Driving Directions w/daily mileage limits

I became curious and ran a quick test of Furkot and Google Maps. Worked well on my tablet so I will extrapolate that it will work on the phone also. Not on the PC. Apparently you can export the route to Base Camp(not sure what else) and then onto the GPS.

I haven't used Furkot that much myself, but it's been discussed at length on a motorcycle forum I'm on and the developers seem pretty active on there. These threads may or may not help you, but I figured it was worth sharing. Lots of info in these two threads.

RVTripWizard.com lets you set your preferences including start date/time, daily mileage/time preferences, and other costs. Then as you pick your next stop, it gives you target concentric circles away from a point to assist you. In addition to the times, daily miles and estimates of daily costs for food, fuel, and lodging, it does give the arrival dates for each stop.

It does provide links directly to RVPARKREVIEWS.COM for places you are investigating.

It also uploads to GPS for navigating.

Since Undertowsoftware.com discontinued their RV Plan-N-Go program, it is about the next best thing.

See this for an example:

That is an app/site that I was not aware of. Thank you very much for posting it.

  • 5 weeks later...

I have found a free trip planning site called mysenicdrives.com that has what I was looking for. This site will allow me to input my miles per gallon,my speed as a per cent of normal speed, and split my directions by hours per day or mileage per day. It also has an option to show you campgrounds or motels around the stopping point.

I just tried the GS software but it doesn't allow for maximum hours or miles driving per day, and although it shows warnings for low clearances etc it doesn't re-route you to avoid them as there is no way to enter your vehicle details. With the GS/Rand McNally GPS it does re-route you but I can't find a way to set maximum miles/hours on it either.

It wouldn't calculate a route from Maine to Florida unless I let it use toll roads, just returned an error message "Can't calculate a route"

All in all I thing the GPS does a better job because it will tell you the distance/time to your next set point if you want it to.

I didn't try exporting the GS route to the GPS. That I suppose might solve the low clearance problems.

It's easier just to put it directly into the GPS.

Delorme Street Atlas is still available at Amazon.com for $40, free download or by shipping a CD. May be shipping charges.

Even though it is not going to be updated, it will be many years before enough roads change to make it unusable.

Also there are overlays available for SA which display an icon on the map for Walmarts, including a separate icon for those which don't allow overnight parking, if that matters to you. Additionally there are overlays for Costco, Sams Club, Days End locations, and many more.

I use SA extensively for planning my travels.
