lappir
Has anyone every had their cat use the "Litter box" while you are in the process of cleaning it? I had a couple cats years ago and only had a single litter box and I cleaned it once a week. ( Not enough and not often enough I now realize). I never had a problem though. One of the cat's would venture outside several times a day while the other one always got in trouble when she went out. I currently have a "Conventional litter box" and a larger one I "Built". It seems lately each time I start cleaning one my cat jumps in and makes a urine clump. Thankfully it's not the other. I do clean at least every other day as I find it much easier than trying to sift through more days of stuff. Rod
sandsys
We kept a litter box n the bathroom. If the cat came in while I was cleaning it he would use the bath tub. At least that was an easy to clean alternative. Linda
jbh
Re-marking the territory because you keep stealing the marker. 😁

If it was a complete change, I would understand. Last two times I cleaned she just came to sniff and that was the situation since rescuing her several months ago. It was only after 4 times where she decided to use it while I was cleaning that I wrote the initial post. Thank you for your reply. NDBirdman
We use a cheapie from WallyWorld. you just pick up the (insert?) inner pan and shake lightly. It lets all the unused litter fall through into the litter box in a matter of seconds. Drop liner back into the 2nd pan (it comes with 2) and pour the litter into it over the strainer. Quick and easy, don't have to scoop and too fast for kitties to jump in when cleaning. This is where we got our 2, most pet stores would have something like this: https://www.walmart.com/ip/Skemix-Sifting-Cat-Pan-Litter-Box-With-Frame-Kitty-Van-Ness-Cp5-Easy-Clean-New/134116876 Edited November 17, 2021 by NDBirdman

Looked for one a few years ago when my daughter rescued her cat. Couldn't find on in any of the local "Pet Stores" in the city. I do not use Walmart for anything other than a travel emergency. One of those haven't happened in several years. Thanks for the reply. Rod
lappir
I found the sifting litter box at a Mennards, it works well and I don't think I used it right in the 1990's when I had my first one. I like that I can use the sifter for the other two boxes and not have to buy new ones to replace. Two of them are covered, one with a door and the other not. One homemade and two not. hemsteadc
Cats are so funny. No, can't say I've had that happen, but since getting her a water fountain she drinks a LOT of water and the box gets dirty very quickly.
TXiceman
hemsteadc, if your pet is drinking lots of water and urinating a lot, you may want to get it checked for diabetes. Ken

She's put on a few extra ounces too.
gjhunter01
As soon as the cat uses the litter box the wife will clean it, there will be no stale cat mess in our trailer. Now our cat will only drink water from the running faucet and will slap at us if we ignore her as we walk past the sink. We have created a spoiled monster! I thought about getting one of the auto cleaning litter boxes but found them too expensive. I had a cat many years ago that would turn on the water herself if it had a lift up handle. I was living in apartments back then. When I bought my first house I made sure to put knobs on each sink. She got over it, especially when I found the "Pet Fountain" . I now have two types of fountains and so far my felines are happy. They both are very interested when I am cleaning the litter boxes. Truckman
We always had 2 litter boxes in the camper (3at home), and would put one in the truck for traveling. I cleaned them every evening, and always took the one to be cleaned outside (in the garage at home), so never a problem with interrupting the cat or vice versa. She would dirty the clean one often as soon as it was replaced.
