Dutch_12078
I had a spare Novatel 4620LE flashed for unlimited Verizon 3G at $5/month by Mobile Solutions about 3 months ago. It has been working fine as a fill-in to limit the usage on our 20GB/mo 4G/LTE Jetpack to avoid overages. I can't speak to the monthly renewal yet, since the included 6 months of service won't expire until the end of October. With typically 2-3mb download speeds, it's adequate for general browsing and even YouTube videos without major buffering. I've also recently started using a ZTE 915 hotspot also from Mobile Solutions that uses a $35/mo unlimited 4G/LTE plan from SimpleMobile on the T-Mobile network. M-S is offering the service with the device purchase at just over the dealer discount price, counting on volume to make up the difference. The 915 works quite well in those areas where T-Mobile has good service, but the Verizon devices are still our go to choices for best coverage. M-S is also coming out with a $99/mo unlimited 4G/LTE Verizon plan, but I don't know any details on that setup yet. One caveat if you order from Mobile Solutions: The owner is a one man shop, and the sales volume and his "day job" sometimes interfere with his order processing and shipping. Each order requires individual programming and activation before shipping, so patience is strongly advised. He has shipped everything I've ordered, but sometimes it takes a longer than I would like. That said, the wait has been worth it...
wildmandmc
a lot of apps need/run on 4g. i was looking into smart talk from walmart but noticed they now have "totalwireless' uses verizon towers, 2 phones w/8gb shared is $60 + tax. Mark and Dale Bruss
Before we switched to 4G, we noticed that as 4G rolled out, 3G got lot worse. Unlimited bad is not a great thing.
Dutch_12078
I am aware that Verizon is repurposing some of their 3G installations to 4G/LTE, but so far we've seen little degradation in 3G availability or speeds as we travel. For the small investment in flashing an otherwise unused spare Jetpack, we've probably already recooped our investment in saved overage charges. I expect the unlimited 4G/LTE T-Mobile setup will eventually replace the 3G Jetpack as we find more locations where it works well. Or the $99 unlimited Verizon plan will replace them both as well as our 20GB plan. We'll have to see how that plan looks when it's available... voyaginator
Yes, all major carriers are upgrading from 3G to 4G/LTE to stay competitive. In terms of data plan, depending on your location and how much travel you plan to do, check Google Project Fi (T-mobile is part of it). I found their data plan (10, 20, etc. GB) with roll-over from month to month allowed to be a good deal for travelers.

Had never heard about it and had an unused JetPack so sent it in for reflashing. 3G is not a problem for my purposes so this may just be what I have been looking for. Hard to believe he can provide this for $5/month.
LFDR3116
Looked at the Google Project Fi, but the $10 rate per gig of data is more than we pay for our 4G service with Verizon.
Dutch_12078
Looked at the Google Project Fi, but the $10 rate per gig of data is more than we pay for our 4G service with Verizon. Yep, I looked at it too, and my current 20GB plan is $5/GB with $8/GB overages, so a better deal. I don't know if the new Verizon carryover and throttled no overages features apply to my plan yet. Of course the unlimited Verizon 3G and unlimited T-Mobile 4G/LTE plans I mentioned earlier are even better yet!

Dutch_12078
Glad to see it's working well for you, Dick. I see he also has the unlimited Verizon 4G/LTE plan on his site now at $89/month with the equipment purchase, but I haven't looked into that in detail yet. Tom_M
I also purchased a JetPack from Mobile Solutions. It worked great for two months then on Aug 14 it would not connect to the internet. I contacted Travis via email at Mobile Solutions and was told to send it in. I was traveling at the time so I waited until I returned home to send it in. He turned it around quickly but it still would not connect to the internet. We exchanged a few emails but was getting nowhere. I finally convinced him to call me and he decided to exchange mine for a new one. It should arrive Tue. Sep. 6. Here's a lengthy thread on cheaprvliving.com: http://www.cheaprvliving.com/forums/Thread-Unlimited-Verizon-3G-5-a-month Some people have had problems dealing with Travis at Mobile Solutions. It's a one-man show and he is quite busy. The thread mentions some other options if you choose not to deal with Mobile Solutions.
kountryguy1
I just received a 4510L device from Mobile Solutions. He answered all my questions that I emailed him almost immediately. Shipped it as promised and included a tracking#. Once I received it, I was having trouble getting it to work. A couple of emails later, still no luck. I sent him my phone number, He called me when he got home and spent almost an hour getting me up and going. I could not have expected better customer service. It has only been a few days, and so far I am very satisfied. Thanks Travis.
Tom_M
I have yet to receive the replacement Jetpack from Mobile Solutions. Travis has not responded to emails or text messages since I last spoke with him on Sep. 1. Up until then he has been quite responsive. Needless to say, I'm getting a bit worried. The Jetpack worked great for 6 weeks and then acted like the subscription had run out. I had good 3G signal and was able to connect via WiFi but have no internet access. Dutch_12078
I spoke with Travis on the phone a couple of days ago, and he has just hired someone to help with getting orders out and keeping track of his text messages. Hopefully that will help get things caught up soon, and he assured me that everyone will get their orders as quickly as he can get them out. Keep your fingers crossed that it works! He just shipped me a hotspot with a new unlimited 4G/LTE plan that will cost $60/mo. As soon as I have sufficient testing data, I'll report my results. The $35/mo T-Mobile unlimited 4G/LTE plan that I've had for a month or so now, works well when there's a good T-Mobile signal, but the coverage is still pretty spotty.
