Dave the higher = cooler. Think it was low 40's this morning and low 80's for a high today.

Steve - You and Carol have stayed at the Ogden Elks? What did you think about it and the area? Leaving Colorado tomorrow heading for Utah.

Travel safe everyone.

Headin' to Kearney, NE tomorrow...yeehaw, I get to spend mid July on the Plains. They say that we can expect 100's+ when we get to Sterling, CO. Our turn for the oven, I guess! :P

Jeff, we're heading to S. Utah after CO first week of Sept. Maybe we can cross paths?! We'll be with the "two Dianes" and their drivers...(LOL) at Ignacio, end of Aug. Maybe there too? Been too long!

It has been awhile since we've seen you. We are headed north toward Coeur d'Alene, Idaho for Labor Day weekend (maybe) then toward the Pacific Coast. Hope to see the Pacific without alot of fog. LOL. Then south for the winter.

Good luck with the Diane and Dianne and their drivers. Also good luck on the wedding. My buddy Larry says you have to do this when in Kearney.

Hey, Jeff, we stayed at the Provo Elks for a month. Nice place! They even brought us out chicken soup when Carol had her operation. A little tight getting in the drive as the lodge is off the street a ways, but once you get in off the street there's plenty of room.. Steve

Isn't that backwards? Wisconsin in the summer then south on the Blue Ridge Parkway in the fall as the leaves change colors.

We will be lifting our jacks in the morning and headed to the Bend area for a couple days, then over to Colorado some how. Of course I'm just the "driver" as Roger would say so maybe Diane will tell me which way to go.

Dave, we came down through Laramie on 287 into Fort Collins. Nice road and no traffic. We then went up to Estes Park for the highland festival with knights jousting and such. They always have something going on up there. Then we came back down to Horsetooth reservoir at Fort Collins with Mike and Julie and stayed there until the floods were over. Nice spot to make your base camp and drive your truck up to Estes and Rocky Mountain National park. That flood up there was a hell of a mess, but we were on high ground there at Horsetooth. All I can remember of that part was Mike standing on the roof of his rig with a tube of silicone calk and shouting some Scottish curses at the "rain gods". We got about 11" of rain in a day or two. Fort Collins has really nice restaurants. Lucille's is one of the favorites if you can get in. They had a killer crab benedict. My sister lives in Berthoud (just south of there) so we go there a lot. Happy Travels Steve

We had called a state park near Vernal, Ut. and they said they had a place for us "just show up". We wanted a week. So we left Steamboat got to Vernal and they only had a night or two available with power. We stayed one then on to Provo. Here at least a week probably two.

We usually stay at Boyd Lake State Park in Loveland. It's less than a 3 mile bike ride on a paved path to our daughter and her family's house. Our son in law is a boat ranger at Horsetooth Reservoir. Lots to do in the area as Steve says.

Travel safe everyone.

Our experience with boat rangers: We have a friend who is a retired sheriff's deputy. We sold him one of our cars when we went fulltime. The next summer we parked on their property and borrowed "our" car for a trip into town for dinner. At the restaurant a couple cops kept checking us out. Turns out they were boat rangers who recognized our car as belonging to the deputy. I'm so glad they didn't call us in as suspected car thieves. Maybe we didn't look shifty enough?

Question for you that knw Colorado. We were thinking about going to Salt Lake City Utah and heading east into Wyoming to Laramie and then down through Fort Collins and south through Denver and then over to Durango.

Or would we be better off going from Salt Lake to Moab and on to Monticello and over into Colorado on 491 to Cortez and hwy 160 to Durango?

Even if we went the southern route we would spend a month covering the state anyway but maybe a bunch of it doing driving tours.

You can't go wrong going either way. There is alot to see in the Colorado mountains and I know you like big cities. LOL. You may wish you had the Jeep but there are many trails that you truck can do too. You are meeting tdhomestead and lil red rooster down south soon I'd go through Moab first.

