  1. We saw many new RV owners that did not have a clue as to what to do in freezing weather. I tried to tell a few well before hand what to expect. Some listened, some chose not to listen. Ken
  2. I always love this comment. The truck is not designed to stop the towed trailer load. The trailer has brakes and they have to stop the trailer. Ken
  3. Those that have not lived in Texas for the past 50 years have no idea of what has happened here. All they have to offer is opinions and wild-ass guesses. Ken
  4. Sounds more like from the other side. ha ha Ken
  5. You also get a cooling when you force a high pressure gas across a control valve or orifice. Look up J-T cooling or Joule-Thompson, Ken
  6. When you let high pressure liquified natural gas down to a vapor state, the temperature is extremely LOW. This is how air conditioning works at warmer temperatures. The condensed liquid refrigerant is reduced in pressure and you get a refrigerating effect. There can be some water vapor in the gas and this can freeze in the control valves. Also, if the control valves are not properly insulated, the water vapor in the atmosphere can freeze on the cold valves and prevent them from working properly. Ken
  7. 24 percent is wind power. About 56 percent of Texas' energy comes from natural gas, just under 24 percent comes from wind, 19 percent from coal, and almost 9 percent from nuclear energy.
  8. The problem with the natural gas is when it is let down from high pressure to a lower pressure you get a refrigeration effect and the temperature drops. There is often moisture or water vapor in the gas and this water will freeze in the control valves and thus the freezing. I have been a proponent for nuclear energy for years. We can build safe and efficient nuclear plants if the greenie folks would understand a bit about science. As part of the total energy solution, we need to have a mix of solar, wind and fossil fueled plants as well as nuclear. Fossil fuel needs to be phased out slowly. Ken
  9. Several cities around us have ask people to NOT drip faucets as it will cause the water pressure to drop to low levels and then they are forced to issue a Boil Water notice. Well it happened, they have all issued boil water notices. With the power off and so many running out of propane, how are they to boil water now? We are still operating off of our fresh water tank for now. Ken
  10. Park where we are has told us to drip faucets and protect their outside hose faucets. Even went to far as to suggest that WE buy a heat strip and wrap THEIR faucet and plug it into electricity that WE have to pay for. The city is telling people to NOT drip faucets as the water pressure will drop too low in the system and then they will have to issue a boil water order. Our normal procedure is to fill the fresh water tank, disconnect and put the water regulator water filters in the basement to prevent freezing. So what do we do to handle this? The parks water supply is a plastic pipe about 2 feet long attached to a 4" x 4" post. Ken
  11. WeBeFulltimers, from my experience with a new 320, a new RV would have the 320 yanked out and put in the nearest dumpster. Maybe the older ones worked, but the newest are just JUNK. Ken
  12. Personally, I do not feel the heated hoses are worth the cost of effort. The hose does not protect the faucet or water source. If on the rare occasion that we experience weather that can freeze the hose, I fill my fresh water tank and disconnect the hose and drain it. I also close the gray tank and make sure I clear the sewer hose. Water filters go in the basement for a couple of nights. If I need more water or drain my tanks, I can get the hoses hooked up again. Ken
  13. Your internet speed on WiFi totally depends on the bandwidth of the host or provider computer. As more people get on line, you will slow to a crawl. Most parks have minimal bandwidth. You best bet will be a hot spot with unlimited data. Search and you will find many threads on WiFi. Ken
  14. Chalkie, seems the older 320 model worked better than the current ones. Maybe they changed the design or cheapened it. Ken
  15. Wow, what an experience with Dometic and the highly rated model 320. It is touted to have a bowl sweeping rinse. Yes it will if you use the hand sprayer. After lots of fussing with Dometic service, they finally agreed to replace it with a cheaper toilet with no compensation for the cheaper toilet. I had ordered it from PPL Motorhomes in Houston and they agreed to refund my money. Dometic PPL them and told them that they would not warranty the toilet to them as it worked properly. It did not measure up to their advertising literature. At least PPL Motorhomes is an honorable company and looks to customer satisfaction. In the long run, I decided to repair my old Thetford Style Magic Plus with $50 worth of parts again. Stick with the devil you know. Ken
  16. We got our FIRST COVID shot today. Had to drive 45 miles to the appointment, b ut was well worth the drive. Ken
  17. On a forum there is no such thing as free speech. Just like in my house, you say something I don't like, out you go. I was Moderator and Administrator on an RV forum and we had 3 rules that were not to be broken. No religion, no politics and no firearms were discussed. They always wind up in a fight. Ken
  18. I wish this forum would restrict firearms discussions. The always represent opinions and hearsay and not facts. Ken
  19. Any ham radio operators near you? Ken
  20. We have noticed that PA, over the past couple of years have become more restrictive as to days of the week that the Pass will work. Certain holidays and seasons are blocked out as well. In addition, we see the quality of some of the parks in the system has dropped. I doubt is we will renew PA next time. Ken
  21. HA ha. Reminds me of a couple of RVs we had. One was a class C that the bathroom was so small that you could sit on the toilet and brush your teeth, literally over the sink. Another small class A ....you had to open the bathroom door in order to stand up and pull up your pants. Yes, you need to be sure you can fit into the bath room. Another thing is what is often referred to as the "first timers bed". The bed stuffed up in the corner next to the bathroom and has a corner lopped off to have a pathway to the bathroom. One thing that we tell newbies shopping is to visit lots of dealers and politely tell the salesperson to get lost and you will find him when you have questions. Now sit in the RV, play house in it and pretend to fix a meal. Where will the dishes and cooking utensils be placed? Where is the pantry. Next try on the bathroom, Will you fit in the shower, where are the toiletries stored, where are the linens, etc. Next is the sleeping area. Where are clothes stored, can you easily access the bed? And finally, relaxing for the evening. Can you see the TV from a comfortable position, or do you watch sitting sideways? Is there adequate lighting for reading? But do not forget about storing outdoor chairs, fishing gear, a grill, etc. Have fun looking. Ken
  22. When we looked at TT, they could only promise a site and could not guarantee a 50 amp site. This was a definite NO for me. Ken
  23. Hard to tell someone what is best for them. As for manufacturers, I'd start by looking at Lance, Northwoods or Arctic Fox. I would stay away from Thor and Forest River products. Winnebago now owns Grand Design. Take a flashlight with you and look in the back of and behind cabinets to see how they constructed, wired and plumbed. Stapled cabinets are not good as is the faux plastic covered wood-look particleboard cabinets. Ken
  24. When we still had a sticks and bricks home, you could always tell when we had the sub on the route. They were late and the mail was misdelivered. Neighbors were out taking mail to the proper boxes several houses down the street. Complaining dis zero good. Ken
