RV_
I keep saying the dealers will bring down the manufacturers because they are going the way of the dinosaurs. I don't see the ICE manufacturers and/or their dealers both surviving the transition to electric. Excerpt: "After being unable to avoid a big dealer markup on a Ford Mustang Mach-E, a potential customer escalated the matter. The Ford executive who responded told the potential Ford Mustang Mach-E buyer that it would be easier for them to just buy a Tesla Model 3 (there are no markups and no haggling with Tesla) instead of preordering the Ford Mustang Mach-E. This is according to a report from our friends over on Teslarati. Unfortunately, this isn’t surprising due to the horrible dealership experience that many EV buyers endure when trying to buy an EV from legacy automakers. For example, see this horrible story of someone trying to buy a Ford Mustang Mach-E earlier this year. In this case, the issue was that Redditor “OrderlyMayhem” who really wanted the Mach-E, found that Ford dealerships would not accept pre-orders of the new EV without adding a markup. Naturally, this was something he didn’t want to do. Why pay more than the sticker price? This story brings me back to something I wrote earlier this year about Ford, dealerships, and how they are preventing Ford from competing with Tesla on the EV market: “It’s one thing to have a product that competes with Tesla, it’s another to have the sales experience. And Ford’s old dealership model isn’t helping.” Although Ford is serious about EVs, its approach to selling them is leaving customers frustrated and looking elsewhere. Ford’s dealerships are getting in the way of its own success at selling EVs. When even Ford executives tell customers that they should just go buy a Tesla, you know there’s a problem. Ford is working with the dealership model, which is used to getting what it wants and being the only access point for its customers. That model is now scaring away customers. Previously, the only way you could buy a new car was through a dealership. Today, customers have many other options and aren’t afraid to use them." Mark and Dale Bruss
There are Ford dealers not marking up Mustang Mach-es because I bought mine at list. The issue today is getting one at all because of the chip issue. RV_
Mark while there may still be some dealers that are not marking up over MSRP, the above article includes a link to this Video from July 2 2021: "The Mach-E Buying Experience Is AWFUL! Dealerships are the worst! Everyone knows that and everyone hates dealerships because they are incredibly stressful. The salesman is only your friend so they can make a buck, so essentially it's you against the dealer. Some manufacturers are allowing you to buy vehicles completely online which is such a relief! Other dealers are still making you go into the dealership to "buy" your car even though it can be done completely online. Ford is one of these! Watch now to see how frustrating it still is to buy the Mach-E even though the whole process can be done online. When will we ever stop going to dealerships to buy cars?! Video content: 00:00 Intro 01:10 Availability 05:30 Markups 08:35 You Are The Expert 13:20 Hidden Fees & Maintenance Package 23:35 Ford Options Plan 30:50 Declining the Survey" There are several other videos on this YouTube page with it: It is not about the car although like Tesla there are complaints valid and not. MY point in posting was that the Ford execs are as exasperated as their customers from uncontrollable dealers who are the ones I mean when I say stealerships. I am sure there are some who are honorable within the parameters of their "you and the sales rep against the sales manager" method of sale. and the delays and issues that come up if you object to the absurd back and forth. If some folks want to order direct then fine. But I think they only have five years or so to do that because I believe the dealership monopoly is already extinct. As are fossil fuels which are finite anyway. Mark we are helping as much as investing in the companies to speed up development of alternative energy. I intend to test drive every EV truck and car for sale locally that I can. But it looks like I am getting a Rivian truck and a single story with basement ranch house with a bit longer garage than we have now and put in 50 amp chargers for both.
