning to think that it isn't the carving that is causing all my problems because when I stopped carving the wrist got worse. I'll give it another week or so then start carving again. I miss the screeching screems I make when I step on a chip with my bare feet on the was to the bathroom at night.

Jim I'm putting in a good word for you with the man upstairs. I hope your operation is a success and does all you hope for. And I'm with Dave C on moving the January Meeting to you hospital room. I've never used a bed pan as a charcoal grill but it should work.

Ok, Jim, lets see now, if we rally in the hospital parking lot with say, 20 rigs and set fire to the bed pan to make a campfire it should be a great time. We'll make sure and not block the emergency enterance, and try to keep the generators quiet at night.

I wish we were closer to see you guys before all this takes place, but it looks like we won't be. I hope everything goes fine, and you are chasing fish down the ramp soon. At least it sounds like they found a way to get you some relief.

Jeri, thanks for the "heads up about Bill & Jan, I'll turn off my search radar when I pass through Eureka. Maybe we'll get to see them somewhere in Arizona. Steve

Not much happening around the Slabs today. The other day one of the crazies here got mad at someone that moved a little too close to his junk yard and set his own trailer on fire on purpose. I was out chasing cowgirls at the time so I missed all the excitement. We don't have much trouble here at the LOW slab but there are a lot of Crazies living over on poverty row. When I go to town I drive across the desert and thru the wash to avoid having to look at poverty row.

I went to dinner at the Buckshot in Niland tonight. I had two pork chops and a dish of apple sauce. I forgot to ask one of the cowgirls to go with me durning happy hour so I had to eat alone. I sure get done faster that way but it isn't near as fun. I guess I'll have to chase one of them down a little earlier next time. But don't worry, I won't step on my tongue and go head over heels like Shadowtracks did. I chase em but I don't catch em.

We will arrive in time to meet Sandie & Jim. It is our plan to be there on or about the 1st.

Our first year we did gather near the dump station..1st road to the right over 2 washs and on the right. However we found it a little dusty. I really won't know for sure where we will gather until we get there. But you could hold that place down until we arrive..Just go out and put a rock wall up around the whole spot :) :) :) I am sure that Sandy & Jim Allgire will be there before we are. See all of you soon. By the way I am trying to nail down some grills that will hold a soup pot size pan for the chili. Any in your crowd that you know of??

In the past we've gathered on the left over a wash and behind the trash bins. It's a big area but the advantage is that you can see the lines before you need to go and a short walk to dump your trash. Once you get past where the road ends it really gets dusty and dirty. I guess we didn't necessarily notice so much dust where we were parked due to all the rock in that area. We drove around the BLM yesterday. There are a lot of large open spaces close. Of course, I am sure much of this will change over the next couple of weeks or so. Sounds as though Jim and Sandie will be the first one to move onto the BLM.

I don't know anyone who has large cooking pot stoves just some barbecues.

I went back to the mud volcanos today and this time I found them. I had over shot the spot last time. After the mud we went to Brawley to get another turkey for christmast dinner while there we had lunch at the Chinese place. It was pretty good. The helpings were so big I brought dinner home in a box for tonight. Then it was back to the Slabs for happy hour. The weather was surwonderful and beautacious. Bright sun, No wind, 73 degrees and a good looking cowgirl to dine with. Now that's living. But I don't know if I was chasing her or she was chasing me. But it was fun.

Where am I? Well, the short answer to that is "right here", however that doesn't really do the question justice, and maybe I need to expand on that a bit  . With the combination of advanced age and all this moving around, sometimes the answer to that question is fleeting. Day before yesterday we came into California. At the border we had to stop and talk to the border people about what vegetables we were trying to sneak into their fine state <_< . Well the first thing the lady asked me was "where are you coming from"? I went blank, let's see now, I was at a casino, but where was that? Florence?, no that was an Elks club. Wait, I was at (what was the name of that town), Brookings?, no that was an RV park. Wait, Coos Bay! That was it! No, I was at the casino there, but I was really coming from that town on the border. Hmmmmmmm, oh yeah that was Brookings. Yeah that was where I was coming from  . I got this funny look like she was getting ready to look for handcuffs or call for back up. Then she said "where are you from?" At that point, Mars may have been the right answer  . I said "Oklahoma" finally after much too long a pause. Then she asked "what county"? Well, I had lived in the same county in Oklahoma for 30 years, but that's not the one that my "full time" residence is now. So I gave the wrong answer, hey at least I answered! We finally were turned loose, but I think they still were wondering whether they should have turned us away and let someone with more savvy into their state instead. Tonight, Carol asked "where are we"? and we both laughed so hard we couldn't even talk for 20 minutes. Dang it's rough being a full-timer!! Steve

I'm sitting in the Beaumont Elks this morning. Something got into "the Doghouse" yesterday and musta really twisted it's tail. We did about 3 weeks worth of Steve's traveling all in 1 day. :o However there was light at the end of the tunnel, managed to meet up with, actually they came and picked me up, Jerry and Janice for a great dinner. Then Jerry downloaded a bunch of stuff onto my GPS. Boy that thing is really gonna take me places now. I did my dead level best to convince them to join everyone in Q, but don't think I really made much headway there. Oh Ya WE talked about EVERYONE that wasn't with us.

The very first time we hit one of those stations and got asked the question we had no idea how to answer it. Minnesota? The next time the question was where are you coming from TODAY? That was much easier. The last time we were coming from a park just across the river from Parker, AZ. I reminded Dave before we pulled up that we weren't coming from Parker, we were coming from Earp, CA. That helped. Always try to be coming from California when entering California.

Another beautiful day at the Slabs, About the only thing I managed to do was go get some LP gas and my 7 gal blue container full of fresh water. It sure gets confusing when you get water in a blue container. You never know if you should be using that blue container tied to the ladder or the one sitting in the shower. I chose the one in the shower mostly because I remembered my rig don't have a ladder except for the one in the back of my truck but it didn't have a blue container attached to it. When I got back I put the water from the blue container in my fresh water tank then took a glass full to drink. The way it tasted I think I might have used the wrong blue container. It was loaded with clorine but by noon it had gassed enough that the water tasted good again or maybe I was just getting used to it. Anyway it was such a trying day I decided the only cure was to take one of the cowgirls out to dinner. I just got back.

IYQ, Do you take a different cowgirl to dinner each time? It could be hazardous to take the same one too much. Isn't that how you wound up married? I seem to remember you met your late wife through the LOWs. :)
