  1. For over a decade we were Red Cross Volunteers in our home town. When in town one week a month we were on call 24/7. We did this for the good of the community. We belonged to several organizations: Quilting(we made Quilts of Valor for the vets); Golfing(volunteered at many USGA events), Model RR Club(had a Christmas show at the local library that attracted 4000 people each year in one weekend). Food baskets, clothing etc for the needy. We thoroughly enjoyed all these opportunities we had to assist other people. I feel sorry for people who feel they must be paid for whatever they do. The US has a strong volunteer backbone, possible these people are from overseas and don't recognize that is somewhat ingrained in our culture to volunteer. Just look at when we have a disaster, everyone pretty much assists as best they can. Just look at the Cajun Navy as one of our newer innovations for volunteering. We live a fulfilling life with our volunteering, the satisfaction we receive from volunteering is not measurable by money.
  2. I just went on the DTV website and logged in. I haven't been on the site in a long time and didn't realize that DTV finally had "chat". The other thing I noticed was in upper right there was a "Travelers" option. I clicked on travelers and DTV is acknowledging that DNS available and other than S&B people use DTV. JPERRY29: You mentioned a special RV 800 number. First I heard of this, would you please share the number with us. Thanks.
  3. We don;t look at the locals so have no need to change service address. Our RV antennae works fine if we want to look a locals and we have a TIVO to record the locals if needed.
  4. What Beemergary mentioned about not feeling safe is very important. You don't want to get pushed around by the rig. I assume the Toyota does not have the trailering options so you need to consider that. I would try to go with the lightest rig that you can live with so you don't overreach. What the car mfgs. say can be towed and what really can be towed are not the same. I would do a lot more research on your towing capacity before buying anything.
  5. I would get the PMB and start the process of moving everything to your new PMB now. It is surprising how many addresses need to be changed, even with a long check list we forgot a few.
  6. We use our Livingston address for all our financial institutions including Vanguard, Merrill Lynch and Morgan Stanley. No problems whatever.............
  7. I agree about the light for the shower. Also, if you are tall the skylight gives you additional head room(think resale).
  8. I read about rid-a-rat.com, suppose to work on mice.
  9. We are switching to 12v AGM(that is all that will fit) due to a poor location and no slideout tray(cannot be installed). Twice I have left the water get too low since I needed to remove the batteries to check them. Going with Sams club AGM(Duracell) due to price($179) and have upgraded the remote so we can better monitor the batteries. Challenge was getting enough batteries. We needed 4 and had to go to 2 different Sams Clubs.
  10. We rarely use them though we have friends that only stay at KOA if possible. We just found them overpriced in general for what you get. We stopped staying at them 40 years ago. Stopped for the night with our children: pool $; extra people $; showers $. Yet saying that we stay at one that is very reasonable for being close to a major city. Then we always stayed at 2 parks for the night over traveling in the winter, both became KOA and raised their rates $15/night. Too high a premium. We also had a steady PPA cg that we would stop at, dropped PPA, next year was a PPA cg again. You can control where you stay to save $, you can save some money on gas to save $. You don't have much control over food costs.
  11. I am posting this for anyone else who asks this question. I have decided to punch holes in all my bags and get this https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01GHS8P2I/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 to hang the bags on. I have tried rings in the past and found they have a tendency to open up. Then I found a smallish duffle bag, with pockets on 3 sides. I am going to put the threads in the main part and all my xstitch supplies in the pockets. I am not sure how much space I will have available but I am hoping enough to keep a project or 2 in the bag. Because it is soft-sided I will be able to keep this behind my recliner. This is all theory but it sounds good to me.
  12. I have been looking for better size boxes. I carry around one of my bags to try them out. Most just have too much dead space so are inefficient. I'll keep hunting. At this point, I am still leaning to the hole in the bag and a ring. I don't like the rings as I have found they can open up. I did see on Amazon something a bit different than the rings. A short cable where both ends screw together. But I am not sure that won't unscrew from vibration. I don't want to put locktite on it since I pull all my threads for a project. Well, I have a couple of months before I need a solution. Thanks for the input.
  13. I know we are a creative bunch of people and need a solution for my embroidery floss. We are getting ready to go full-time. We have been long-time for many years. In our new MH the upper cabinets are not tall enough to store the drawers I use for my embroidery floss. I keep all my floss in baggies and have all 400+ colors. I am thinking about punching holes in the corners of the bags and putting them on a ring and then into plastic boxes that fit into the MH. Not thrilled with the solution and was wondering if anyone had a better solution. I want to keep the threads in bags, no bobbins or anything along those lines. Thanks
  14. Our MH came with a Maytag stacked washer/dryer. Nothing special. We had it removed since we wanted the storage space. We do laundry once a week, kind of a forced down day is the way we look at it. Once in a while I would like a washer/dryer but just a passing thought. We saw several problems with having a washer/dryer: loss of significant storage; dryer time long due to being 110 vs 220; vibration/noise in the rig; need to have hookups to do laundry(at least a sewer). To each his own.
  15. That's internal rate. External is significantly higher. I know it's cheap but it sure stops me from buying and doing all sorts of things. I've used that number for years and it has worked out well.
  16. Pound wise and penny foolish. I bill myself out at $10/hour, the time to clean the hose each day is more than what I would save. Especially if it rainy or 30 degrees or very windy.............
  17. We probably get 5-6 years from our Rhino hose. I don't remember when we replaced it last. We use it once a week to dump and store it away the rest of the time. We use our tanks. Maybe someone can answer a question that we have always had. Why do people need to hook up the elec, water and sewer each night? Unless it is dumping day, we just use electricity each night and even if we are dumping we put everything away after dumping. I am not talking about small trailers but MHs and big trailers that have plenty of tank capacity. We like to just get up and go in the morning. Minimize the AM packing up, generally on the road by 8 AM.
  18. x2 on the manual pull. The day I can't pull down a shade is the day I give up RVing. We currently have MCD shades in our MH and they are nice, have had no problems with them in 2 years. The price of MCDs would make it a big decision to go that way for us.
  19. Be aware that cell blinds collect bugs in the cells...Better tell DW this before you go ahead..................
  20. My DW is on your DW's side. We bought mini-blinds. Just go to HD or Lowes and they cut to width. Problem is(at least when we bought them years ago) they are too long so you need to spend some time shortening them. Not a big deal for a happy DW.
  21. Though we are a couple I am curious as to volunteering opportunities for a single. All the opportunities seem to be for couples.
  22. "I've tried turning the temp. down in zone 1, but all that does is make the heater blow longer when it blows" This makes no sense. If you set the temperature to 55 why would it run longer? Should turn off at 55. Have you read your manuals? I haven't had a 5th wheel in about 10 years. I don't know how the furnace forced air system works with 2 zones, didn't even know that was available. In our 2 year old MH we have a thermostat in the LR and in the BR. When running the forced air the only thermostat that controls the furnace is the LR. The BR controls the heat pump in the AC unit and only that, has nothing to do with the forded air heat system.
