trimster
Anyone have experience or insights into changing a HDT to motorhome classification in Montana? Thanks
jkoenig24
Do you ACTUALLY live in MT? If not, Michigan attorney Steve Lehto has a very good YouTube video which CLEARLY explains WHY, just forming a Montana LLC to avoid paying taxes that would otherwise be due, is a problem just wailing to bite non-Montana registrants in the butt. I'm including a link to said video. If you ARE a Montana resident, the HDT Resource Guide will probably have valuable information: https://hhrvresource.com
trimster
Nope. Utah. Will do more research. Our son did it for 5+ yrs when he was a lineman. The 5er was his residence and it was in Colorado, Texas, Utah, etc. No issues. He did have a Utah address (ours) and a Utah DL. Maybe S. Dakota is a better option. bob
DJohns
Why change to Montana? Do you live in Montana?
rickeieio
Lots of folks have a MT llc to avoid taxes. Some states are cracking down. Kentucky has started checking registrations on Lake Cumberland, where there are LOTS of huge houseboats registered in MT. Personally, I wouldn't risk it, but then, our total rig is only worth perhaps $70-$80k. I might change my tune if I were buying new toys. LostSoul
If you want an answer to your question, it requires that your unit is inspected by a local LEO who signs the form. That is sent to your LLC office and they process the plates. I did it to avoid California. Mine was registered commercial in CA. It made sense to me to eliminate CA from my life when I went full time with no intention to return. My taxes were already paid. Incidentally, units 11 years old and older get permanent tags in MT.
