georgiaschu
We are residents of Texas and bought a toad while spending some time with family. Our RV is in the shop for an unknown amount of time. The dealership we bought the car from in North Carolina insists that we must have the vehicle inspected in Texas before they can start on the DMV paperwork (title and registration). Meanwhile the clock is ticking on the temporary, 30 day dealer plates we have on the car. There is essentially no way we can get the car to Texas before they expire. Has anyone been in this situation before? I'm really reluctant to drive or tow it halfway across the country with expired plates.
Kirk W
If you are an Escapee I suggest that you call the Polk County Tax office where you would be registering it. Phone: (936) 327-6801 If not domiciled in Polk Co. then call the office in the appropriate county. Doing that will get you accurate information. homelesshartshorns
This is what the people in Missouri also told us, have to have inspection in home state. georgiaschu
I talked to the Polk County Tax Office, and they reassured me that we could use form VTR-270 instead of having an inspection since the vehicle is out of state (like we did with my car when we first established TX residency). Thanks for that advice Kirk! Now to get the dealership on board...
Second Chance
We are domiciled with Escapees in Texas and have purchased three vehicles while in other states (a truck and an RV in Georgia and a car in New Mexico). With the Georgia purchases, the dealers downloaded a form from the Texas DMV site attesting that the vehicles were out of state. We had to have them inspected the first time we were back in Texas. With the New Mexico purchase, the dealership was 25 minutes from the Texas border and the nearest Texas vehicle inspection station. We were required to take the car down to get it inspected before the dealer could complete the Texas registration and titling with Polk County. In all cases, the dealer(s) handled everything (except taking the car to get inspected, of course). dewilso
Escapees, once upon a time, had a step by step instruction package for out of stat purchases. I’m getting ready to run the traps again, but this time I’m in Livingston & the vehicle is in Kansas. Quote Dave W. KE5GOH Stuck in the 70's --- In E.
