agesilaus
We just left the San Antonio area where we stayed at Potters Creek COE for 5 days. Anyway this park in Ft Stockton resembled what I've seen of the Quartzsite area, blasted, bare white rocky sand. But when we got they told us they charge by the month so we can stay for free for a few days..heh. The place is hard to find, south on Hwy 285 until you hit the edge of the built up area and it's on the right. FHU. Not all that much to do in FT Stockton tho, the Fort and a drive up to Ft Davis and the McDonald Observatory.
Bill Joyce
Fort Stockton has a nice museum, the Annie Riggs Memorial Museum, that is worth visiting. whj469
The observatory is worth a few visits if you are there.
agesilaus
We've been to McDonnold observatory before, we were at Ft Davis today but we had the dogs with us and had to skip the observatory again plus it was late.

We've visited that once before, we were going to hang around another day but this place is so desolate that we decided to head up into NM and check out a boondocking spot, or Carlsbad if that doesn't work out. We want to visit Guadeloupe NP. Skipping Carlsbad Caverns since we must have been there 5 or 6 times over the years.
Bill w/bus
NM is great for being. We like Taos, the BLM campgrounds on the Rio Grande about 10 miles south of town. Also the cave dwelling in the Gila National Monument, north of Silver City. If you go there is campground south of the NM with a pretty good hot spring access. Enjoy. agesilaus
Yeah I was thinking about Gila Cliffs, it's been years since we've been there and City of Rocks. We may try to get into the Deming SKP park. Taos is too far north for us this trip.
