The Class-less Class

Florida is more dollars than out west. After Jan. 1 it will get crowded. We have reservations made from Nov. through Feb.

It is but using the Thousand Trails parks in November plus half of January and then, February we have our monthly average down under $500 a month and that even counts the time we'll be in the Keys the first part of January. We have reservations pretty much in place until mid-February now.

the best time to visit Texas is in the springtime when the wildflowers burst out... Lockhart Texas is a must stop if you are a smoked BBQ fan as they host 4 top tier BBQ joints that are often listed in the top 10 of all of Texas. February will still be pretty dang cold in most of Texas so you may want to stay in Mission a bit longer... You will love the tamales down there though!

Liz, Borrego is one place we've never been. Don't know why, but whenever we were in the area we were in a hurry to get somewhere else. Maybe this year. Steve

As for Borrego Springs... we have spent time there the past two winters and really enjoy the area. Tasty oranges and grapefruit, and nice farmers market each Friday. Some good info on the Wheelingit blog if you search Borrego Springs and Rockhouse Road area. We will probably be there around mid-December into the new year. Sounds like we may have a gathering in Borrego Springs in the making :) Also like the Ogilby Road area, west of Yuma but still in CA... were there last year with Tina & Jeff and Carol & Steve, and Nancy & Dave stopped by for a night. Lots of good boondocking in the desert southwest! Be well, everyone!

Ok, the menu for tonight is "Chateaugay spaghetti"! For the uninitiated, it's an old recipe from an upstate NY hotel that I got from my mother! The only trick is getting to Arlington Washington by 7:00 this evening.

We have been having fairly heavy rain most of the day. I got my walk in early this morning with no problem. Now at 4:30 PM it has stopped raining but lots of puddles. The temperature only got to 60 degrees today.

I've been to Borrego Springs many times while staying at the Slabs in past winters. I really like the place. The town took over a BLM area about 5 miles East of town and did away with the 14 day limit. I have not stayed in that old BLM but have visited others who were staying there. They loved it. The area has a lot to keep you exploring. They even have a slot canyon and a Badlands but don't attempt the road to the badlands overlook unless you have 4 wheel drive. It's about 5 miles of deep sand up a wash. There is a 4 wheeler BLM South of town that is very popular and the area in the state park, practically in town, has about every kind of Cactus you can think of. It's very pretty especially in spring when everything is in bloom. And don't forget all the Iron sculptures (statues).

We spent some time in Borrego Springs for the first time last winter and really enjoyed it. In fact we plan to revisit again this winter.

Haven't been to Borrego Springs. We keep talking about it but we talk about going a lot of places we never get to.

Map updates --

Liz and Randy are now on the map but need an email from them.
In order to be fair and consistent regarding posting on the forum, we will be removing a few off the map within the next day or two but we'll certainly miss them and hope they'll change their mind and decide to remain part of our RVfamily by starting to actively post again. If you know them, give them a poke. We want to hear from them ... November 1st is rolling around.

Borrego Springs is a great area. The visitor center is very nice and interesting. I believe they said the mountain sheep some times come to the center at night for water. The sculptures are great and scattered over a large area, Also some orange, lemon and grapefruit groves that have been abandoned around to pick some fruit. There is a real nice RV park with a golf course in town, kinda pricey thou but nice. There is a lot of BLM land to boon dock as you come in from the Salton sea side.

Well I think J & J along with J & T teamed up to send their rain from Florida to Oregon last night. Dang wind is howling here and the rain is coming down sideways. Oh well, the Maritime Museum in Astoria will be dry and warm today. :P And the food will be good at the Rogue Ale Brew Pub also.

It looks like the moon and the clouds are going to cooperate and give me clear dark skies at the Cosmic Campground Sunday night. So I'm leaving here tomorrow morning for Deming to reload and pick up my friend who wants my telescope. I'll probably only stay Sunday night at Cosmic Campground because the weatherman says it will be in the low 30's at night up there. I don't have enough battery to run the furnace all night. I had Jimmy's RV run a load test on it when I came back from City of Rocks and it showed right on the line between green and red. That's about as boarderline as you can get. It may just be sulphated but I don't have any way to Equalize it in this rig until I get solar and a big inverter/Charger.

The sun came out here this morning after raining during the night. So, I put the awning out to get it dry then got piddling around with something alse and didn't notice right away when it started raining again. I have it out again trying to get it dry but the humidity is so high I don't think I'll be successful. Oh well I'll try again tomorrow.

We simply showed interest in the RV Port homes and let a salesman give us a tour. I since have read that they offer 3 days pretty much off the get go for looking but because we already had a week reserved he gave us the entire week. We even paid a deposit because we didn't intend to stay free and he even had the deposit refunded. Can't beat that with a stick. Heck I know they would let Tina look and MAYBE EVEN YOU!!!

Unbelievable. We are doing the Natchez Trace. The first stop coming south is Merriweather Lewis boondocking area. It is just gorgeous. Sites are huge, many are pull throughs. Paved roads and sites. Each has a table, a camp fire and it's own garbage can. The park host and the park ranger came to greet us within a couple of hours. We may be here the whole allowable 14 days.

The internet is a bit spotty but I can deal with that. There are 9 tv channels and all the networks are included.

LOL!!!

Was it the Cal-Am park? We went to the Grand Opening back in 1/2012. We were only 2 months into this adventure and had no interest. One day we will land somewhere and I'm pretty sure it will be west of the Mississippi.

Not sure what kind of refridge you have. We have a Norcold and you can't just replace the seals. We checked into it a couple of years ago. You need to replace the whole door.

That is not what I wanted to hear. We have the Dometic. So guess I will have to check into it further.

We have been talking about coming to Quartsite this Jan. but not sure at this time. Will know when it gets closer. We would love to see everyone again. We had solar put on so have been wanting to try it out.
