jayco1
A very long time ago we drove 66 across the country, have talked about trying it again with our RV. Is there still an actual highway you can follow? Searches seem to indicate there is just bits and pieces, may not be practical for a trip.
Darryl&Rita
Cross country? Yes. All Route 66, all the time? No. I have been wrong before, I'll probably be wrong again. 2000 Kenworth T 2000 w/N-14 and 10 speed Gen1 Autoshift, deck built by Star Fabrication 2006 smart fourtwo cdi cabriolet 2007 32.5' Fleetwood QuantumPlease e-mail us here. U.S. Highway 66 was decommissioned. Interstates now follow much of the route of the old highway. I-40 through New Mexico follows the US 66 route and the old highway is often the frontage road or the business route through towns. Still lots to see and do in the small towns and the remnant sections of the highway. Here is a link to a set of maps and a link to another. Here is a link to the Route 66 Museums. Here is a link to a state by state list of attractions.

Jeff & Suzanne
You probably want to start your trip here with your tow vehicle, leaving your trailer at a campground near Joliet. The start of Route 66 is no place for any RV of any large size. http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2011/09/30/your-chicago-route-66-starting-point/ Jeff and Suzanne with Scout and Sydney, the Cocker Spaniel Sisters touring in Fawkes the 2012 Phoenix Cruiser 2400 Sprinter "What happens in Vagueness, stays in Vagueness"
Sculptor
We went through Missouri on a good portion of it. It was well maintained and nice overall.
