I refrain from buying the "peeled cut carrots", way too much mark up in those things and I find they often taste terrible, but maybe I'm unlucky in picking the right bag. Depending on what I'm doing with the Cucumbers on how much I peel. I don't notice much of a difference in the taste, but I don't buy them often. I haven't made "Mashed" potato's for a long time. I don't actually mind them mashed with the skins and maybe even being a bit "Lumpy". Rod

Another not Recipe. I used to peel off the skin of Potato's, but haven't in many years. I would also peel carrots and usually Cucumbers, but consider just washing them now. How many wash. Wash and peel or just Peel? I'm also thinking of discarding my "Plastic" cutting boards after reading the latest on the amount of plastic released by cutting carrots on a plastic cutting board. Rod

Lots of concern about these new "Laws". You know who benefits from "Laws and Lawsuits", the Lawyers, the Judges and the people working in the court system. Not to mention the politicians who have something else to say they will stop or encourage. Yes, without rules or laws there may be anarchy, but would that really be bad? Seem like some people think it's the way to gain power. Wouldn't it be nice for everyone to get along, be appropriate in their actions and not try to out do the other? Yes, I realize that won't happen in my lifetime. I just hope as some point History stops repeating itself and people can just live with one another. A park I stayed at in Florida was happy when I stayed a bit longer, they didn't have to pay the "Tourism" tax on people who stayed for a certain number of days, weeks or months. Over the Holidays I cared for my daughter and her friend's cats at their home. I stayed over a couple nights and got started using their "Apple TV". Big mistake on my part. Binge watched several of their shows at their house and now have signed up for it at my house on wheels. I recently converted my TV to a computer monitor so it's a good picture and everything so for is working fine. I have 3 months free and then it's $9.99 a month. Much less than any "Satellite" I've seen. No local channels that I can find so far, but I to have an antenna I could put up, but haven't at this site yet. Rod

Oh, I have thought about living in cold climates since before ordering my home. Unfortunately what I thought I was getting, didn't quite fit the bill. Never does, does it. I have no solar at all right now. Do have a completely open roof save for three vent pipe locations. The prior winters I've spent in OK have similar to how this one is progressing, will see how long this cold spell actually lasts and what's coming after. I'd like a nice blanket of snow and then I'd pile it up around the underside of the house. Once it melts then it's no longer needed. If I put up skirting I have to take it down later and decide if it's trash or something to keep. Still kicking myself for forgetting the "FREE" inner tubes. TWICE. I have a dual fuel Generator and it seems to work well with my 50 amp cord and the Mini Split. It's already up to 8 now and cloudy so maybe the cooling will be less overnight. I did have an issue of too cold for propane very early last Spring. I hope my idea of heating the tank will mitigate that a bit. Rod

In Norman, OK. I did something last night when I got home and now wish I'd done it many days sooner. My Mini Split system is just below my living/sleeping area and when it's below "Freezing" there are multiple "Defrost" cycles. Even after several years I still hear it every time it happens (or it seems like it.) So what did I do? I parked my Jeep right next to the trailer. Mostly to block the North Wind that I thought was causing much of the noise from the unit, but to my surprise I wasn't awakened at all last night with a "Defrost". Maybe it's because the humidity is quite low, but it sure was noisy the night before and it was warmer, stayed in the double digits at least. I should have took the trouble of parking with the front of my trailer to the North and then I'd have a bit of sun on the sides, but at least my slide out's are on the South and that seems to make a big difference. I parked for a few weeks in the early Fall with the slide outs on the North side in one location and I will not do that again. It was a fairly protected location, but the North Winds for sure found their way in. Or so it seemed. Checked my Bully Dog Watchdog monitor and am sitting at 5390 Watts with 44.5 Amps being consumed. I did hook my propane furnace back up to keep my water pump warm in case I lose electric, but I hope that doesn't happen. Now I have to wonder if I can put enough Solar panels and batteries to be able to do this off grid. Computer is now showing 1 degree, but my probe outside is still at 3 and now it's warning of "High winds soon". Wish me luck. Rod

Two of the trucks I bought had APU's installed and neither worked. On a truck that has infrequent use I personally think they are a waste of money. Now my neighbor at the HDT rally with his Mini Split installed because his onboard A/C in the truck stopped working I would really think about trying. I don't recall his name, but I think I have a couple photos of the outside unit. Never asked to see the inside, probably should have. Rod ps couldn't find the photos.

