RWeigant Posted March 11, 2021 Report Share Posted March 11, 2021 I have an American Tradition 2013 as if it matters. I installed a Sani-con 500 turbo macerater that worked perfectly for 2 years. Lately it started to make a grinding noise. Then it blew a fuse. Replaced the fuse and it starts up for 30 sec then slows down to a halt the starts up again slow and blows another fuse. I'm thinking it's shot. Not sure I want to buy another $400 pump. I see on Amazon there are allot of maceraters a hell allot cheeper. Any you would recommend? I have tried to take the turbo apart. Kirk W Posted March 11, 2021 Report Share Posted March 11, 2021 It might be something as simple as a bind or jam that is causing it to turn hard. If you don't mind getting a little bit dirty, I would take it apart and see if it turns hard and if so, try to clean things up and lubricate things. lappir Posted March 11, 2021 Report Share Posted March 11, 2021 Often times it's something blocking the grinding mechanism causing a noise. Something accidently ingested that you wouldn't run through a garbage disposal will come out and find it's way into the macerator grinder. Cherry pits and some seeds are sometimes the culprit. oldjohnt Posted March 12, 2021 Report Share Posted March 12, 2021 NOT an answer to your question, but Ive seen videos of guys who take a standard home kitchen garbage disposal, adapt the input to accept an RV sewer hose, then of course use like a one inch flexible discharge hose to dump. When they plug it in turn it on and open the RV sewer valve it really goes to town and does its job.........You obviously need 120 VAC power to operate it which either an adequate Inverter system or onboard genset could provide. DISCLAIMER Im NOT saying yes or no to this, or how well it works or doesn't work relative to a smaller more compact RV specific unit, but it likely has more power and on the video at least does a good job. xctraveler Posted March 15, 2021 Report Share Posted March 15, 2021 I have an original Sani-con that is approaching 15 years old, if not older. It stopped once. A chunk of plastic from construction got caught in the impeller. Just took the impeller housing apart to clear it. I do hear that long hair will get caught in the impeller and bind it up. since my wife has very short hair and I have none we do not face that problem. RWeigant Posted March 20, 2021 Author Report Share Posted March 20, 2021 I have taken the motor apart and the impeller does move. The maceraters impeller housing comes off easy, but, the motor half doesn't. There is 3 parts to this. The grinding, the center and the motor housing. Apart I turned it on and it starts but stops after a minute. Then it will start up again after another minute. I'm giving up and buying another cheaper one.
