  1. I don't have a brand in mind. My intentions to buy a take out gear set with the gearing I want and a locker already installed and I will swap it out with mine. Then I just need to get it air.
  2. Not sure if the video will show here. But I need a new head/hitch myself. While I don't really want to spend the money right now I think i'll take this opportunity to upgrade to a suspension hitch.
  3. I carry chains. I have a set of cable chains for the steer axle, a set of cable chains for 1 of the axles on the trailer and a set V bar chains for the drives. I have yet to chain the steer or trailer but have thrown the drive axle a few times on ice. Now I have thrown the drive axle chains many times to get thru some mud. In the near future I will be re gearing my truck and will use that opportunity to add a locker. And at some point will install on-spot chains as well. We do a good bit of winter camping and snow/ice will not stop us.
  4. It has been a very easy process for me. Registration was a cake walk. I did have to hold my insurance agents hand a little for them to get the correct policy's but even that was easy.
  5. We avoid truck stops. I can only think of going to a truck stop once with the HDT. The price on the big sign was a lie. Usually find a smaller station to get fuel and normally for a decent discount compared to the big boys after they add in the non advertised taxes.
  6. Cash is king. If it's after hours I will use a Debit card, I don't have a credit card.
  7. how heavy is your front end and what tires are you running that you need that much air?
  8. I use Waze as an overlay on google maps(it's part of google maps now). It's great for seeing delays ahead and planning around them.
  9. Tommy from the HDT facebook page lives right there. Said it took him forever to get to work yesterday morning. And then on the way home, a livestock truck crashed and there were pigs running around all over closing the highway again.

If you are asking me. Alaska. Tried to explain to them its an RV and all that but they were not following very well, once I said "toater home" they knew exactly what I meant.
  11. Depending on where we are and what time of year we use a kiddy pool to drain grey and let it evaporate. One place we camp has a convenient dump station but no power or water. And on work trips, We will hire a porta potty company to come out and take the black and grey but they have no way of bringing fresh water. When I build the bed I want to work in waste tanks too. I already have a flow jet.

We have a "commercial" policy thru Country Financial it has a not for commercial use clause in it, and its DIRT cheap. They don't care about the trailer and we can drive it solo as much as we please. We may be switching to State Farm in a few months, I am still researching their policy documents and root out any disagreements I may have with it.
  13. I have a 300-gallon IBC tote on the back of my truck for water while boondocking. Its been there for over a year no issues. It's not permanent. When I build my bed I will be working in 100 or so gallons of fresh water storage. But this is what I have now. I have spent 21 days off-grid showing every day, several loads of laundry and even did a bunch of pressure washing and came home with water leftover.

Ours is insured thru Country Financial. But State Farm will insure it as well. Not tied to a 5th wheel policy.
  15. I can't teach an Alaska class from Alaska. But if anyone is planning a trip and wants to ask me questions go for it. I will be down in Washington and Oregon from Alaska with HDT and trailer for July. Wish I could adjust to make the WCR but I can't pull it off.
  16. I can't speak to the drain hose. But I work on generators for data centers and telecom facilities. Recharging via the vacuum method is a godsend. It almost completely eliminates air pockets. We went from having to babysit and burp a particular set of generators for days. To be a one shot and done process, no air pockets no burping none of that hassle.
  17. I take it you had the computer updated for the new rear end ratio? I have been thinking about regearing myself. But would also like to add a locker at the same time.
  18. November 3, 2015, Was the last time they logged into the site with that account. And they only made that 1 post.
  19. You can not go wrong with a Kioti. They are cheaper than Kubota and Deere, and offer higher lift capacities as well. Good power plants and durable.
  20. My Hayes bit the bullet last trip out. Worked fine at home base but half way to the destination i noticed no braking from the trailer. while at our destination I fiddled with it and determined the controller was bad. Drove it back home with no brakes. The HDT handled it like a champ even thou it was mountains the whole way with 6-10% grades up and down. saving my pennies for a directlink.
