  1. Rick Good call on the wheel chocks. When I was in the spinal rehab hospital my roommate had his seventeenth birthday. He had been helping a friend removing a driveshaft and the pickup rolled forward, the differential hit him in the back of the head and folded his head into his chest. He is now a quadriplegic for life. https://www.parrysound.com/community-story/8953841-dakota-reid-thankful-for-parry-sound-s-help-after-paralyzing-accident/ Nigel
  2. The one I heard being told to unload was because the cop that saw it had been reading our forum and had seen threads discussing the car being too long. As far as I know nobody has been measured. But as Rick said there are hundreds of us doing thousands of miles each year so don’t be too concerned. Nigel
  3. I think he bought a truck from Gregg so he is on the south side of the border. Nigel
  4. On the gen 2 when you get the inactive code displayed hold down the enter button for a couple of seconds. If it asks for a PIN number try 0000 unless you know yours is different. Nigel
  5. I don’t know about the front but my rear lights sorted themselves out on their own after a few days or so. Really they flash correctly outside so don’t be in a rush to spend money at the dealer. Nigel

    Braking

Check your brake adjustment. Everyone driving a HDT should no how to do this and should be checking regularly. Commercial drivers are supposed to do it daily and are not allowed to move if they find a brake out of adjustment. Automatic slack adjusters do fail that is why they sell replacements. I’ll get off my soapbox now. Nigel
  7. Brad Check your information display for the rear end temperature readings. Is it showing a reading for one rear end and two dashes for the other? Mine has that message every time I start the truck because the front sensor was removed when singled and no fix was ever done to correct the problem. Maybe your issue is whatever was done to fool the computer to think it is still there. Just a thought Nigel

    Onboard air compressor

A small truck air compressor is going to be around 10 cfm. I believe the Volvo D13 comes with about 30 cfm. Do a search for air brake system checklist or something like that and you will get an idea of what are the minimum numbers. For instance the system must recover from 85 to 100 psi in under two minutes. My truck will do that in under 45 seconds at idle. But if you were to permanently plumb in a large storage tank you could potentially fail an air brake check. Your truck will have no issue supplying enough air for your needs. Nigel

    To get a newer truck?

That makes you two years younger than me. I thought you were much younger. You must have good genes. Nigel

    To get a newer truck?

Okay Rod I have to ask. What do you consider usual retirement age? Up here usual retirement age would be sixty five. Brenda and I met you in Hutch three years ago and we both pegged you as being in your mid forties. Best of luck in whatever you do Nigel

    VNL Hood Repair

Same with the Volvo if the hood struts are good.
  12. I bought a couple off of eBay from China and had them installed last November. I don't think I've put two thousand miles on since because of the Corona virus. But so far no issues. Here is the link from eBay Canada to give you an idea of price. https://www.ebay.ca/itm/333307335391 They were about half of what I could find Doormans for. My recommendation is to change both at the same time as my previous ones went about six months apart. My genuine Volvo replacement EGRs only lasted about six years so if I can get two years out of these I'm ahead parts and labour cost wise. Nigel ps. You may be able to clean and free up your old ones and save them for the next time. I’ve seen a video or two on that.
  13. Love the colour. Maybe down the road you could add a copper vinyl stripe to the edge of your trailer graphics and tie it together. Be careful, lots of us are here to help you spend your money. Nigel
  14. Welcome to the site Happycampper. You sound like someone I spoke with in Spragge Ontario a couple of weeks ago. If so you don’t waste time. hone eagle will be the other member you spoke with the week before. FYI, phoenix2013 above is the original designer and manufacturer of the ET hitch considered by many here to be the best for heavy fifth wheels. Nigel

    Cabin filters

I don’t know if K&N makes one but here is a cross reference chart for the popular makes. My 06 VNL uses Volvo 20435801 for both. I would just put in the paper ones and they will be good for several years in RV service. https://www.donaldson.com/content/dam/donaldson/engine-hydraulics-bulk/literature/north-america/cabin-air/F111543-ENG/Cabin-Air-Filters.pdf Nigel Mid Ontario Volvo has Lubrifiner for about $13 each.
  16. Charlie Could be as simple as radiator fins plugged up with dust and bugs. Have you tried flushing from the fan side to the front with a garden hose? Your truck probably never has enough load to even tax a radiator with restricted airflow. Nigel

    Tire lifter

Roger Did a google search for a wheel torque chart and this is one that came up https://www.jegs.com/images/photos/300/326/326-wheelnuttorquespecs.pdf I have one of the Motomaster electric impact guns and it works well for the seasonal tire changes on our cars and the trailer wheels. I see their best one (Up to 400 foot pounds) is on sale for $99 this week. You need something much heavier for your Volvo wheels but I think you already know that. Covid-19. I think you guys are about a month ahead of us but it is getting pretty good here. Mostly the same protocols as you and most jurisdictions require masks for indoor public spaces. I think we had 102 new cases in the province yesterday. Stay safe my friends Nigel

    Tire lifter

I think $1.00 buys about $1.35 Canadian right now.

    Tire lifter

Roger’s listing was in Canadian dollars so similar money. I’ve seen video of guys using an air wedge to lift a wheel to the studs. I believe the guy was using the tire as the source for the compressed air. Something like this although I’ve never tried it myself. https://www.amazon.ca/Calculated-Industries-1194-Inflatable-Contractor-Grade/dp/B073XL88HP/ref=pd_vtp_469_2/147-5811145-8057133?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B073XL88HP&pd_rd_r=f46374aa-6c40-4043-91c7-f55544a1c1e3&pd_rd_w=grIkg&pd_rd_wg=sxk0y&pf_rd_p=3519613d-4da1-4f36-b949-d4b1168a8022&pf_rd_r=P84G5D00DDBHRD1MYKKG&psc=1&refRID=P84G5D00DDBHRD1MYKKG Nigel
  20. I could swear I saw Jack doing a video about this very topic the other day. I can’t find it now but as suggested contact rvhlifestyles.com and ask them as I know they have done a couple. Nigel
  21. You might ask Chance to call Henry Smyzt and find out what has been done in the past. I haven’t heard of anyone this side of the border buying one since Young’s took over production. You could also email Gregg from rvhaulers.ca and ask him what is involved. When I bought my Trailersaver they had the phone number for a broker to fill out the paperwork and collect the taxes. I think they charged maybe $50 plus the tax and the coordinated with Trailersaver to make sure the shipping company had the proper documentation for crossing the border. Sounds like it is something new for Pop Up but should be simple after they find a broker and do the first one. Nigel

    First HDT

That’s the way I interpreted it.

    First HDT

I’m with Rick love the colour. I see you have the blue plates, I thought we were going back to the white ones. Nigel
  24. I know we are drifting away from topic. If I remember correctly DIYGuy and Henry took apart some Hensley heads welded in some collars where they were worn and fitted longer pins. That have even been the basis of Henry’s head design. Nigel
