Freddy & Delcie
I took the truck in for an oil change today. After three hours of waiting for it I was charged for rotating the tires which I had told the service guy to skip. When I checked the air pressure I found two wheels on one side with 70 lbs of air and the two on the other side with 65 lbs of air. That tells me they didn't rotate them properly and that they don't check the air pressure after they do what ever rotating they did. I think this will be the last time that truck goes into a Che vy dealer. I trust independent garages one heck of a lot more than I do dealers. It ended up costing $108.00 for an oil change and filter. I bet it wouldn't cost more than 60 at my favorite garage. The diesel does take a lot more oil than a gasser but 108 bucks is robbery. Well now that I got my gripe for the day off my chest I'll sleep a lot better tonight. Maybe I should take a little medicinal cranberry juice just in case.I had our oil and filter changed at Quick Car for $86.00. Had brake pads and one rotor at the chevy dealer here in Paducah and they charged me $780.00 I felt like that was at least double what it should cost elsewhere. IYQ
It turned summer suddenly. It got up to 86 today. Last week we were having trouble getting out of the 60's. I had all the windows open and the fans running. Nice day for taking a Steve. I set my telescope up last night to take a look a Mars and Saturn. Seeing wasn't very good especially down near the horizon. But I could see the polar cap on Mars. Mars was at opposition last night so it looked larger than it will be in the next two and a half years. I had to wait until after 11 PM to view Saturn. While it was down in the atmospheric soup it was just a big fuzz ball. High up it looked pretty good but I couldn't get much magnification with out it looking like a fuzz ball again. All the light pollution around the park here wasn't helping either. Next Monday night there will be a total eclipse of the moon. For mountain daylight time it will start Monday night at 10:54 PM but you won't see much change until 11:58 PM when we start into the Umbra. Totality will begin at 1:07 AM Tuesday morning. Now all you party animals have a reason to have an all night party. You can howl at the moon all night. IYQ
Big deal today I took a chance at getting scalped and got my hair cut. It looks pretty good but I'll wait until I wash all the glue out to see if I can still comb it. At least Animal Control is off my trail for a while. This evening I went out to Forgetaboutit Pizza. I didn't order Pizza because the gang will probably want to go there tomorrow night for LEO. (Lets Eat Out) I had a chicken strip basket instead. The basket was kind of tough and taste like wood but the chicken and fries in it were good. And that's about it. I just can't think of anything to gripe about today. steved44
Well, we got our son married off Saturday at the old train station in Norman Oklahoma. We also managed to get most of our out of town guests gone before the weather turned bad. One couple was with me in the truck on the way to the airport when the hail storm hit. The wild ride of mr. Magoo!! We did have three groups of them at the airport at the same time and two of the three flights were delayed by weather. On the trip to the airport the temp went from 85 degrees to 62 and the hail and wind started within about 5 minutes, so we gave them all the "Oklahoma experience" for sure. The weather was great for the wedding, 78 degrees and a balmey wind, so we lucked out on that one. Still have a trip to the airport today, but it's 35 degrees and a below freezing wind chill so what a change. Wanderin
Tell me about those storms!! We left Llano a day early because the weathermen were warning of severe storms with strong wind, hail, t-storms and possibility of tornados. We didin't know how far we'd get because the ridge of the storm was heading where we were. Winds weren't too bad most of the way so decided to go to Fort Stockton. We really got into some strong gusts during the last 60 miles but Wal-mart kept their light on for us. The wind howled most of the night and temperatures dropped to near freezing. It's amazing how that forecast keeps getting changed from one time you look at it to the next. This morning gusts were forecast in mid-40's through the Guadalupe Mountains but we figured we'd at least move up the road about 50 miles. That's what we did. Winds don't seem bad now but through the mountains who knows. Either way we're happy to be here and will head out again tomorrow. There weren't too many on the road this morning. I think most everyone just parked it. However, we are about as filthy as we've ever been as we're carrying reminders of the rain and dust we went through getting here. IYQ
The weather is clear as a bell out there tonight. Great for watching the eclipse but it's going to be a little on the chilly side. They are saying mid thirties. I guess I'll put on all my coats at the same time and keep the coffee pot a perking. IYQ
I'm happy to report that the Earth and Moon orbits are right on schedule. I stayed up until 2AM watching the Eclipse last night and needless to say I'm not too chipper today. The blood moon finally turned red after the eclipse became total. At first I though it might only be a dull grey but it turned red about 1:15 AM. While I was sitting here this morning I heard a faint knock on the door. It was Jeri wondering if I was alive. We visited my shop for a while then jumped in the truck and headed for the Adobe Deli for lunch. When we got back Jeri and Terry took there jeep to the car wash and I went back to holding my head and snoozing in my chair. Now that it's time for bed I'm all snoozed out so will probable be awake all night. Tomorrow Mike and Julie are going to be here. We should get some serious talking about the rest of you guys in.
