fmracerbob
Looking for an overnight stop passing through L.A. on a Fri. night next week. Hollywood park Casino looks convenient. Wondering what the likely hood of there being adequate space on a Friday, anyone with recent experience.
Pappy Yokum
Lived in the West L.A. area for lots of years. (Near UCLA). The Hollywood Park Racetrack closed (forever) a few years ago. The location will be the stadium site for the LA Rams. I would call the casino and ask about the availability of RV parking - and the *security* for same. It may be in the process of closing also. Although it's close to LAX via Century Blvd........I wouldn't arrive in Inglewood after dark - on *any* night. I see someone reviewed (Google) the poker only Casino, stating - "it's in a seedy area". IMO - if I were passing through L.A., I would continue "through" to a different location - whether you're going North or South. Maybe someone who has over-nighted there recently will chime in. . Lou Schneider
I wouldn't recommend it. Like Pappy said, it's in the middle of a major construction project for the Ram's new stadium and the casino itself isn't that large, just a card room and sports book. And it's not in the best neighborhood. I'd look for an overnight stop outside of the L.A. basin. Depending on your route, there are a couple of large truck stops on I-5 north of the Grapevine and two casinos that allow overnight parking along I-10 at Hwy 86, at the eastern edge of Indio (Palm Springs). Then time your trip through the L.A. for very early Saturday morning to miss most of the traffic. Pappy Yokum
Not to beat this to death......but the OC Register newspaper ran an article Nov. 21,2013, by Reid Wilson form the Washington Post. I had re-discovered it about the same time I saw this thread. It deals with "warnings" by foreign ministries in other countries about cities throughout the USA. Think I'm pretty "street wise", but guess I had clipped it to put in my travel folder for reference to places I haven't been. (quote) "Here's what other countries, mostly France, say about U.S. cities: Los Angeles: France warns tourists to take care in Hollywood, Santa Monica, Venice Beach and Long Beach and to avoid Watts, Inglewood and Florence". (end quote) Being politically correct/polite........ When certain areas are having events (like the LA Coliseum), there is a heavy LAPD security presence. When there is *no* event taking place, the surrounding area (South Central LA, Watts, Florence) is *not* "visitor friendly" The above are in L.A. LA -and LAPD- has way, way more resources than the city of Inglewood. The LA Rams will be playing home games for two years at the Coliseum - then to their new site in Inglewood. Wouldn't hesitate to attend a game at either venue - and actually (then) Inglewood would be preferable. Traveler beware! . youngfulltimers
Good advice to learn as I'm trying to somehow visit Venice next month to reunite my dog with one of our old roommates. We were going to avoid LA entirely before, and now we're trying to figure out a way to get at least one night in the area, which seems especially RV unfriendly. Lou Schneider
Your best bet would be to stay in a commercial park or established campground. Not cheap but reasonably safe. rvparkreviews.com shows what's available along with descriptions. The closest campground to Venice would be Dockweiler Beach County Park. Bring earplugs as it's directly under the LAX flight path. As is Hollywood Park for that matter. Sooooo could be time to retire it? 😉