We are in Provo now, give us a shout when you get to Salt Lake we'll get together. Have you come across Hwy 50 through Nevada to Utah?

That's a tough one Dave, we really liked the Salt Lake City/Provo area. We visited all the sites in Salt Lake, then they have two very nice mountain drives near Provo. One is the loop that goes through Sundance (Robert Redford's place) which got high enough to run into snow in Sept. Then we also love the Moab area. One thing about going down the East side (Ft. Collins area) is the ease in getting to Estes Park and Rocky mountain national park. Also the Pikes peak, garden of the gods in the Colorado Springs area (while deftly worming your way through Denver traffic)! Then you have the I-70 drive through the mountains. Coming down the West side one of the prettiest drives in a motor home is through Glenwood springs. We went through it one time in the rain, and had to go back through it when the sun was out.

Ok, here's one route. Provo Utah, Salt Lake City, across to Laramie then Fort Collins (camp and explore Estes Park, Rocky Mountain National Park) then south to Colorado Springs (camp and explore cog train to Pikes Peak, Air Force Academy, garden of the gods). Backtrack a little to I-70 and take it West through Eisenhower tunnel, explore Vail and then the drive through Glenwood springs (worth it) then go south when you get to Grand Junction to Montrose and then Durango . Then fill up with diesel

Or of course go to plan 2 or 3 or....................................

Oh yeah, stop and see Jeff & Tina in Provo (I just noticed he snuck a post in there.

We may be here until the end of the month. How is the truck doing? Sure looks good.

Jeff

Truck is doing great, thanks. Hooked up to it and hauled it from Grants Pass to La Pine Oregon and it did great. Probably easier to get ready to tow than the Jeep if you can believe that.

Was thinking about leaving here tomorrow but it might rain so we may hang around another day. Then might stop in Burns for a night OR do the unusual thing for us and travel a tad over 300 miles to Caldwell Idaho and hang out a couple days before moving that way. 300 miles of 2 lane roads may be a bit much for me in one day LOL!! We stayed in Park City the last time we were in the area, never stopped in Provo.

Dave glad to hear the new truck is ready for action. Sometimes it takes a while on these new vehicles to get them equipped.

I have to get on here and say something or IYQ will chew me out for being derelict of duty. I have a feeling he is sneaking around looking for the ice cream machine, so if I don't post he'll think I'm not paying attention!! Problem is there is nothing going on around here and it's hot too! We just went to Zio's and had a great Italian lunch. Now I'm just waiting around for the windshield replacement guy to finish getting my "picture window" replaced. If I ran my old shop like these guys do, nothing would ever get done. Aaarrgghhh! Steve

I guess I finally got in touch with the right windshield person. They are shipping the windshield to Norman Oklahoma (where we are parked) and have a glass shop here that does bus windows. They won't do a mobile install on a single windshield, but they are just a couple of miles from where we are parked so it's probably high time I exercise the bus anyway. That will give the generator some exercise anyway because it will have to run the three A/C units all day in this 100 degree heat. I guess you could fry eggs on the windshield ha ha, hmmm maybe if you threw a crepe mix on the windshield and spread it with the wipers, you would have breakfast!! I'll work on that one. Steve

Now today is farmers market day. The whole parking lot is full of cars and the people watching is great. We are the first RV in the park so the market is right next to us. A steady stream of watermelon seekers are going past between 7:00AM and 12 noon. They have another one on Tuesday evening, so at least we won't starve while parked here. Just maybe I can open a crepe stand and take advantage of this.

Our son came over last night with the grandkids, so we went biking (nice paved trails around here), and managed to make a pile of chicken disappear. They are 5 and 7, so "really active" doesn't even start to describe them. I finally got all the switches in the MH back to where they were before they got here. :( Looks like another hot day here, but some weathercaster promised a little rainstorm tomorrow. We'll see how that one goes. Looks like the escapade is kicking off up in Vermont. That would be the place to be right now. Oh well! Happy Travels.............. Steve
