These folks have an interesting website, that seems to deny their presence in one of the nicer RV parks in the Traverse City area of MI. They are just a few spots down from us, with full hookups and they have been there for several days with no signs of moving or of conserving anything. I wonder it they really do burn cooking oil, or is that also part of the publicity for those who don't see them here?

They did sell the bus and bought their present motorhome to replace it. I assure you that it is parked just a few sites from us right now.

If they have to stay in an RV park they dont get it yet. We boondock most of the time...probably could teach them a thing or 2.

When we were in Alaska in 2005, we ran across three boys from Virginia Tech that had bought an old Mercedes diesel that they converted to Bio-fuel. They left from Virginia and were at AK when we saw them they had spent $ 100 on diesel at that point. They ran diesel until the car warmed up, then they had a converter in the trunk that changed over to "Old Grease" that was warmed from the exhaust, strained, filtered then burned. The exhaust smelled like . . . . French Fries.

It was interesting!

THEY camped in tents. Which were strapped to the top of the car since the trunk was full of gizmo es . They even smelled like they were from the eco womb.

Phew!

I knew a guy who ran his Ram pickup/TV on used cooking oil, partly. He filtered and filtered and filtered and ran it about 10% fuel. Today we just call it biodiesel.

It worked fine for him for years but he eventually decided that the diesel-fuel cost saving wasn't worth all the futzing around.
