  1. We all see what going with the CHEAPEST bid can get you. I was in a highly technical sales for 30 years and was seldom the lowest price bid, but I prided myself in being the best design and cost balance for the application. Ken
  2. The recreation.gov is confusing to use at times compared to the old site. They need to fire their site developer. Ken
  3. The one law that cannot be avoided or changed, even by stupid state laws and lawyers, is the law of physics. Put simply is it takes more force to stop more weight. Granted a 3000# car behind a 30000# motorhome mat seem insignificant, but a braking system in the towed cat that can stop you 6 inches sooner can mean the difference between a safe stop and a wreck. Additionally, a towed vehicle should have a break away system on the rare occasion that the tow bar should break from the towed car. It will prevent the towed car from continuing and causing a wreck. People try to use the argument that a towed car is not a trailer. Most motorhome manufactures place a limit for towed loads without brakes and some are as low as 1500#. The motorhome has no method to tell whether it is towing a 3000# of rocks on a utility trailer or a 3000# auto. Going the cheap route is not worth the safety and lives of my family or others' lives. If you are going to tow a car, pay the money to get a properly set up brake system and break away system. We have a friend that had her 5th wheel hit broad side and destroyed by an old farmer that was speeding and had a large tractor on a gooseneck trailer. Among the several citations he received from the state police, one was for not having brakes on his trailer. ken
  4. Arctic Fox has a good name and reputation. Our daughter and family had a Winnebago Minnie Plus and never had achy issues. It was a better build quality than any of the Forest River and Thor products they had looked at. Ken
  5. Nissan Versa, with the manual transmission. Ken
  6. Is the Red Knob the battery disconnect? Is the trailer hooked up to shore power? Have you checked the battery voltage? Are the jacks mechanical or hydraulic? What motor is spinning? Ken
  7. Money can cause family problems. You need to have very definite plans on what is left. My less than financially responsible brother that would spend two nickels if he had one, managed to talk my mom into changing her accounts over to him and her will to leave everything to him. I am sure he has blown through what she had left him. He has not spoken to me since she died. Ken
  8. Being 1947 models, we did get to enjoy a few years of the more carefree style of camping and fewer crowds. Ken
  9. WE currently have more than enough for a comfortable life and intend to enjoy the remaining years. We told our daughter to not plan on any inheritance as we plan to spend as much of our money as possible. Slide into home plate with a beer in hand and a big smile on your face. Ken
  10. Kirk, Our Big Foot jacks did not state popping until they were a couple of years old. The previous trailer had an older generation of Big Foot jacks and no issues. There must have been some changes, but the Anti-friction fluid fixed it. Ken
  11. I had this issue on my Big Foot jacks and after talking to them, they recommended Lucas Light weight Fork Oil for motorcycles. Since Big Foot has a pump and tank at each jack, I removed a pint of oil from each jack and added the Lucas oil. Then you run the jacks through several full-length travels to get the Lucas oil distributed through the system. No problem s since. Ken
  12. Before you waste money on a recharge kit, you need to find the leak. Ken
  13. The best answer will be to call them at the HQ and ask? Ken
  14. Don't ever call them or fill out the online forms. You will be hounded by them for years. Ken
  15. Kirk, I guess Polk County has slow readers at the clerk's office. It only took 3 years of me returning the form with the exemption of over 70 box checked to be excused. Seems it took the last time, but I will wait and see. Ken
  16. I am right there with you, Ken
  17. I have replaced several roof top units by sliding them up an extension ladder. The old unit can just be tossed off. Ken
  18. franco-bolli, Wha works for us is a container that was a frozen food package in the freezer. We have a residential fridge, so plenty of freezer space and tuck it back in a corner behind other stuff. This does give some protection against a fire. Ken
  19. I can see why the stores want a $100 or $125 cut off for fuel, but with the high cost of fuel, $100 does not come near filling a tank. The newer trucks Ford Superduty trucks have 47-gallon tanks. And then most of the pumps will only let you run a card twice before it is not accepted. Then you have to switch to another card. I have a 37-gallon tank and a 40-gallon auxiliary tank, so at 50 gallons plus, I hit the pump limits. I pity the folks with the HDT and class rigs that take 100 gallons plus. And I do not trust taking my card in and leaving it out of my sight with a minimum wage clerk. But with fuel cost, it really pays to shop, use any and all discounts and rebates available. Shoot, before the fuel cost went so high, I would drop the trailer in the parking lot so that I could get the truck into a pump, fuel up and then reconnect. Ken
  20. My last jury summons I went online and filed my exemption and have not heard from them. I did call to make sure the good old 'puter worked. Ken
  21. Yes, we pulled some extra cash out in case there are problems. Ken
  22. While hosting in Texas state parks, we always had issues with the folks that arrive late and depart early. We tried to make an early pass through our area as well as a late pass and leave pay reminders with their license plate circled on the form. Some of the parks kept track of them and would go after the repeat offenders. The other issue was "squatters". They came into the park on Sunday after lunch and would move into an empty campsite after paying the daily use fee....not the camping fee. Most moved on, but a few had to have the ranger come and talk to them. Some of these clods were frequent offenders. Saw one that the ranger escorted him out of the park, and he put them on the "blacklist". Ken
  23. In our 9 plus years full-time, we see Ford diesels as the most popular truck for towing heavy. Next comes Dodge/Ram and Chevy/GMC is a distant third. But in the past two years we have seen an uptick in the number of Chevy/GMC trucks towing heavy. I don't know if it is the fact that they have pushed their ratings up or people just fall in love with the fancy tailgate. Ken
  24. I give up on letting elected officials know my opinions and thoughts. All I ever get back is a form letter telling me what a great job they are doing, asking for money and nothing to do with the issue I wrote about. I am retired and just reset my clocks and as for programs we watch, we generally record them, and time shift so that we can skip the mindless commercials. Everyone should figure out that the politicians are only worried about reelection, once they are in office. Ken
  25. I agree that some sites need to be held back as reservable, but not site specific. Trying to come into a park for just 5 days is getting to be impossible unless you booked months ahead of time. You find sites open for a day or two and you have to move for two more days and again for another day. I'll go to a commercial park before I pack up and move that often. You see people bragging about booking 13 months out into 2023 to snag their favorite spots. Shoot, we barely know where we will be in a month or two, forget about next year. Ken
