  1. Henry built at least one ET with a gooseneck ball as well. I haven’t been able to find the thread. If no one sends pictures trying sending a message to phoenix2013 and see if he still has pictures. Nigel edit: found one of the links. Picture about 5 posts from top http://www.rvnetwork.com/topic/121122-et-senior-hitch/?tab=comments#comment-816714
  2. If I was doing it again (I’m not) I would do something like rickeieio suggests. Mount the winch to a draw bar that attaches with two eyebolts to the front or rear bumper (no trailer hitch available unless you build your own) and use Anderson connectors for power. That way it doesn’t matter if the winch line touches the body work on the deck it won’t scratch as it is not being drawn across the bodywork. Now if you want to winch your other toys, install the winch on the truck. Nigel

    Air brake issue

I agree with Darryl. Had a similar situation except mine acted up on a start from cold. Front gauge wouldn’t climb from zero and alarm wouldn’t stop but lots of air in tank. The sensor is inside the cab in front of your left foot where the air lines pass through. There are a couple there and I think I disconnected one at a time, applied brakes and checked gauges to figure out which one it was. Nigel

    Replacement Air Bag

Al Before you rule out the Goodyear bag take another look at yours. Maybe the bracket is the same as yours. It wouldn’t be uncommon for the brackets to rust out in the salt belt and supplying the bracket and bag as an assembly would make sense. At least to me. Nigel
  5. Thanks Ralf and Al, we really enjoyed the two ECRs we attended. I won’t take a spot from a potential HDTer if I sell my unit before the rally. Carl needs all the sites he can get. Jim it took a little bit to get the truck the way I want. I just don’t see us driving across the Rockies again for several years and that is why I built it in the first place. Nigel
  6. We have decided to downsize and have listed our truck. If it doesn’t sell before spring I hope to see some of you at the ECR. Nigel http://www.rvnetwork.com/topic/137653-ontario-canada-volvo-430-hdt-for-sale/
  7. packnrat Something like a BMW Isetta would work size wise they are only about 90 inches long Nigel
  8. Dan For the dogs something like this might be the answer. https://www.petloader.com/ It would store in the side box. My dog likes to sit on the front edge of the bed so I had to find a bunk restraint to stop him falling on the floor every time I lifted on the throttle. Also the licensing rules are provincial and you may or may not require a license upgrade in your province I don’t know. But I second Roger’s suggestion of getting some training. Nigel
  9. I think most of us just use it as is. The factory trailer wiring on the truck should already be fused and you are not drawing any more power than a normal commercial trailer. However I have seen pictures of someone’s truck where he had each circuit fused between the jackalope and the trailer. Nigel

    brake light switch

Henry The way I read it is the original poster is looking for a brake light signal for the input on his controller. Nigel
  11. You could reach out to Roger (rdickinson) he had a custom trailer hitch made for his 453 and he winches his up. Maybe he can send you some photos and you can have someone make something similar for you. Best to send him a pm as he is not on the forum all that often. Link to Roger’s post on his hitch. http://www.rvnetwork.com/topic/126030-2017-smart-hitch/?tab=comments#comment-879943 Nigel
  12. Sliding ET hitch? Nigel

    brake light switch

What DesertMiner said. Gregg used to pull his signal from the Jackolope and run it forward to the brake controller. Nigel
  14. Steve. In the towing industry they used to test to destruction things like chain, synthetic rope and slings. Working load limit is usually one quarter or one fifth of the average failure figure depending on how risk adverse the manufacturer was. Is that how you would come up with working load limit a fraction of the deflection number? Either way the product is scrap after the testing. Nigel

    Smart car shake

Make sure the lugs are tight. There is a reason you are supposed to re torque within a hundred miles. Nigel
  16. Slixter Here is a video Gregg did a few years ago with a 730 that does a pretty good job of demonstrating the length. If you stay tandem the hitch will be a couple of feet further back than in the video. Don’t forget unless you are using the first generation smart car (05/06) you will be over width so does it really matter if you are over length as well? 17. I was thinking Phil was being quite calm and retirement was doing him wonders. Nigel
  18. Yes it is amps per magnet. Electrics is a foreign language to Roger but he is very in tune with his combination and knows when something is not right.
  19. Not anybody local that I’ve met. There have been a couple of new guys I’ve sent to Georgetown for insurance but I have no idea what they have. Edit: I think you’re one of them Nigel
  20. The top centre of the dash where the cup holder is lifts off and the fuse box and relays are under there. There may be two torx screws holding the cover on and they are accessed through the drink holder. Most mechanics don’t seem to put the screws back in once they have been in there so yours may be missing. Most often the bed builder will grab power for the bed lights at the rear of the frame where the factory lamps were. That would be a good place to start looking for a bad connection. Nigel

    How is Nigel Doing

Time for an update. I’m on Vancouver island almost eight months later than planned. I had a balance and mobility test a couple of weeks ago and my result was I compare to an average late thirties person who never had a spinal injury. In January my result was late sixties. Although I feel really good I think the average late thirties person I compare to must be in terrible shape 😊. Hope to meet Roger Dickinson tomorrow, can’t thank him enough for moving my truck and trailer to storage and calling within the hour when we asked for help. Nigel
