ddm502001
What was Old is New again. Caterpillar has a new engine program for literally New Engines for Trucks. Production has resumed for Replacement engines where ANY engine core is acceptable but the engine to be purchased must be of similar environmental controls type. C15s and C13s are being produced along with 3406E series for even older series machines. Have a Tired Cummins or Mack or Detroit, can swap out with core credit to a NEW Caterpillar. From the dealer where I procure parts. Dave
jenandjon
So, they are not building "new" engines. They are building more of the old ones? Yeah, from what I've read, they don't want to play the new emissions game, but are manufacturing replacement engines for those that are already on the road. Phil D
C13 and C15 engines are still in production for Cat equipment, so building a few every now and then in EPA04 or EPA07 on-highway configurations would be easily accomplished. The 3406E requires more effort on their part, but they're apparently anticipating good sales volume in order to keep a lot of older trucks on the road, so they're willing to make that effort, and the additional demand for 3406 components that results from the extended production helps them justify the cost of continuing to produce replacement parts for the 3406. Cat never stopped making the engines listed, they stopped building engines to the next on highway emission standard. The engines are still made and meet tier 4 emissions just not on highway. Think dozers, scrapers, excavators and the rest. The power generation and marine segments are massive in their own right. I kinda read this as a way around the 'rules' to support pre-emission trucks. There are no more glider kits so the engines would be for older trucks to re-power with factory new engines. I wonder what the pricing is going to be? Then there is the export market, Africa and the rest of the America's all have fleets of older trucks with far less rules about emissions than the US.