Sounds like it's not getting enough fuel. If you only have a 20lb tank and it's much below freezing you won't have enough fuel to keep it running unless you heat the tank. A friend of mine found that out the hard way last winter. Let his big tank get low and then just asked me to put the little one on if the big one went empty. I did, and asked for a fill of the big tank, but apparently not soon enough. Rod

Thanks everyone for the comments. It's going to be cold here this weekend, but looks like only a couple days of single digits and then it's above "Freezing" during the days at least. I've filled the fresh water tank, emptied the waste water and exercised the generator with a full propane tank attached. I used it last spring during some really cold weather when I didn't have a place to plug into a 50 amp source and it would only run for about 15 minutes and then shut off using the small propane tank. Not sure how full that tank was, but when I filled it up with Gasoline it never shut off. Hope I don't need to run it, but I think I'll hang a heat lamp above the tank and see if that works to keep it running longer, especially since I know the tank is full. I have yet to start looking at commercial companies, but I will. Rod Rod

So the reason I put salt on my Cutting surfaces, wood, plastic and one Glass one, is to keep the material from slipping around so much when I'm cutting or chopping. Not sure where I heard of doing it, but it works very well. It really doesn't take all that much unless your ingredient is very wet to start with. (Better to allow it to drain a bit if freshly washed). I have heard of Salting a "Butcher Block" for sanitation and I know people who are really bothered by my using a wooden cutting board at times. I do soak it and then put it in the microwave for a good steam and then a sun dry when I think about it. I have a Bamboo board that has 5 plastic inserts each with a label indicating what should be cut on it. Poultry, Meat, Bread Vegetables and fruit. They all nestle in a slot under the board and the board is cut out to keep the plastic from sliding around. I just pull out the one on top and cut what I need and then wash the plastic in addition to the holder. Sometimes I just throw them in the bottom of the sink rinsed and then wash several at once. Better use of water in my mind. Rod

Ray, Thanks for the support, but Flovent is not a "Rescue" inhaler. It's a Steroid that takes time to work. A true "Rescue Inhaler" is a Fast Acting Bronchial Dilatator such as Albuterol or salbutamol, salmeterol, formoterol and vilanterol found with google search. It is important to use proper technique to get the best dosing of the Steroid type of medication as well as the Rescue Inhalers. Rod

The first sentence of the linked article points out that the "Name Brand" of said medication will no longer be sold. The company is converting it to a "Generic" name and will continue to sell it, as will may other pharmaceutical companies now that the "Trademark" has expired. Interesting idea, they do make UV filters for install in a potable water line, but I don't remember what the cost was when I looked into it. Again I think they were one time use and it was more difficult to determine if they were actually working. I doubt they would enter the tank through the filler tube and as soon as you plugged it in while sitting in an empty tube you would have wasted your $100. I have direct access to my tank and could place one. I'll have to do more investigation before doing so though. Rod

Good point, guess it will depend on the climate where you are staying and the relative humidity in the ambient air. I'd never empty the tank completely and store it in Florida. Most likely if I had to store for any length of time I'd make a fairly strong bleach batch, run it through all the pipes and let it sit. I'd make sure to flush the drain pipes with a good dose of fresh clean water though. In the winter in the upper Midwest, everyone will store their rigs empty. My Aunt and Uncle stop in North Florida to flush and fill on their way South in the early New Year and then would stop to "Winterize" in the early Spring since there would still be some really cold weather in Iowa before Summer came in full force. Of course they would have to flush and fill up there for the "State Fair" and Winterize again before the cold weather hit. They have bought a Park Model in Florida now so I'm selling my RV Antifreeze stock. Rod

