HighwayRanger
Moving our junk from the old Itasca motorhome to the new DRV Mobile Suites. Already have the truck ready to go to work. We will take the new rig on our shakedown cruise right after Labor Day, then we're off to San Diego for a wedding. After that, we'll return to NorCal to vacate the house fully, and off we go! Sweet! Jaymalea
We accepted an offer on our house last week. Bus is mostly packed up, house is mostly cleared out. We have a few last minute projects, but will hit the road as soon as the closing is completed! Woo Hoo! Jaymalea
yourpcgeek49
Huzzah! Our house has finally sold! (Well, it is under contract.) We ended up discounting the price about 15% from what we really wanted, but it's sold! We already have "most" of the stuff out of the house except the furniture - and my Son is going to take that. Judith's last day at work is 10/16 -- and we plan to hit the road 10/17. We hope to see you all on the road. Jaymalea
We signed the papers on the house yesterday, removed the last few items and hit the road. Well, sorta! Yesterday morning, 15 minutes before leaving for the title company we opened the battery bay and found one of the batteries was boiling! It had failed, on our last day in the house... So, instead of heading to our riverfront RV park in the afternoon, we had all of the "pinto" batteries replaced with "cadillac" batteries. An expensive start to our full timing , but well worth it. We're heading off today for a week in the river, three days of that is a rally with our local FMCA chapter. Jaymalea
SRPearson
Does any one know when our class graduation get together at Quartsite is? Is it the third or forth week in January? We beginning to plan our winter travels. The last two weeks we were in Livingston becoming TX residents. We are now traveling west to get out of the high humidity and temps. We will be touring northern New Mexico and Colorado for the next 4 weeks before we head back to Arkansas for a conference. We are enjoying the ride. 2007 Country Coach Allure 470 and pushed by 2010 Chevy Silverado 1500 4x4. We are now on the road seeing this great country of ours. Let the fun will begin!!!! yourpcgeek49
SloPoke, are you going to get this coordinated? We will be volunteering at Casa Grande Ruins National Monument December - mid-April. We have 4 days off each week, and Quartsite is only 2 or 3 hours away, so we certainly can join the party! Just let us know what week! Our house is SOLD (closing before 9/25) and empty (thanks to my son). We have been living full-time in the 5th wheel for about 6 weeks and have "almost" everything we brought from the house stowed - and there is still a fair amount of room in the basement! Judith has had her 2nd cataract surgery & I have mine this Tuesday. My last regular working day is 9/30 and Judith's is 10/16. So on 10/17 we plan to pull out of the campground and head South -- visit some family in Florida; then West to Livingston to become "real Texans", then on to Arizona. If any of you are near Casa Grande this winger, we hope you will stop at the Ruins and introduce yourselves! SRPearson
Thank you for asking but we were not considering being the coordinators of the "Class of 2015 Rally," just asking a question, so we can make our winter plans accordingly. We will let someone else have the distinction of heading up this get together. 2007 Country Coach Allure 470 and pushed by 2010 Chevy Silverado 1500 4x4. yourpcgeek49
OK everybody... I don't have the local knowledge to feel confident as the "Class of 2015 Rally" coordinator. I did some looking with my good friend Google and found that the Sports, Vacation, and RV Show runs January 16 - 24, 2016. -- http://www.quartzsitervshow.com/local-quartzsite-information/future-dates/ The folks from Wheelingit suggest that they like to stay a little ways away from the center of the action (the four corners), out about 6 miles at Dome Rock BLM. (http://wheelingit.us/2013/01/25/the-biggest-rv-gathering-on-earth-quartzsite-az/) That suits our style more than being in the thick of the crazyness ... but that's just us. Also, we will only be able to come over for 3 or 4 days because we are volunteering at Casa Grande Ruins. But maybe this will get the discussions rolling a little more. What does everybody think & like? vt3fan
Well, it is done. House sold and we have now been on the road for just over 2 weeks. Been to South Dakota and got all of our residency things done. Then spent an enjoyable week in the Black Hills. We never realized just what a really awesome area this is. Did all the tourist things: stayed in Hill City, ate at The Alpine Inn, did Mt Rushmore, Crazy Horse Memorial, Needles Highway, Iron Mtn Rd. Also did some fly fishing. Now on the road. Currently in Cheyenne, WY on our way to Durango to visit friends in the area and then on to Albuquerque for the Balloon Fiesta. Life is good. SRPearson
We were too busy cleaning out the house to be nervous. But, now that we have been on the road for four months, we are glad we did it. We just had a great week with Scouserl41 here in Santa Fe. Next stop is Pagosa Springs, CO. scouserl41
It's not nervousness it's excitement! And yes it does take some patience to get everything done. We left before the house closed! Luckily we could do it from on the road with the way closings go in CA. And it was fun Slowpoke! See you guys in Vermont. SRPearson
