Major tire manufacturers are telling the large fleets to expect a tire shortage. I would imagine these will be 22.5 and 24.5 sizes Other parts may be effected also, we have seen this before, if it gets bad enough trailers will be delivered with 4 tires instead of 8. And keep in mind parts will be supplied to the production side of the business before the aftermarket. An unexpected up turn of new HD truck and trailer orders is the driving force of this shortage. Many trailer manufacturers now will put on imported stuff unless the customer specifies otherwise. You are plugged into parts world in a big way, maybe this just an excuse to justify price increases? Rick & Alana Posted August 5, 2017 Author Report Share Posted August 5, 2017 I think it's going to be like 2008 or 2009. Builds have been flat to down for over a year. So suppliers pulled back production to match build rates. Last month without any warning demand jumped up. Now can or will the suppliers ramp back up to catch up. In 2008 as you probably remember, new trailers were delivered on 4 tires at times It could be an interesting 4 to 6 months.