If they are vertical what difference does it make if they are a spin on vs a cartridge? Does the seal only work on the bolt when it's tightened? I thought in the older cars I could fill them, but it's been a long time since the 70's. Inquiring minds.... Rod

Unless the stream originates on your property and is enclosed, how do you know if you are upstream from where the animal excrement may be? Cows, pigs, deer, antelope, elk, dog, coyote, wolf, bison, horses, almost anything except maybe felines. They usually bury their stuff. I'd only drink from a source that came directly from the ground and was flowing at a good rate, except in an emergency that is. I'd planned to look up Natural Spring Water locations yesterday, but will do so today to see if there is a map function that pinpoints some of them. A person I follow on YouTube stopped to fill water bottles in Utah or Idaho at a roadside "Spring" which coincided with this forum topic. I remember in the 1980s and my first trip to California I saw people with water bottles (5 gallon dispenser type) along the road to "Halfmoon Bay". On the way back I stopped to inquire. People said it was the best drinking water in the area. Don't think I tried, wasn't a fan of water back then and for sure didn't carry a water bottle with me everywhere I go like I do now. This for me has gotten off the OP's question and I am sorry. I fill my tank when I arrive at a location I'm planning to stay at for a while. I usually turn on the pump and empty most of the tank when I'm planning to leave in a few days. I have plenty of CCC, but believe it or not I do notice when I have a partially full 100 gallon Fresh tank and really notice if I haven't dumped the waste tanks. rl

Bruce, the water was a lot more clean back in those days. I too grew up on a farm and knew about Cisterns and collecting rain water. The old hand pump in the front yard of our home had the best tasting water, but it's long since been filled back in. I agree the natural substances did toughen us up a bit back in the day, but now there animals are all concentrated in small areas and there is no dilution of their waste products and now there are other additives to their diets that have been contaminated with genetical modifications. Who knows what's in the water these days, unless you have a chemistry lab. In addition to the Elko issue, remember the Detroit drinking water problem several years ago? How about California and the movie about all the sick families from the power company. Rain used to fall on the ground and slowly erode the waste materials deposited by "Animals". I would be filtered through lots of soil full if microorganisms and it would work it's way down over a LONG TIME to the aquifer's and then move back up through the soil and come out as "Fresh Water Springs". Have you ever tasted a fresh water Spring? That still happens in some places, but lots of the ground is now covered by things like concrete, asphalt, buildings, that don't allow for the slow flow of the water back into the ground. What do we do? Build collection areas for the water with all of its waste to settle in a small area and maybe filter out a bit, but most of it is routed to the natural water ways and shifted more quickly to the oceans. Some blame "Global Warming" on the cause for the rise in ocean levels, but that's not the only reason in my mind. Have you ever driven through an area that produces agriculture especially during the early spring or late fall when there are machines with these huge rolls of black pipe being placed in the ground? It's called drainage tile and to me one of the worst things for the environment. Farmers put the tile in the fields to move water away from areas so they can plant more seed and yes it works very well, but where does that water go? To the nearest waterway much more quickly than nature intended and it moves away from that area with more quickly, not having the opportunity to filter through the ground at all. Water is precious and we all need to take care of it or one day our children's children's grand children may have to walk the earth in a Dune suit drinking their own filtered waste and hoping to find a clear water source. For algae to grow you would need light. Most water storage in RV's are not in areas that get sunlight and often times the tanks are opaque. The hoses used to fill your tanks often do have Algae inside them and I try to fill them with a Bleach solution a few times during the summer months. It takes just a little bit in the hose, but you do need for it to sit for a bit and then remember to flush it before hooking it up to your fresh water tank. I still don't drink the water from my fresh water holding tank. I will brush my teeth and cook with it, but my coffee is made from water from known drinking water sources. I currently use the HteaO that's just down the street from me. I saw a 5 gallon container in the store last February that has a dispenser at the bottom and a large opening on the top. I have 2 3 gallon water cooler containers that I invert on the top of the 5 gallon one. It's much easier to cart a couple 3 gallon ones than 5 gallon. Rod
