Wanderin
Said "See ya" to Terry and Jeri last night. One more day for us at Three Rivers Casino and then we head inland. First to Sutherlin to take advantage of their "three days for the price of two" offer and then Red Bluff and then on to Park Sierra for a week. Yep, we decided to get out of Dodge ... IYQ
I just got back from diner with Sue & Paul ( soos) . Now you know why your ears are burning. We had a real nice talk. They rolled in to the Ranch just before happy hour. While talking to Paul he mentioned that they didn't stop for lunch so we left early for diner. They will have some stories to tell around the campfire in Q. Great folks. Wanderin
We slithered into California today. They didn't even check us for fruits and vegetables like they normally do at California borders. We haven't seen any snow or ice. All that cold stuff is now behind us. We're finding these casinos pretty nice places to plant ourselves for a night or two. Parking is free and it works. palamine
We are at the SKP park in Sutherlin and I must tell you, it's a really nice place. The people are really friendly and the park is beautiful. Great laundry. I know that we will come back this way. We have been researching free spots, casinos etc from Sutherlin to Pahrump. Anyone got any gems. Apparently Baldini's in Reno is no longer a gem, really bad recent reviews. We found Carson City Nugget Casino and will go with that. Thoughts? IYQ
I took a cowgirl out for pizza last night. I saved half of my pizza for breakfast. When I got up this morning the was no pizza. I must have left it lying on the counter when I payed the bill. It can't be old age. I'm only 19. Oh well I'll go out tonight and get a steak to console myself. Toni - we just stayed at Baldini's three weeks ago with Diana, Phil, Barbara and Ron. Absolutely no problems except the planes landing are noisy. The Carson City Nugget is a small parking lot. We stayed there a couple years ago and there are lots of people who stay there for long periods of time. Diana and her group stayed there last month. Beatty - the Exchange Club Casino (I think it is) has some parking. Lots of BLM around there also. We also loved camping at Walker Lake near Hawthorne. It's $6 a night for boondocking. IYQ
I set a record today. I didn't even start the truck. This place is jam packed full of rally goers and I know most of them. I did a lot of gabbing and catching up with what everyone has been doing. One of the cowgirls I ran around with up in Eagle Nest is due to come in Tuesday. I'll have my hands full trying to keep them all happy. IYQ
About 3 days ago I received an mail from the company I ordered the telescope from. They said they had canceled the order because of payment or shipping issues. I called them and asked what the problem was. The said it was because the ship to address was an RV park. I explained the park and the fact that I'm retired and travel full time. They said they would send it back to the accounting department for re-considering and I would get an email within 72 hours if it was approved and if not approved I'd get a phone call saying so. Well I haven't got an email or a phone call. So I guess I won't be getting that scope. Now I don't have time to order it again so I guess the star parties are out. If that company calls this coming week I'll tell them where to stick their telescope. Wanderin
We had a similar situation when trying to order a laptop for Terry. However, it was from Newegg and they didn't like our billing address showing a PMB number. To begin with they kept cancelling the order so I ended up ordering it there 3 times with 3 pending charges on my AMEX before I finally called to find out what was going on. The customer service person told me they would resubmit it and I'd have to go through their approval department but they'd get back to me within the hour. I got called back 4 days later saying that I had been approved to buy from them. However, too late as I had already ordered the same computer from another company and got it about $75 cheaper. It was their loss and my gain. Quote Just Wanderin' On a permanent vacation! http://blog.willywagon.net

IYQ
I went up to City of Rocks State Park to inquire about their star parties. They have them scheduled for 2, 23 and 30 Nov. I think I'll go to the first two but will be in the slabs by the 30th. I'm still trying to decide whether to order a scope from a different company or not. If i do I just won't put the name of the RV Park in my address. They know me well here and would accept it for me in the office and bring it to my trailer. The more I think about it the more I wonder if I'd get much good from it because my eyes just are not what they used to be. So that would leave a lot of the faint fuzzies (deep space objects) out of my viewing and I can look at the moon and planets just so much and they would get boring. There are a few of the brighter Nebulae that I might find interesting like the Orion Nebula. I'm tempted to just buy a spotter scope like I had planed in the first place to look for bears and elk up at Eagle Nest. You can get a good look at the planets with a spotter scope also. Today I talked with the man that is starting an Astronomer's Village about 20 miles north of town. His credentials are longer than any telescope I could buy. He had a 42 inch Dobsonian in the observatory he built in his back yard and builds smaller dobsonians for other people including one that folds and stores inside the box that holds the reflector. A 10" Dob folds to a size you can store in an RV compartment. He sure was interesting to talk to and he took me around and showed me his observatory and shop. I very enjoyable day. palamine
Long drive today (327 miles) from Sutherlin to Susanville, California. Route 89 is a very pretty drive. Not much traffic. High but not too twisty. Happily ensconced at Walmart waiting for our TV dinner to be done and then watch a movie. IYQ
I spent the day twiddling my thumbs. I'm getting rather good at that. The gang here went to the pink store down at Palomas Mexico. That isn't my cup of tea so twiddling was the next best choice. I may drive over to Las Cruces tomorrow just to have something to do. steved44
Had a great evening campfire with Tom, Dianne, Dave, Nancy and Carolie. They were camped on BLM land, west of Moab, overlooking this beautiful valley and we watched the sunset with snacks and a bottle of bubbly! Couldn't have been better, except we could have been camped there too. We were about 27 miles away, and I thought the wolves were going to get us before we made it out of there. They are going to move closer to where we are the end of the week getting ready for the big folk music festival coming up. Sure is nice being part of this "classless class"! palamine
Sorry friends, hope you weren't worried about us. Spend the worse day on the road yet yesterday. Stupid GPS took us this incredibly high, narrow, winding road out of Reno. We ended up in Virginia City and believe me, you never ever want to go there with your rig. I will blog it later because... We are at Walker Lake, Nevada. Beautiful empty campsite on the lake, however, no phone, no internet. Drove into Hawthorne today to use WiFi at McD's. Stressed me out. First day in 4 years that we had not contacted Graeme. Of course, he is absolute fine, not worried at all. Going to stay here until Friday and then to Pahrump until Halloween. By the way, there is a huge Army Base here with 237 sq miles of ammunition storage buildings. This is where 7 Marines were killed in March 2013 by "accident". Oh my. Anyhow, we are safe and happy. sandsys
I'm somewhere in Oklahoma. Have been heading toward OKC for days but haven't made it yet. Winds are too strong for my comfort level. May drive the hour and a half to Grand Casino tomorrow and sit there some more to keep from paying $30 for a third night here. I liked the first one at $15 PA rate. At least I can dump and fill right here in my spot before leaving so I'll be good for another week on the road.
