  1. A few things jump out with your selection of 5th wheel. Don't know what type of RV campgrounds you plan on but the longer the 5er the more difficulty you'll have in choices and the gross vehicle weight of16,800 is well within the capacity of your planned truck but the 2,283 carry capacity is rather low. Adding larger axles does not add carry capacity though it will increase your security. Just a few things you may want to consider.
  2. Don't know how I missed this thread. I was called for jury duty for the month of May 2023 in Minnehaha county. We had previously secured a volunteer position at the Tennessee NWR May thru September. My thought was how we could make this work. The ranger we would be working for was understanding, Sandi would stay and work the visitor center and I secured an Air B&B in Sioux Falls for the month. We consider South Dakota our residence as well as our domicile not just a convenience. We vote at the Minnehaha County Building in person when early voting opens, so it's easy to plan for elections. Not to easy when you have six weeks from the time you receive notice to make arrangements but its doable. Was called in for jury selection twice but didn't get picked but I did fulfill my duty. daka
  3. I read where one bill was to remove names of those from the voting rolls if their address was one of the PMB locations. Interesting that it was left up to the clerks office in charge of the rolls but they were not obligated to remove those names. One of the complaints about the PMB voting is that one day does not a resident make and actual 30 day requirement of residing in the state should be imposed. There is one problem with denying the right to vote, it's against the law at least for federal elections. Motor voter law of 1993.
  4. You have to realize there is so much social media plus so many more RV sites than there were years ago.
  5. Only if I'm toting two twelve pacs of longnecks otherwise I'd take the long way and even if it's longer what beer is in the fridge would just be that much colder.
  6. If things aren't going the way you hoped on backing in, don't get flustered do as I do , take a drive around the loop and start anew.
  7. My wife's investment broker moved from one brokerage house to another. They were very insistent that she needed an address other than our PMB. It took awhile but providing mail from SS administration, Medicare billings, they finally decided if her/ our address was good enough for the Federal Gov it was good enough for them. Remember the government works for us, not us for them. Two thousand page pieces of legislation are written by bureaucrats only concern is to keep their direct deposits coming.
  8. 13 years fulltiming with 5th wheel, a F350 tow and a follow vehicle. True we placed the follow vehicle in storage during two trips to Alaska. I suggest a getting a 4 down towable if togetherness is important to you.
  9. We're on our 13th year full timing and volunteer 8 months out of 12 which keeps site fees down plus 24 hrs a week depending on the work keeps you sharp and fit. We use freecampsites.net when we travel between volunteer gigs you can find some very nice parks with EW and a dump station often 1 night free then $10 -15 a night these are mostly city or county parks many near the fair grounds. We have our senior pass so half price at ACE parks and haven't been at a bad one yet.
  10. Is a school bus with lipstick anyway different from a schoolie.
  11. Congrats on your anniversary. We started our 13th year last April.
  12. Talon 39, Do you file Federal tax forms from that address. Only time wife had a problem was when her broker changed firms. After she sent several envelopes from IRS, Medicare and her financial institution the brokers new firm accepted the PMB as legitimate address. I mean if the federal government accepts it why shouldn't they.
  13. Is it draining properly to the evaporation tray. They can get blocked with algae growth.
  14. We owned a house that we had lived in for 15 years. It was up for sale and we had not lived in it for 2 1/2 years. We had transferred mail to a SD forwarding service after our first 6 months on the road. We had a good neighbor that would collect any mail that showed up at our house. At that time our vehicles were still registered at that address so we had to receive renewals there. Just about everything else was E-mail or online. We were still paying property taxes and paying state and federal taxes from that address. Here's the thing if your wealthy you can have a house in all of 50 states and maybe one in the Caribbean an another in Europe but you can only claim ONE as your domicile.
  15. We left out volunteer position in Minnesota 9/28 will arrive 11/21 at our winter destination. Since the last legs of our journey are reserved and paid, total camping fees for 55 nights will be $1155 or $21.00 per night. Senior pass used for 25 nights. All nice parks, 5 on lakes, half WSE other WE all 50 amp. Two county parks, Three private parks, Three USACE parks.
  16. As I soon learned, the free live of RVing requires deep pockets, a variety of skills and RV forums with knowledgeable members to give counsel.
  17. We cancelled our planned volunteer position due to fuel prices. We could handle $4.00 and a bit more. We did find a volunteer position closer actually half the distance so the $5.00 plus works out to be the same. That's not the only cost increase we've run into. We go to Costco once a month and purchase 90% repeat items. What a year ago would have been $250. -275 crept up to $300 and now the last two months were low $400.'s. Only bonus on the horizon is the truck will be paid off in Sept. Of course that means it will probably nee some kind of repair.
  18. Wasn't the question "what do you want for Christmas". I am in good health with no underlying conditions so my only want is to wake up Christmas morning. It don't get better than that.
  19. If your financing your RV I assure you your lender will require it before you need to register it. When we -purchased our first 5er we had already had a credit check and were OKed for more than we planned to spend. We gave a deposit then secured the loan contacted our insurer for coverage then returned to the dealer and finished the deal. Since it was an out of state purchase we were given a 10 day travel license the only thing left was title, tags and taxes when we got home.
  20. Parking in NYC sucks. I have stayed in NJ at a motel near the airport took the motel shuttle to the airport and from there a bus into the city. Did drive into the city once but parking came with the hotel room or guaranteed available. A good pair of walking shoes and a subway map should get you to all the sights worth seeing.
  21. Just filled a 40# and a 20 # together were $37.00
  22. Been in every state but Maine and slept in all of them. RV,ed in 37 states and passed through another 2 we didn't camp in. Two trips on the Alaskan Highway. Other excursions to Canada for fishing and visiting relatives. Only other international travel would be Nassau Bahamas.
  23. Does that apply to long guns or only to pistols?
  24. I'd give you some more advice but I believe you've got enough to consider. Enjoy your trip and relax.
  25. We're down near the southern epicenter just a causeway away. We did mingle with the crowds the Saturday before Mardi Gras in the French Markets and had lunch at a restaurant on Jackson Square. No health concerns since then though many here had some crud back in mid January. What it was, who knows. Personally not worried about that whatever the outcome might be no reason to fear the end. We'll be here at least till the end of the month and if everything goes well we'll head out to Idaho for our summer gig.
