Ambidextrous Smart Winch Mount

Finally finished the winch mount for the Smart Car.  It clamps on either side of the deck, so I can load from either side.

Takes about 10 Minutes to clamp it on, using one bolt through the deck.  Electrical comes from a quick connect running from the battery, hanging on the back of the cab.

This weekend will be the first attempt loading the Smart Car....then it's off to Norfolk, VA for a 3 week course I run there, so no more projects.

Hi Brad,

Thank you for posting. Great idea. I have not done my winch yet. Do you mind if I can borrow your idea ?

Brad    If you are going to be here in Norfolk give me a call. 757 646 1686. I've been gone for two weeks and got back into town yesterday. Hope to leave today for Williamsburg. Will be staying at the Pottery Campground. Only for 4 days. So maube we can get together. Have a safe trip. Are you towing? There isn't much internet service up there so a call is better. Hope to see you soon and have a safe trip.  Pat

JPL, I'm flying out for a course I run.  Will call when I get in town.  Would love to see your rig and share ideas.

Al, I attached the drawing I made for the mount.  I made it much shorter than depicted, so it only overhangs 4-5 inches.

Hi Brad,

I have a question or too for you. I am looking at the pictures. It seems that you used wood for your 4 x 4 blocks, I'm I right ? And the 4 x 4's is sandwiched between two pieces of 1/4" steel plate.

Thank you for again help,
Al
