bags Posted May 2, 2017 Report Posted May 2, 2017 Does anyone have a recommendation for a second inverter to run my frig? 800 or 1000 watts should be plenty. Chad Heiser Posted May 2, 2017 Report Posted May 2, 2017 I installed a Magnum CSW1012 to run the residential fridge in my DRV while traveling. It is in addition to the Magnum 3012 Hybrid whole house inverter I have. I am happy with it. It is pure sine wave and can be found for a pretty good price if you hunt around. I found an open box deal on one on e-bay for about half retail price. I also added the remote switch and a 15 amp transfer switch to go along with the inverter. When I am traveling, I turn off the whole house inverter and turn on the small inverter. The transfer switch allows the correct power source to pass power to the fridge so I can use either inverter without manual intervention from me. It works very well. 2009 Volvo 670 with dinette/workstation sleeper - Walter 2017 DRV Mobile Suite 40KSSB4 with factory mods, dealer mods and personal mods - now in the RV graveyard 2022 DRV Full House MX450 with customized floor plan 2018 Polaris RZR Turbo S (fits in the garage) 2016 Smart Car (fits in the garage or gets flat towed behind the DRV when the RZR is in the garage) My First Solar Install Thread My Second Solar Install Thread & Photos and Documents Related to the build My MX450's solar, battery and inverter system - my biggest system yet! chadheiser.com West Coast HDT Rally Website
RandyA Posted May 3, 2017 Report Posted May 3, 2017 From my experience, dorm size 120VAC refrigerators usually need 1500 watts for reliable starts. Once running, they drop back to around 400 watts. If you are looking for an inexpensive but solid performing modified sine wave inverter this one will do the job extremely well. Great frequency and voltage stability. I have two of them and rate them above the average truck stop inverter. It has two positive and two negative connection lugs on the rear apron. A pair of paralleled 4 AWG cables for each polarity makes for an easy battery connection. It is missing remote control but soldering two wires to the existing inverter ON/OFF switch (inside) and bringing the wires out of one of the slots with a conveniently located remote switch works well. Jack Mayer Posted May 6, 2017 Report Posted May 6, 2017 If you want a cheaper pure sine wave look at the Kisea Abso line. Don Rowe usually has the best pricing.
