bruce t
Charles you need to remember that 1000's of folks have driven this road and many other roads. We all have different experiences. Just because you had a great run while others had terrible runs doesn't mean they are right or wrong. It's just as they found it. We have driven Interstate 10 many times and haven't yet found the rough sections that many recount. (Our trip back from Alaska was so bad that our wheels and brakes froze up jammed with mud. Was it our imagination or simply how we found it?) Sometimes you get lucky sometimes you don't. But it's all 'fun'. regards
Cathy and Paula
We just drove it and it was fine. I thought it was better than the Alaskan Hwy. Crabtrees1
I drove it in a 18 wheeler in about 1981 when the road was brand new then. It follows the river so not many big Hills or mountains to go over. Yes it is narrower that the Alcan but is wide enough for any RV you might have. take it and enjoy all the beauty. KodiakJack
The Cassier had a "Closed" banner across the sign last week at its juncture with the Alcan. No idea why. reed and elaine
We did the Cassiar north to south seven years ago and much preferred that drive to Alcan. The first several miles were in Yukon and the road was really bad and we thought of of turning about but once we hit BC, the road was great. The Provincial CG at Boya was superb and the water was warm enough for swimming. The CG is open 15 May to 15 September. It is still open for use but there is no charge and no facilities (no water or dump probably). There were perhaps 60 km of gravel at that time and the BC section of the road was great. We should like to do it again. Reed and Elaine
k4rs
The road was terrible. Mud that stuck like $#@ to a blanket. Our toad was nothing more the a huge pile a goop with wheels on it. We drove the Cassier while returning from Alaska in 2006. I do not recall any really bad sections, but quite a few were not paved. We had quite a bit of rain so the 5th wheel looked like Bruce's toad. Despite numerous power washing, we still have a permanent layer of "Cement" on the bottom of our rig as a souvenir. reed and elaine
The really bad mud was in the construction region near Toad River. We went down to Florida for part of the winter after we did the Alcan and Cassiar and were at a County RV Park near Miami (great place) and a guy was going around washing off RVs with a high pressure system. He said he had never washed anything and persistent as that clay. Reed and Elaine
Patee
Drove the Cassiar in July this year (southbound). Road was windy, rough in a few places but slow down and enjoy the trip and you will be fine. Stayed in Meziadin Provincial Park and took the the toad to visit Stewart and Hyder. Beautiful park right on the lake. Great drive to Salmon Glacier past Hyder. Stop and have amazing fish & chips in Hyder at 'The Bus'. To die for!! So fresh and tasty. It is a block off the main road thru Hyder so ask a local if you can't find it. Worth looking for. Road is much better after Stewart, but none of it is really anything to concern yourself with. The scenery is worth it. Enjoy!
lostinfl
Just came of the Cassiar. No problems at all, on the North end about 15 miles in you hit new pavement for about 30 miles, smoother then many roads in Yukon that are paved. Beautiful country, could not believe this was the same road many were telling us was terrible and don't take it. Hyder pretty much closed down and RV park there is closed for the season, good park in Steward. Only one small section was rough, just take it slow and enjoy the ride. Thanks all for recommendation not to listen to the naysayers. Jim

Glad to hear you enjoyed yourselves, hope they improve the road between destruction bay and beaver creek that was the worst road on our trip both up and back. Mariner
My experience with two trips up north, is that the stretch of road between Destruction Bay & Beaver Creek is always bad. Some of the worst frost heaves seem to be on that stretch. Fulltiming since 2010 2000 Dutch Star 2009 Saturn Vue Myrtle Beach, SC
Al F
To give a visual perspective to what some of the road looks like, go to this recent blog report. There are several pictures of the road, which I would think help folks to decide if this is the kind of road they want to drive on. To some, driving on a narrow, shoulderless road, no matter how scenic, is not what they want to do. To others the scenic beauty of the drive or area far out weighs the narrow road.
