trostberg
So what do you do when you are a solo traveler living in your RV and having a procedure like a colonoscopy? When I was in Wisconsin I know they would let me park in the parking lot overnight but not sure in the Seattle area where there would be overnight parking available for a 20 ft Class B RV since lots are costly. Madison WI hospital had some parking for RVers too, I don't have to be downtown and could be in the outskirts but want to establish services in a good facility. Right now I am in Port Townsend volunteering but may be elsewhere in the state in the future so want something easy to get to should I be working at a KOA in Leavenworth or elsewhere in the future. Any recommendations? I lived in the Seattle area when I went to college so have some familiarity and worked in healthcare here but healthcare has changed and networks more restricted
lasttruck
Contacting the facilities social services or security would be my first step. Hospitals often have space set aside for patients and/or family from out of town to stay while in the hospital. Don't want to talk about what the Seattle Mayor is setting up. trostberg
I know the Seattle discussion regarding homeless RVers and have contacted the cancer alliance.for suggestions....not needing cancer care just routine. As far as traveling in my RV in Seattle....wondering if I can park my 20 ft Class B at my friends house when visiting in West Seattle or if I will be labeled homeless and cause all sorts of complaints. Why don't you just call someone in West Seattle city government?
Kirk W
Does it have to be in Seattle? There is an Escapee park in Chimicum and you could probably find a fellow Escapee who would provide you transport to and from. I would at least contact them to see if they have any suggestions as I'd bet that you can get one done without going into Seattle. Traveling as a pair, it isn't something that I've had to deal with. trostberg
I will only be on the Olympic Peninsula another month and maybe in Leavenworth WA after that so wanted to establish a long term relationship that I could maybe travel even by train if needed from Leavenworth. It will probably take longer than a month to get an appointment.
Barbaraok
Is there some rush? Why not wait until you are someplace where you are going to be for a couple of months? Or set up ahead of time with your regular physician?
trostberg
Just changed domicile and may be out of my network area for a good portion of the year. Want to get preventive work done while I am in the area. Don't know for sure where I will be working this summer and it takes awhile to get an appointment
Chris-n-Dennis
Teri, also check with the McDonald house for parking if the stay is real short. If you do end up going to Leavenworth you have the town shuttle and the link systems if you need. Or, if we make the run into Wenatchee for routine stuff, parking is pretty wide open there, and appointments are pretty easy to come by.
butchkaren
Wenatchee Hospital, near Leavenworth, maybe it's called Confluence Hospital now, does have RV parking at the edge of their parking lot. I don't know all of the particulars, but it may be worth looking into. We have always been happy w/ the health care providers there. Good luck! Kirk W
Teri, did you find a solution to the problem? We are still thinking about you out here............
trostberg
I have not scheduled the colonoscopy and don't know if I have to go into Seattle for my particular network or can find something in the suburbs with more parking.. Just signed up with a new MD and got my mammogram. The cancer alliance suggested some RV parks that are a long way away so getting to and from the appointment would still be an issue. I will check out parking lots near the hospital when I am over in Seattle in the coming weeks. I think there is a bit of sensitivity to RV parking overnight because of the homeless parking in RVs issue around the area. Still don't know where I will be after March. There is always hotels and boarding kitty if need be.....just a more expensive option.
jmarxen
So what do you do when you are a solo traveler living in your RV and having a procedure like a colonoscopy? Not sure what you are specifically asking. My DW just had a colonoscopy and she when in at 7:0 am and was finished and out by 9:00 am. Understand the appointment wait time though. Kirk W
Am I misunderstanding your situation? - When you are traveling alone, who drives you after the procedure is over? They say not to drive for the rest of the day, no important decisions, no operation of appliances or cooking. So the problem is one of what to do once you are released? trostberg
When I had this done before I had my Class B RV, I stayed at a local hotel for 2 days that had a discount for hospital patients and was pet friendly. They also had a shuttle. My drive to the procedure in rural WI was about an hour to get to the MD. I usually stayed overnight in the hospital parking lot when I had an early morning mammogram or something so that I did not have to take most of the day driving back and forth when I had to be in the office working. Unfortunately in the cities you often only find parking garages even for a short stop anywhere and the height is an issue if you don't have a toad. Something to think about if you have not been in the situation and may be someday,
trostberg
Turns out that parking is not an issue but........I cannot be discharged without someone with me for this fairly simple outpatient procedure. Even if I am in their parking lot. Kitty doesn't count. So I will just wait until I get more settled, which may be awhile.