Well, I did my first proverbial "OOPS" today. I got a feeling it will not be the last. When we left the camp site this morning, we had to hook up the toad (Chevy Truck) out on the main road, blocking most of it. While rushing to connect it I forgot to hook up the second safety cable........NO the toad did not come loose from the coach. But the cable hung down low enough for the road to chew the cable in half. Well, tomorrow I will construct a temporary one out of chain before I go over Wolf Creek Pass. Other than that, It was a great ride with lots of beautiful scenery up to Pagosa Springs from Santa Fe. Brian (Scouserl41), did you stop at the brewery on Hwy 160 in Pagosa Springs?? If not, I will send you a report after we visit it tomorrow. Enjoy the ride! 2007 Country Coach Allure 470 and pushed by 2010 Chevy Silverado 1500 4x4. Bill&Cindy
We are enjoying the fulltime life (4 months). Spent the last three months hosting at Birch Bay State Park In Blaine, WA. It is a great park with a great staff. We are leaving Monday. The plan is to follow US101 to Eureka and cut over to Sacramento. After Sacramento, we are headed for Las Vegas and then home (Galveston). We should be there the first week in November, if we don't get distracted. The fulltime life is all we hoped for and we are now planning the next twelve months. The biggest lesson has been that planning and hurrying aren't necessary. Safe travels
scouserl41
Hi Scott (slowpoke), The first tie we were in Pagosa we were in the timeshare resort right behind the brewpub. In fact there were 2 brewpubs 1 on each side of the road. We had great difficulty getting out o the resort! We have had several Ooops's! The latest one just yesterday. We drove off and left the fresh water hose at the last campground. Luckily it was on it's last legs anyway and we already had the replacement ready in the locker. 2009 Monaco Cayman DP 38' bnbrv.blogspot.com/
HighwayRanger
Well, we've moved ourselves into the new fifth wheel near our stix and bricks. We've taken a couple of trips up to Oregon and down to San Diego so far, but now it is time to ditch all of our stuff so we can vacate the house by November 1st. At that point (a scant 2 weeks away, now!) we will be official vagabonds! Lisa W
April of 2015 we went on our first HOP to with Escapees to Southern Texas. When we came back we decided not to move back in the house. We stayed in the RV through getting ready to auction all of our belongings, the auction, and getting the house ready to put on the market. On October 5th the house went on the market and we left to visit relatives in California. We have definitely graduated to full time status, and love it. yourpcgeek49
Judith retired last Friday (10/16) at about 2:00 PM -- we were on the road by 3:10! Spent a couple days in Charleston, SC, and a couple more in St. Augustine, FL -- both beautiful cities. (Will be updating our blog in the next couple days with pics & commentary). Now we are spending a week in a campground near her sister's home in Winter Haven. We let the calendar & our commitments drive our schedule last week -- but we already see that a more leisurely pace will be a happier schedule for us. A couple minor mishaps as I am becoming more experienced driving the 5er -- 55 ft. overall connected length. Cosmetic dings, but nothing that affects the functioning or road-worthiness of the unit. We Wally-docked in Parkersburg, WV, and were warmly welcomed there. We asked at two Walmarts near Charleston & they both said "no". The third one we decided that "it's easier to ask forgiveness than to get permission". We had a knock on our door at 12:30 from the Security Supervisor to tell us that they do not allow overnight parking, but he let us stay the night with the promise that we wouldn't do it again. Has anyone else run into Walmart stores backing away from the RVers welcome policy? scouserl41
Some stores don't because it's either against local ordinances or they don't own the parking lot (in places like malls) and the parking lot owners don't allow it. Some have signs up saying "No overnight camping" yet people camp there! Other useful places for free overnighting are casinos. We've stayed at quite a few of them. Some give you a free buffet if you join their "Frequent Losers Club" we don't gamble but we've enjoyed their hospitality. 2009 Monaco Cayman DP 38' bnbrv.blogspot.com/
SRPearson
We are within 2 days of completing our great circle trip. We left Livingston 7.5 weeks ago heading towards Northern New Mexico and Southern Colorado, which was not only cooler but dryer (less humidity). We found it once we got to Palo Duro Canyon, south of Amarillo. It was onto Whittington Center in Raton; at 6600 ft. elevation, it was definitely cooler. Then we headed down to Santa Fe to meet up with BnB for a week. Next, we stopped at Pagosa Springs in southern Colorado. We took a day trip to Durango. There we took the Durango-Silverton Narrow Gauge steam train. Everyone should have that trip on their bucket list. The canyon was amazing. After that, it was on to Buena Vista, which has four 14,000 ft. peaks around it. It was here that I blew a cooling hose that goes to the Turbo Charger. We had to wait an extra 3 days for the local diesel mechanic to get to us. But we didn’t mind it, because we loved it there. We made a mad dash across eastern Colorado and Kansas to Independence, MO. After a week with our daughter and granddaughter we headed south to Heber Springs, AR to my NRVIA conference. We are now in Hope, AR at the county fairgrounds. Tomorrow, we continue onto Livingston. We are enjoying the ride 2007 Country Coach Allure 470 and pushed by 2010 Chevy Silverado 1500 4x4. We are now on the road seeing this great country of ours. Let the fun will begin!!!!
