Just Don Posted March 12, 2018 Report Share Posted March 12, 2018 Traveling from Port Lavaca TX, Galveston and the Avery island area. Hoping to stay close to the coast on Hwy 82 Hwy 27 then Hwy 14. So any suggestions would be great. In a class B we have stayed on the beach near Holly Beach. Bill w/bus Posted March 12, 2018 Report Share Posted March 12, 2018 Well, you get to ride the ferry at Galveston. A toll bridge to get onto Galveston Island. Bolivar Penninsula is a OK ride. Lots to see and do along the way. Seawolf Park in Galveston - home to a submarine WWII type and a Destroyer Escort for tours. We have been that way a couple of times to avoid the I 10 ride. Where planing to go down Blue HWY no big deal about toll rd, but trying to avoid Houston also. Johns1959 Posted March 13, 2018 Report Share Posted March 13, 2018 If you are going to be in the Avery Island Area, check out Palmetto Island State Park. It is a very nice state park campground near Abbeville, LA and just off US Hwy 82. I have not personally camped there but I did tour it recently after a day trip to Avery Island Jungle Gardens (A must visit place IMO). The roads are fine 2 lane roads, little or no shoulders in LA. We spend a few days at Galveston SP then Sea Rim SP. Palmetto SP in LA is a nice place in Jan, but in spring, summer or fall there can be hordes of mosquitoes. The area around Abbeyville and Lafayette is worth exploring. Lots of great food and history.
