  1. Good you caught it, lack of retainer pressure could have broken the compressor mounting.
  2. Or the old Double Disc Injection pumps Cummins used. Had to drop those to get compressors off.
  3. Klein makes and sells a premium lineup. Used both in Garage and in the Power Station.
  4. Only issue engines out there are the Detroit's, mounting the compressor on the bellhousing seemed weird to old mechanics as I.
  5. Is still there, the old STL Streetcar building that housed the Auto trades was all rebuilt and the entire area sealed off 'From the Neighbors'. That area of town has regressed far further, owing to the nature of HUD Ownership 74% of the homes are now either vacant or completely gone there. Went back for Graduation of an ex Neighbor's daughter, still not a pleasant place to be in or get to.
  6. Local Trades 'College' has had Instructor ads for the last several years, are considering reducing the number of Classes available for the Trades citing other schools have better levels of instructors, yet that is a "for Now" condition. I went to David R Ranken Trade School in St Louis, 1970s, to which the last classes thru my line of courses went from 10 months crash course to a one year both Cert programs, then a two year AS Degree ended in early 2000s with lack of entrants to the courses to continue the offering, that as the entrants were unable to meet the Collegiate side entry qualifications. I actually drove to that Local school at Linn MO yesterday, spoke to the HR people, they were quite amazed at my qualifications of 45 years HOWEVER noted No Degree even as could consider my time in industry as a portion of a degree they COULD not hire me given the Schools REQUIREMENTS. Just prior to leaving HR Office I asked how the current classes were faring, their response was limited success as the instructors are quite capable of Classroom skills the technical side was suffering. I then asked if they actually heard what they just stated, thanked them for seeing me and explained had wasted enough of my time there.
  7. Been working with local Sign Shop, decal type labeling for the Blue Beast. License is on, getting a few odds and ends finished out where STILL trying to get the wife to pick a Trailer, NOT doing so well as she insists that we have to wait. Had to have a Second Cataract surgery as Good eye became jealous of Bad one that got a lens some two years ago. That one erupted full on in six months. Eye doc is not good at retaining bad news, let me know have between 10-15 years will be losing sight where may no longer be able to even drive. Hope to have signage on in a week.
  8. If just dirty or starting to oxidize, Mothers wadding works, a small low speed buffer and rubbing compound is a alternative. As I got my project truck, all the rims had been Inner positions so were beyond nasty, ended up using a DA Sander, started with 180 moved up thru grit to 3000 then swapped to a heavy buffer. Some of the accretions deposited by road grime, brake dust, salts and road chemicals get so hard little will touch it beyond sanding it away. I used Zephyr buffing system on a variable speed HD Buffer but is not for everyone. Requires a Respirator and full body suit as painters wear as is beyond FILTHY.
  9. Could be relying on one of the two circuits under light applications. Have someone else LIGHTLY apply brakes with wheels Chocked and Parking brakes release, listen and look for actuation as brakes apply, may only be Steer or Drives on light apply where on Parking go full spring application. With parking applied, Slack Adjusters should not rotate beyond 90 degrees to Chambers.
  10. Best choice of most mechanically inclined. Patches end in misery.
  11. What burns me to the quick are those schools that will not hire previously tenured Mechanics with a defined Well Adapted history as instructor or even mentor as "They Have No Degree". I was a Certificate graduate of a leading trade school, cannot even become a instructor there even as My instructors were NON Degree carriers as I have asked, several good friends, long term hard advancing workers also looked to enter training for the Next Generation where previous experience was extensive would be infinitely helpful. Got to sit in on a class where a Education Degree individual was teaching, the lack of ability to answer student questions other than to state "will see that when enter the market" as a Avoidance answer. We had enough Parts Changers and unable to diagnose trainees in my day, has expanded vastly in the last twenty years. The ones I have major issues with are those that can do nothing without installing Electronics equipment for "Diagnostic Time", not all problems are electronic.
  12. Nothing like a Rats Nest to make a fun day!!
  13. Had to get a rig serviced on the road a few years back. Sat in that same driver lounge when the shop foreman walked up, noted engine had a problem, Stripped oil pan for drain plug. So asked to see the plug, when handed it over, all the pulled threads were balled up at the base of the head so asked when his ace tech was going to install my new free oil pan, as he evidently did not now On from OFF on the impact he used. Guy looked at me as I pocketed the plug, saw the scars on my hands, asked how long I had turned wrenches. Said never mind, would have it done by end of day. Supplied the car for me to go into town and enjoy myself as well. Service job got completed No Charge and I left with a new aluminum oil pan in place on a older 3406E.
  14. The Eaton Style Chinese Handcuff fittings are a bugger, the longer in service with dust and dirt migrating in the dash or around leaking HVAC ducting the worse they are to release, a can of Computer/Electronics Cleaning Air is your Buddy here. A shot or two with a little lightly soaped water, allow to soak then the magic air.
  15. Typical Micro Switch has a Common Center Terminal, a NO Terminal and NC Terminal, DOES make a difference if want system to work, also interferes with Cruise when get there if wrong.
  16. Check the Yokohama lines available. they are actually manufactured in NC, Carcass quality is outstanding and pricing generally good. For longer term wear is not going to slick areas a Straight Tread steer tire type will last longer, Closed sidewall drive lug tires second and open sidewall lugs last on the lists.
  17. Exhaust Brake should be a Disconnect Switch on Clutch. On the old Jakes were three connection points also where One(Usually Center) was Common, one end was NO or Normally OPEN(That is when switch is in Relaxed State, IE Pedal Away from Clutch Pedal applied) and the other connection NC or Normally Closed same position. With pedal in normal operating position check with a Ohm Meter Center to each end, then apply the Clutch and check those Continuity points should have reversed. You Want the one NO to Center and the Center as to normal connection. Again NO when Pedal is Depressed, and closed when pedal in driving full up/released position.
  18. Hate to say around here is all about politics. Local individuals want to change a feature to a home in a small town with inspectors, they make the calls, get the approvals that take FOREVER as to reviews, validations, etc., then do their own work only to have to 'Correct' a number of mostly Cosmetic concerns to reach final sign off. Contractors licensed thru that same town get Carte Blanche and a few get a blind eye for really crappy work. Signed off regardless end result where the individual's cosmetic issues look like master repairs in comparison. Pretty sad.
  19. What it boils down to is these schools are taking the place of State Inspector required Driving Tests. Here in MO should one take a CDL test at a license center 90% fail up to three times, buddy of mine at the Nuke needed one and this happened to him as he failed the pre trip inspect twice due to NOT Vocal enough during walk around, where then took a training class at a Community College, written test passed at License office, Driving test WAIVED due to Instructional hours behind the wheel at the school, license issued. Dave
  20. Agree with the above, some trucks it reuires a Wiring Diagram as some do not color code to a set standard but their own. Three wires on a Hi/Lo beam one has to have continuity to ground Unplugged, the other two power off dimmer system while unplugged.
  21. Sounding more like lost ground
  22. It also states no matter what state is registered in later in the vid. Random Screening can end with fines by CA against out of state registrations.
  23. Well this takes ALL questions away and determines ALL machines entering CA will be required to meet CA emissions laws regardless of state of Residence.
  24. SO Glad have only a Standard Stick, Start in any gear I want to!!!🤪 Dave
