Nine days in USA - Riverside (CA) to Riverside in early September

We are about to do our fourth trip in our USA based motorhome which we keep in Riverside, CA.. Due to other commitments this year we only have 9 nights available in our motorhome. We are flying into LA on 04 September to collect our motorhome, and are looking for an itinerary which does not involve more hours on the road than enjoying the destination. We are planning to rest and have been looking for a focus such as a music festival or similar but have not found anything that suits us. We have done three previous trips - 3 months in USA & Canada, one month in USA centered around Colorado, and one month in Baja California. This year we are undecided between USA and Baja California - does anyone have any suggestions given our limited time frame and our desire not to spend hours and hours of driving. We are happy to sit beside water (pool/ocean) and soak up some sun,read a book, play some music, drink some wine and rejuvenate and will look at a combination of RV parks, National Parks and boondocking. Constructive comments welcome.

That would be my choice too.

 

N.B. Yosemite is spectacular and VERY popular. Either book early [ 12.01 am on the day the sites are released can be too late ] or understand how the non reserved sites work and get there early for one.

 

Coarsegold RV park is a good stop en route. One of the nicest parks we visited.

I've hit all of those options multiple times this year (currently live in the Bay Area, so they are relatively close), and would also highly recommend all of the NP's within driving distance. I would also throw in Tahoe or San Luis Obispo (Pismo Beach, where you can take your rig onto the beach and camp), Santa Barbara, or just about anywhere on the coast north of LA.

Less than an hour from Riverside. We know the producers and they put on a quality music event. You could RV in Temecula at a number of places but its on the 24th

I agree with LindaH also I would recommend Tuttle Creek in Lone Pine,CA. It's a BLM Campground http://www.blm.gov/ca/st/en/fo/bishop/camping/tuttle.html

 

My wife and I go there several times a year. It's kinda Primitive but it's quiet and if you like to fish there is a stocked creek running right thru the middle of the campground. Also it's inexpensive $5.00 a day.

These would be easy to get to.

While I think of the same sites as Linda, none of them are likely to provide a place to sit by the water. I think that if I wanted to sit next to the water, I'd start with the CA State Parks website, searching for parks with beaches and camping.

In your "time frame", the one festival that comes to mind is the

DOHENY DAYS Music Festival returns to the whitewashed sandy beaches of South Orange County on September 8th & 9th. The festival features an eclectic mix of music and embraces the eco-conscious beach/surf culture of SoCal. Over the weekend, festival goers enjoy 20+ sets of music on three different stages, eco-friendly attractions, tasty food & drink selections, and a huge vendor village.

Great music, wonderful Food, Fun, "Frolicking", and just a generally good time can be had.
