Brad NSW
Had a slow leak in L front steer. Ordered two of these: Polished Aluminum hub caps Only $30 and nice sight glass so you can check levels at a glance. 6 bolts, easy, right. Well the 6th sheered off. OK, drill and tap with a bolt extractor...darn they are brittle and hard to drill through. Snapped it off. Break out miracle tool (Dremel) and 2.5 hours later bolt is out... Fill with gear oil and presto - leak is gone. 2010 Freightliner, DD15 Eaton Ultrashift, 2015 New Horizons 5th Wheel. Brad & Jacolyn
Nice job. I have changed mine in the past. However, if you review the instructions I'm sure they did not mention the break off a bolt part.😀 Brad Brad and Jacolyn Tucker the Wonder dog and Brynn the Norfolk Terrier 2009 Smart "Joy" 2004 VNL630 "Vonda the Volvo" 2008 Hitch Hiker 35 CK Champagne Edition VED12 465 HP, Freedomline, 3.73 ratio, WB 218" Fulltiming and loving it. wtgeodog
A sharp tap with a hammer on the bolt head before attempting to loosen bolts when they have been exposed to road salts can usually break the rust bond enough to avoid breaking them off. JPL
Brad Sounds like you got back to SD only to find issues. But I sure like your fix! I had a cap covering the whole hub but I took them off and now they are in plain sight. A visual insp is done everyday. Hope to avoid any issues. But I do like your covers. Brad NSW
Yeah, wife called while I was in Norfolk and said front hub was leaking, so I ordered the new caps. ShortyO, next time the bolts will get a couple of taps with a hammer!! 2010 Freightliner, DD15 Eaton Ultrashift, 2015 New Horizons 5th Wheel.
