Frogman
Hi Everyone, I have a question on what gauge wire to use for the rear tail lights. I need to make a wire hardness or two and need to know what gauge wire to use. It looks like it could be 18ga wire. The outside diameter of the wire that is on the truck is 0.100" or a little less then 1/8". I will be using a marine grade wire. From the info that I have found,16ga wire outside diameter is 0.125". I want to order the correct wire. That is the main reason for the question. All input is welcomed
Steve from SoCal
I don't know what truck or type of lights you have but, on my 2005 Peterbilt the rear wire harness the wire is 16. I think it is more of an isue of voltage drop rather than ampmacity. Then good quality 16ga is plenty heavy. If you can find real copper rather than copper coated, it is worth the extra money IMO. Heat shrink the connections if you can. Quote I'm a work'n on it. Thank you everyone for the help.
