DJW
Ok I created new system image backups for both laptops today. With the 2004 build for windows 10 on both laptops now do I need to create repair/recover disks now? Dennis Quote USA Master Sergeant Ret.
DJW
Really No one thinks that with the new Windows 2004 build you should make a new repair/recovery disk? Dennis Quote USA Master Sergeant Ret.
Darryl&Rita
You don't need one. Until you need one. Why the hesitation to build a new one? RV_
Now we use recovery drives. I bought 3 16GB USB flash drives, then three more for six drives for each system. DJW
Thanks RV I already use a 16GB thumb drive for each laptop. I was just looking to find out your thoughts on creating a new one with the Windows 2004 build installed? Not that big of a deal. Dennis Quote USA Master Sergeant Ret. RV_
I use the repair disks just to boot then restore the latest image which will have your current version on it. DJW
So it should boot find off the original repair disk and then you can restore from the latest system image which has the 2004 build? Dennis Quote USA Master Sergeant Ret.
RV_
exactly. Much faster than doing all the updates assuming you keep images regularly updated. RV_
Me too. I try to do one on my main computers the Dell 2720, Surface Pro 7, before every semi annual major Windows update. I image the non essential and non backup systems a few times a year because all of them are redundant with the main systems. I have a lot of systems to image next Sunday/Monday. Then I think I'll try to force update the non-essential systems after imaging each. I believe I am selling all but the essential systems whenever this COVID19 pandemic defeated and vaccines available. So I'm likely keeping them all maintained another year. We don't allow anyone near us without masks and until we are back masking by law plus two weeks we won't go out or meet with folks. We have a big advantage here with three commissaries on Fort Carson, the Air Force Academy has the smallest, and Peterson AFB ten minutes from us. Why an advantage? Because no one is allowed in the commissary without a mask and at Carson they must also get a temp taken. So their masks protect Lynn doing the shopping, and she wears hers to do her part in protecting every other person in that store. We also have BX's (Base Exchanges - like military Targets) with the same no mask no entry, as well as the pharmacies which are the same mask policy. They also have liquor, gas stations, dry cleaners, yard and garden, and bunch of other things that mean we do not have to expose ourselves to selfish/political folks. I am serious about COVID19 as my background as a military Medic and later a military Med lab tech knows how this ends or prolongs.
